I admire this character. For her situation, she handles it with an ease that I couldn’t imagine trying to do. Luckily, strangers around her sense that she is a good person and decide to help her out.

The story starts off strong. A good hook, mystery surrounding Nicole and her past. But there’s a lot of factors that pull the story down. The pace turned the other way after a few chapters and was a little slow going. Because of my curiosity about Nicole, and a plot line that might have involved her, I kept going.

The hero of the book is Connor. Nicole ends up working for his office. I really would have loved to learn more about his character. There isn’t a point of view change, so reading more into Connor wasn’t an option. I liked his back story and the conflict that drove him to be the way he is, but while the story had a mild focus on that, it wasn’t a large factor. The relationship between Connor and Nicole didn’t develop in a normal fashion, it seemed all of a sudden to me. There wasn’t the typical tension leading up to their getting together. I am glad they found each other and that they stuck by one another, so their HEA was definitely deserved.

The premise really had a lot of promise, but it sort of fell flat. There’s some questions that never got answered, and a sub plot that intrigued me, and didn’t go the way I expected. I felt happy for Connor and Nicole, but I’d hoped for a more intense and closure for the ending of the book.

Overall, the suspense was well done. The characters got me interested and had be turning the pages to find out what was next.

There were a few editing errors, however it did not take away from the story.

Not when she spent years in prison for a crime that anyone would cringe over. Yet Joy has this kindness about her. She also has this fear and worry. But this woman is one strong character and she’s had to endure a lot if her life, only to keep getting it piled on. I like Joy. She held promise right from the start, and all I wanted was to know her story, and how she got where she did. Thank goodness for men like Stamos, that believes in second chances.

What can I say about Stamos? He’s one heck of a hero. He runs a ranch, has an adorable son, and he believes in people. Though at first glance at her file, he can’t have Joy on the ranch, but a series of events keep her there, and Stamos gets a glimpse of what Joy is really like. That makes him start to wonder… The one thing about Stamos is that he has a caring heart. He’s very willing to help. There was one spot in the book, however that he has a huge character flaw. There was a scene where he acted too much out of character, completely out of nowhere, and there was no rhyme or reason why, especially when he’d been so understanding and kind throughout the rest of the story.

Still, overall the story flowed well. The chemistry between Joy and Stamos was believable and executed well. The conflicts and tension arise, and it only made their want and need even stronger. The suspense element played out well. There were a few secrets and surprises revealed. It’s a great blend of contemporary and suspense. Ms. Ball has done a great job with this book.

I have eagerly been anticipating the third installment in the Night of the Gryphon series for months. The Prince of Light certainly lived up to my expectations. The action in this story picks up right where the second book, The Warrior Queen ends, so readers wanting to enjoy this book absolutely must read the previous two books in the series first.

The band searching for the Scepter of Hope has been fractured. Taraly and Sancha have broken away from the group for their own reasons. However, they are still working in their own ways to ensure that the side of the light prevails in the final battle. Even though I understood why Sancha and Taraly had to go off on their own for a while, I did miss the interaction between original five members of the quest.

In the second book, The Warrior Queen, a host of minor characters were introduced, all of whom made several attempts to ensure that the positions of hollow king and warrior queen went to the people of their choosing. In this book, even more minor characters appear attempting to do the same thing. As with the second book, I again found all the meddling of these characters to be slightly overwhelming and a bit much at times. I really had to focus in order to remember who everyone was, which side they were on, and what their motives were. This is not an easy task given that many of these characters are adept at concealing their true intentions. Despite this issue, I will say that these minor characters do further the development of the principal characters. I loved watching Taraly, Taigo, Crenshaw, Sancha, and Jalie really come into their own and fulfill their roles at the final battle.

Taraly’s romantic dilemma is interesting. She began to develop feelings for Taigo in the first book, but never truly acted on them. Now, a new suitor is vying for Taraly’s affections. At first I wasn’t sure who Taraly would pick, however, in the end she finally decides to let her heart guide her. I have no doubt that she made the right choice.

Surprisingly, I found the sorceress Ovezara’s romance with Jur to be the most touching. Though she was raised to do the evil bidding of her father, I truly enjoyed watching Ovezara break free of the years of abuse she suffered and open herself to love. I can’t say much without spoiling the ending, but I will say there is a moment between Ovezara and Jur that brought tears to my eyes.

I definitely enjoyed reading The Prince of Light. It completely lives up to what I have come to expect from Ms. Romaney and her Night of the Gryphon series and was certainly worth the wait. I recommend not only The Prince of Light, but also the entire series to fans of romantic fantasy.

Snappy, energy-filled dialogue keeps this story reeling with action and situational descriptions that shove the reader smack into the middle of each scene. Author Linda McMaken must have an enormous sense of humor along with an appreciation for human nature because she infuses her characters with both. Even her secondary characters are unique, realistic, and totally fit the story.

I suggest you wait to read this book when you’re sure to be alone, because I promise, you’re not going to want any interruptions.

I truly enjoyed getting to know Zoe in the first book and reading the second installment was like visiting an old friend. Zoe is still the same spirited girl who dreams of being a detective. With her grandpa opening a detective agency, Zoe is one step closer to making that dream a reality. Zoe knows she’ll have to work hard to build up a reputation, and I admire the fact that she perseveres with her investigation at the blood bank even though she is terrified of blood. She’s one tough cookie. Zoe also takes a few more risks this time around, which I imagine is a necessary step forward in her chosen career. However, there is one time in particular when Zoe took a serious risk that had me shaking my head and racing through the pages wondering what would happen next.

Zoe and Nate’s relationship continues to blossom in this story, but the road they travel has a few bumps. Zoe’s jealousy of Rikki is completely understandable and makes her an even more realistic character. Zoe isn’t afraid to call Nate out when he’s made a mistake, but sometimes she comes off a bit harsh. However, Zoe is also mature enough to realize when she’s being unreasonable. Nate is more than a match for Zoe’s strong personality. He listens to what she has to say, but I like the fact that he stands up for himself as well. The honest communication between Zoe and Nate keeps their relationship free of misunderstandings.

I truly pity Zoe where her parents are concerned. Her father seems like a nice man, but her mother is a snob in the truest sense of the word. Zoe’s mother strongly disapproves of Zoe’s relationship with Nate and makes it clear she doesn’t think Nate is good enough. This leads to a brief, intense, and heartbreaking confrontation between Zoe and her mother. It would be easy for Zoe to simply acquiesce to her mother’s demands, but Zoe is nineteen and more than capable of making her own decisions. Zoe demonstrates amazing strength of character when she stands up to her mother without disrespecting her. She’s certainly a young woman of admirable principles.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading A Case of Fatal Attraction. While this is the second book in the Zoe Mack series, it is a gripping romantic suspense that can stand on its own. I’m definitely looking forward to solving more mysteries with Zoe in the future.

When she calls him for help to get away from Zach, running to her side is the only option. Can Jeremy keep her safe when she willingly goes back to Zach each time? How long will Jeremy stand back before he takes action to protect the woman he loves? Life got in the way the first time for Jeremy and Lexi, and this time Jeremy will do whatever it takes to ensure Lexi lives to come back to him.

For a YA story, this was a great read with a wonderful message at the end. Not only was it a positive story, the plot and characters worked so well together that it felt as if I were in the book watching everything unfold from page one. The relationship between Zach and Lexi is a train wreck; I didn’t want to be there, but I couldn’t look away. The added element of Jeremy made the story that much more enjoyable to read. K. Dawn Byrd is a new to me author and I can honestly say if this is the caliber of her other works then I’ll be a fan for life. If you or another young reader are looking for a good love story with a great morale at the end then this is the story for you.

All Minx wanted to do was introduce her new love to her family. He’s a cop and very good looking, as well as a loving man. So when did solving a murder become a “home for the holidays” tradition?

This is Minx’s fifth case, but it’s the first time I’ve read this author’s work. Ms. Knight does a nice job of creating a cozy mystery that’s a bit unusual. Who expects your next door neighbor to be shot to death? She gives you enough suspects, all with motive, so it’s not obvious right away who the culprit is. The author writes a story that flows well and includes some jealousy because the next door neighbor’s son was once engaged to Minx and Gabe isn’t sure the attraction is completely over. As Gabe works with Minx to solve this murder, the local cop is unhappy because they are messing in his case and he’s acting a bit funny towards Minx, too. Poor Gabe…

The author writes a good drama/trauma story with almost everyone being a bit guilty for some reason. She also gets you into the romance between Minx and Gabe and you find yourself hoping neither one of them will be bullheaded enough to ruin their budding romance. Ms. Knight kept my attention and kept me reading to see just how she would end the story. I was not disappointed.

A small town girl becomes a big-city corporate, woman who slowly forgets her roots and her faith. But when her grandfather dies, Tess revisits her childhood church, and the Lord reawakens the inspiration she once had there. Tess doesn’t want three generations of her family heritage to end so she decides to leave her corporate America world and heads west. What she thinks is temporary turns out to be permanent when she is roped into a relationship with the all too helpful, handsome ranch hand, something she hadn’t bargained for. But he just might be enough to keep her there.

Reclaiming Tess is as warm and inviting as a plate full of delicious, home cooked comfort food.

Tess takes a huge leap of faith when she buys her family’s ranch after her grandfather’s death. While Tess spent her childhood summers on the ranch, she is now a corporate businesswoman who knows very little about running a ranch. I admire her spunk and courage at trying something new and her resolve to keep her family’s heritage intact.

While I liked Tess from the first moment I met her, her character blossoms as the story progresses. At first, Tess has no intention of staying at the ranch long term. She intends to delegate the tasks to capable people and go back to her job in Colorado. I really enjoyed watching the countryside and the animals and people who lived there get under her skin. It was also a pleasure watching Tess reconnect with Christ. Over the years, she’d let go of her faith. After her grandfather’s death, Tess realized she needed to make a change. Surrounded by Christians who lived and breathed their faith, Tess’s old family ranch proved to be the perfect place for her to rejuvenate her faith.

Colt is certainly a country gentleman. He’s a hard worker who genuinely loves the land and animals he works with. I liked the fact that he never made Tess feel out of place on the ranch. He did everything possible to make her feel at home and help her get to know the routine on the ranch. He also served as a guiding light for Tess on her way back to Christ. The chemistry between them is great. It started off as a small spark of attraction and developed into a steady, glowing fire. I have no doubt that they are on their way to a beautiful happy ending.

I do feel that Ms. Shriver only scratched the surface concerning most of the secondary characters. The ranch was inhabited by a diverse group of interesting people from all walks of life and I would have liked to get to know some of them a bit better. Of all the secondary characters, Tess’s grandmother is the most developed. She is a fiery country woman who challenges what most people feel a Christian ought to be. While she is a bit brash at times, she is certainly entertaining.

Ms. Shriver’s portrayal of country life is idyllic. Everything from the land to the food seemed to be better in the country. Even the problems Tess faced on the ranch were presented as “better” than the ones she faced in the city. While I don’t think this presentation is entirely realistic, it did make me want to slip into the pages of the book and visit Tess on her ranch.

Overall, I enjoyed reading Reclaiming Tess. It is an endearing romance with a beautiful Christian message about love and second chances. I recommend it to anyone looking for an inspirational tale that will leave them feeling warm and cozy.

A spunky spinster helps rescue a boy, his pigs, and his family from corrupt officials and thieves.

Grace Gary, a young widow, struggles to rear her three children and keep her job. Due to her dirty-dealing boss, she’s given 90 days to pay off her mortgage or lose her house. If her son’s (Paul’s) pigs win the local and then the state fair, they’ll make enough money to save their home. But the pigs keep escaping, eating the neighbor’s chickens and galloping to Mimi Witherspoon’s farm at the edge of town. Police tell Grace to get rid of them. Mimi, known for her Good Works, comes to the rescue, offering to let Paul keep the pigs at her farm. Her nephew, Tim, helps Paul move the pigs and falls in love with Grace. Then the pigs are pignapped. Tim and Paul find the pigs and catch the thieves.

If there is one message you should take away from reading this book it would be this:  Never raise pigs…

Ms. Bullock writes a delightfully heartwarming story of a woman who has lost her husband to cancer and is trying to survive with a mortgage and three children. Grace has no interest in men; she’s too busy trying to keep her head above water.

The author pulls no punches in her story. Grace is the victim of sexual harassment, the bank tries to foreclose on her home for non-payment (despite having extended the mortgage and giving her time to catch up), and her financial situation looks bleak. Grace is good woman with a young man at home who wants to protect her and help with their financial situation. When Paul has a chance to win the pig championship at show, it could result in a financial windfall for them. But someone doesn’t want them to succeed.

This is really a funny story filled with odd characters. It’s so off the wall, it makes it believable. You want to think things like this can’t happen, but there are good and bad people in the world in general and quite a few are in someone else’s pocket. This author’s tale flows well, makes you care about all the “good” characters, even the weird old lady that donates money to good causes and her adopted grandson, Tim. You even start to worry about the pigs as the story goes on.

Christianity is a theme in this story, but it doesn’t overwhelm the story. Ms. Bullock has written a fast moving story with lots of action and antics that will make you laugh out loud. The pigs themselves are a big part of this story and you will want to read about Percy and Priscilla’s shenanigans. Why not get yourself a copy and settle into a comfortable chair and see how long it takes until you find yourself snickering?
