Kara had always had a thing for Derek while she was growing up, Derek has also always had a thing for Kara, but unfortunately she was off limits to him, thanks to his best mate, her brother, Keith. Derek knows this for sure and has suffered a couple of broken noses when he’s dipped his toe in the I-like-your-sister pond in the past, courtesy of Keith.

But times have changed, Keith has lost his life in service and Derek has been discharged from the marines. Kara, despite her grief, is certainly no little girl lost anymore and she’s all grown up, independent and the sort of woman who knows what she wants and goes right out there and gets it, and I mean she goes and grabs it by the balls. Go girl!

Which is how she finds herself on a One Night Stand date (where couples have agreed to no-strings sex with a stranger) and sitting opposite the only man she’s ever truly loved, Derek.

Derek is equally shocked to be sitting opposite Kara and once they’ve both overcome the fact that they’d separately gone hunting for a night of wild passion they start to assess their situation – well he spends quite a lot of time assessing her curves in her sexy dress, but I guess marines will be marines!

In true Ms Long style the dialogue is snappy, keeps you turning the pages, and the characters are sassy, likable and sexy. I enjoyed the fast pace this story skipped along at and it certainly perked up my coffee break. If you like a short story that you know is a ‘sure thing’ then Marine with Benefits ticks all the boxes of steamy sex, easy-to-read style and a nice warm glow of satisfaction when you get to the last page. I will continue to hunt out more in this series.

Brogan Byrne can be rude, obnoxious, and in general a major prick but he can’t be hated. I tried. The very beginning of the book depicts him as a drug addict sex fiend who can’t appreciate what’s been given to him, but as the story progress, his layers are pulled back and a broken man is exposed. His issues all stem from a horrible path that left me shocked and heartbroken and gave me the ability to understand his pain much better.

But Brogan is not only pain and suffering, he has personality. He has a physique to die for and a voice that could melt anyone’s heart. Mrs. Gerrard does a splendid job at describing this charisma and I felt as if it literary jumped off the pages.

It is, I believe, almost impossible not to fall for Brogan Bryne. Carly, the heroine, did a great job at trying. She had reasons that also hinted at a dark past filled pain, for not getting involved. However, her tough, work-centered attitude was no match against the desire and emotion surging between her and Brogan. Still, watching her fight, attempt to stay afloat, fall a little and then get up and fight some more, was wonderful.

Though he’s only a secondary character, I have to mention Glo. I enjoyed reading about him and the help he always was for both Brogan and Carly.

Mrs. Gerrard not only depicts vivid sexual scenes between the characters, but also romantic, heartfelt scenes. At times the sexual tension between Brogan and Carly was palpable but so was the need, that something special that made their relationship a lot more important than just a simple conquest.

Heart of Rock is a very enjoyable novella, with characters that feel real, sizzling passion, tender emotions and the best kind of music. A definite must read!

In less a paragraph I felt as if I had tumbled into Sera’s blurry mind. Her initial confusion spurred me to formulate a half dozen theories about what might have happened to her, and even after I was fairly certain that I’d figured out her mystery I couldn’t peel my eyes away from the page as she discovers it for herself. Ms. Ison’s descriptions of the dilapidated, freezing cold barn Sera has lived in for as long as she can remember were so vivid I had to bury my toes under the comforter as I kept reading.

It was little too easy to predict what had actually happened to Sera, but this is a minor criticism of an otherwise unforgettable tale. It would have been extremely difficult to change this without deleting the most achingly beautiful scenes in the plot. The author made the right decision in providing these clues because the passages they were embedded in played in major role in what earned this book such a high rating.

I was surprised, though, by how Sera reacts once she begins to find answers to her questions. Her response adds depth to her character and it helped me empathize with her conflicting emotions even more than I did earlier on in her journey. Some of these experiences prompted the 14+ rating as they may prove to be slightly too intense for younger readers.

Remember Me is a wild ride. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys stories that effortlessly swirl several different genres together into a well-written, imaginative adventure.

The author gives clues to what happened between them, but I think the whole story would have added a bit more interest for me as well as sympathy. This is especially true because at times I found Marie holding her emotions at bay a bit too much. A better understanding of her past would have helped me understand why she seemed to need such control in her life.

The sex play in this story was plentiful and exciting. I found both Marie and Jonathan’s ability to accept one another truly displayed in the bedroom. Especially for Jonathan and his ability to take whatever Marie can dish out, no matter if she is in control in the bed or if it were he himself. I found either situation endearing and erotic. These scenes truly made the story, and made me want to know what would be utilized in the bedroom next. So anyone who is looking for an erotic tale with a variety of sex play will enjoy this story.

These feelings are what causes him to be somewhat jaded since it seems like Santa only has time to give to little boys and girls, but not have time to pursue other interests.

While this novella may seem all fun and games, it actually had a serious note to it that I found refreshing. It made me actually sit back and think for a moment what type of sign are we sending kids when all they do is ask for gifts from Santa with no regard to what he may want, or if he even needs a break from all of the chaos of the holidays. I was surprised that the author was able to incorporate this side of the holiday that I think many tend to ignore. So while this is not a family book by any means, it may lead its readers to think about their family the way it did for me.

This was a truly entertaining tale that I will refer to whenever I need a bit of holiday spirit or some ho ho ho.

Client or not, his thoughts have frequently taken him to Veronica’s bedroom for business that has nothing to do with remodeling.

Taryn Kincaid has done it once again. Thunder grabbed my attention right from the start. When she was an author new to me, I was pleasantly surprised with Ms. Kincaid’s other book in this series, Lightning, and am equally pleased with Thunder as well. While either can be read alone, it was nice to have a little background and character introduction in the first book. I knew exactly who Sean was talking to when his brother called. As Sean raced to Veronica’s, I felt like I was in the seat next to him in his convertible, feeling the wind rip through my hair as the growing storm threatened to drench us both. This is a very faced-paced and exciting book. The attraction between Sean and Veronica is powerful and enchanting. When the two of them finally let down their guard and give in to their emotions, their coming together is as wild and exciting as the thunder roaring outside. While their “date” started out as a manipulated match through the 1Night Stand company, the spark between Sean and Veronica had been festering for quite some time. They just needed a little nudge in the right direction. After that, there was no turning back. Unlike a lot of “quickie” books, I think there’s a definite future for Sean and Veronica, the rest was just pure fun.

If you’re looking for a fast read that will get your heart racing and add a bit of excitement to you day, then grab a copy of Taryn Kincaid’s Thunder. The characters and their situation are interesting and entertaining. It was a fun, quick read, well worth my time.

Rex is a backcountry ranger who spends weeks at a time away from home. Because of his job, and close friendship to his friend Paul, a firefighter who also spends a good deal of time out of the house, the two share a condo, figuring neither needed anything more. They had been friends for years, sharing many things – including double dates. But lately, Rex’s feelings for his old friend have become more. He has a crush on Paul, and contacts Madame Eve to set up his dream date. Unbeknownst to Rex, Paul shares this hidden desire, and also signs up for a 1Night Stand.

I enjoyed reading the tale of how Rex and Paul, who we met previously in Two Men and a Virgin, originally became romantic. Neither having participating in a gay relationship prior, it was interesting to watch them figure out the mechanics of it. I think there are normal questions people have – how does it work? What do we do? The author does a good job of handling a delicate subject with tenderness and understanding, and even a bit of humor.

The only negative I’d really have is there is not much written to distinguish the two characters from each other, so it is difficult to tell them apart. In a typical male/female story, pronouns are easy and there’s no confusion. In male/male stories, it’s helpful to have a way to determine who’s who without much thinking. Mannerisms, dialogue, etc. can help differentiate each character, but in this story, both men are very similar. That helps with the friendship and attraction, but made me think a bit more while reading, to keep them apart.

The book ends abruptly, and I would have enjoyed a conversation between Rex and Paul as resolution, but both seemed to be on the same page. The love the two felt for each other came through, and this was ultimately a tale of discovery and exploration. If you’re looking for a story of first time gay love, this may be one to look into.
