The trouble with riding off into the sunset is that it very quickly goes dark.

In this, the second and final part of ‘The Written World’, Myrah and her only-sometimes-intrepid friends discover that averting wars, surviving demonic encounters and evading the clutches of determinedly genocidal relatives is no guarantee of a simpler, easier life.

There will be fire, there will brimstone and there will be occasional bouts of seasickness.

Nevertheless, if Myrah, Nev and the mighty Alaethar are ever to uncover the truth about their worryingly obscured histories, then they must press on and find their way to the remote and suitably mysterious Diegesis Gate. But seeking the truth can be a dangerous business; in a world of fantasy, there is only one Ultimate Truth and discovering it can spell the end of everything.

If you love books that are exciting, funny, and make you think, then this is the book for you. Myrah, Nev, and Alaethar try to uncover the truth about their various histories, which requires them to find the Diegesis Gate. But in the end, discovering the truth might lead to the end of their world. Still, Myrah wants to know and in a discussion with her friends about their mysterious past histories, she says, “But what if it went further than that? Not just this history but every history? What if none of it was real?” Nev, the augur, answers, “Oh, well then there are only thoughts,” put in Nev, who clearly felt as though he was on home territory with this one. “That’s all you can really know to be real.”

Alaethar is the mighty warrior with little bent for philosophy, so Nev always confuses him and Myrah frequently does as well. But they are his friends and he learns to trust them even when what they’re saying makes no sense to him at all.

And so the three friends journey onwards, finding notes and clues from their past histories, meeting lady pirates and murderous barbarians. Obstacle after obstacles come their way, but they keep going, certain that eventually they will find the ultimate truth.

The Endless Land is the sequel to Unreliable Histories, and while it can be read as a stand-alone, I personally think it is better to start with the first book. After all, who would want to miss a moment of this series. Many questions will be answered and many more left unanswered. If you have ever wondered what happened to your favorite characters after the book is finished, well, then, you’ll definitely want to join Myrah, Nev, and Alaethar as they work to discover the answer to that very question.

Fantasy lovers who enjoy philosophical mind games as well as great characters with many adventures and a healthy dash of humor are sure to fine The Endless Land to be completely delightful.

Actress Isobel Spice and her best friend Delphi Kramer are thrilled to finally have an opportunity to perform together, even if it’s just a cheesy interactive murder mystery at a judge’s lifetime achievement dinner. But when Isobel’s dramatic death scene is upstaged by a real murder and Delphi is left holding the still-smoking gun, Isobel drops the role of victim and assumes the role of detective. With the help of her precocious brother Percival and her reluctant temp agent James Cooke, Isobel peels back layers of deception to reveal a shocking abuse of power—and no shortage of suspects eager to deliver justice to a man who denied it to so many.

Isobel Spice wants to be a full-time actress and in the meantime between various acting gigs, she works as a temporary assistant to a lawyer. She has an insatiable curiosity which knows no bounds, frequently landing her in trouble. She becomes embroiled in her current case while she is performing in an interactive dinner theater. Isobel is supposed to be the victim, dying with melodramatic intensity, complete with fake blood and a foaming mouth, only to be upstaged by a real murder.

The action is fast-paced and there are a plethora of suspects. It seems that everyone wanted to kill the judge, who abused his power especially in the sentencing of juveniles for various offenses. “Some of them can’t even be described with straight faces as offenses. Like the seventh grader who wrote on her desk at school with a Sharpie.” So it is no wonder that he came to a bad end, but who was the actual murderer? The plot has a number of twists and turns, and I was on the edge of my seat right to the end. The final scene, while not entirely believable, was very dramatic and eminently satisfying.

Great attention has been paid to the details within the story. I learned a lot about the acting profession, the legal profession, and juvenile detention. Isobel is a complex character with a variety of friends. She can’t make up her mind about her feelings at times, and she does things without thinking, with the single-minded purpose of solving the crime, without worrying about the propriety of her actions. She comes across as a very real person.

The supporting characters are also well-crafted and ring true. I especially liked her friend, Delphi Kramer, and her brother, Percival, a precocious computer whiz.

Mystery lovers are sure to enjoy helping Isobel solve this crime. Murder is murder, no matter how deserving the victim may be.

Normaud’s enemies are many, and time is against her, but she will do what she must to see the heirs restored to their rightful place. Even if it means surrendering her own life.

The Seeker, after spending twenty years in retirement, takes up her sword and shield once again after the heirs to the throne of Normaud are kidnapped, snatched from their beds in the middle of the night. “The mere thought of children being used as pawns in a political game burned through her veins, igniting a fury once forced into dormancy.” Time is not in her favor as a month has already passed, with no clues to follow.

This is a fast paced novel with plenty of action. The world is portrayed with a lot of detail, so that it is easy to imagine the various locations. The Seeker is strong and utterly ruthless in her search for the heirs. At the same time, she is more than just a warrior, and she knows the price that her ruthlessness will have. I found her to be a very interesting and complex character, and I followed her into the dark reaches of the thieves, as she searches for Adela and her younger brother Lukas.

There are a number of twists and turns in this plot as the Seeker works to discover who took the children, where the children are now, and who is behind the kidnapping. I can’t be any more specific without giving away spoilers, but I was very surprised by several of the twists. The Seeker is helped along the way by some unlikely characters, each with their own agendas, but she’ll take whatever help she is offered.

Fantasy lovers will certainly enjoy this world with all of its intrigue and mystery. Will the heirs be found before Normaud descends into political chaos? Not if the Seeker has her way, but will she be in time? I hope that there will be more novels from this world, and I look forward to further adventures with The Seeker.

It’s business as usual until a bitter divorce case turns into a murder investigation, and Jamie’s client becomes the prime suspect. When she can’t untangle truth from lies, Jamie enlists the help of Duke Broussard, her favorite private investigator, to try to clear her client’s name. And she’s hoping that, in his spare time, he can help her find her long-lost father…

Jamie has her hands full with one of her current clients, Becca Solomon, who seems to be having a meltdown in the middle of a very acrimonious divorce. After the judge issues his order that Joe, Becca’s husband, is to have their two girls on Fridays, Becca leaves the courtroom, staring her husband down and saying, “If you try to take my kids away, I swear to God, Joe, I will kill you.” When Joe is found murdered, it is no surprise that Becca is a suspect. Now Jamie really has her hands full.

This novel is definitely plot driven. The reader does learn a lot about Jamie’s past as well as other aspects of her life, but I never felt that there was a lot of depth to her character. She is also scattered between her work, her past, and her social life. Jamie’s mother has died and Jamie still wonders who her father was or is. The loss of her mother understandably increases her desire to learn about her father. That search becomes a sub-plot of this novel. Jamie also meets an old flame and that re-connection becomes the third sub-plot.

The plot itself is rather predictable, and the solution of the mystery left me with a feeling that I’d been cheated. There wasn’t a lot of investigation and the solution was unsatisfactory. The end of the novel feels very rushed as the three sub-plots are brought to quick conclusions. I can’t say a lot more without giving away spoilers, but the solutions seemed very pat and not entirely realistic.

The Case of the Killer Divorce has an excellent premise. Readers who enjoy a cozy mystery where the mystery itself is balanced with other story lines will enjoy following Jamie through the maze of her life as she copes with a disoriented client, a long-lost father, and a possible boyfriend.

Only the deeper she digs, the more questions she turns up.

urrounded by secretive, tight-lipped residents, Addie soon finds herself hip-deep in a mystery as tangled as cypress roots–and directly in the sights of a cool, clever killer who has no compunction about killing again…

Addie Gorsky has moved to Florida to take care of her dying father and also to escape from her own past as a homicide detective. The only job she can land is that of security officer in the gated community of Mystic Cove. She becomes the head of the security force, but she really doesn’t want to deal with a murder. However, when she finds the most despised resident murdered, she gets caught up in trying to find out “whodunit”.

Addie is a very complex character, with many facets to her personality, and I really liked her a lot. Her father describes her well when he says, “I called you ruthless, . . And I stand by that, but you are also compassionate.” She has a great deal to cope with even without the murder, and she handles it all with intelligence and determination.

The plot is very complex and I didn’t have it solved until Addie did. There are a number of interesting characters residing in Mystic Cove and a wealth of secrets. Gossip abounds so it is hard to know where the truth lies, but Addie doesn’t accept easy or obvious answers.

There are several supporting characters who really add to the depth and believability of the story. Addie’s father contributes his experience as a cop as well as his knowledge of what makes Addie tick. He knows when to push and when to listen. The sheriff is antagonistic at first, but he and Addie both develop a respect for the other’s abilities and strengths. While the story is definitely a fast paced exciting mystery, it is much more than that, thanks to the depth of the characters and their interactions.

Mystery lovers are sure to find a hit in Murder in Mystic Cove, and I really hope that Addie has many more cases ahead of her.

Animal Control Officer Gwen Revmore has no use for the gods. They’ve never answered any of her prayers-even after a tragic accident leaves her husband dead, and her young son gravely injured.

But after her estranged grandfather shows up at the hospital to urge her to try one more time to save the boy, Gwen decides there’s nothing left to lose. She asks Nathao, the powerful King of Dreams, for help, and he agrees to save Sam-but like most favors, the help will come at a price.

King Nathao needs to replace an employee killed in an attack on his lands, and he promises to save Gwen’s son if she agrees to take on that very important job of Courier. Gwen will work closely with Nathao’s other staff, including her grandfather, and serve as the King’s public face for his congregations around the world. She will also be his official emissary to other gods.

Gwen soon finds herself caught in a dangerous conflict as Nathao and rival god Bayel struggle for followers and power. In a world where gods are created and shaped by human belief, these beings will stop at nothing to gain more worshippers-regardless of who is caught in the crossfire.

Most of us would do nearly anything to save a loved one. Gwen Revmore is no exception. When a horrific car accident takes the life of her husband and leaves her son, Sam, critically injured, Gwen, who never had any time for the gods, pleads with the god Nathao, the powerful King of Dreams. Timing is everything. Nathao has just suffered the loss of two of his mortal employees at the hands of the rival god Bayel. Nathao grants Gwen’s wish, but in return, she will now serve him as his new Courier, his representative to the other gods and the most powerful of his mortal employees.

The Dream King’s Courier is an engaging fantasy novel with a most interesting philosophical premise. The gods need followers and in turn the gods grant requests. As Lord Veron, the Lord Justiciar of the gods says, “We need the faith of committed followers to feed our strength so we have the power to support their needs and answer their petitions. Of course, that in turn confirms their faith and commitment. It’s the Great Circle.”

I found the characters, especially Gwen, to be fully developed and believable. The gods and the various mortals have their strengths and weaknesses, and Gwen has to learn how to navigate a totally new reality. She tries to stand up to Nathao and tell him what to do and not do with her children, and she quickly learns that it doesn’t pay to contradict a god. At the same time, Nathao respects her and over time, their working relationship develops and changes. In addition, Gwen needs to work with the riders, Nathao’s other mortal employees, and to assert her authority over them in a way that doesn’t also alienate them.

The pacing is excellent, and once I got into the book, I found it very difficult to put down. However, I wasn’t immediately drawn into the story. I found that the first two chapters left me wondering why I was reading it. I continued, because I did have to review the book, and I am ever so glad I did. From the opening of the third chapter I was totally hooked and from then on, I was caught up in the details of the gods’ realm, the intrigue and excitement of the conflict between Nathao and Bayel, and the non-stop action of the plot. The information from the first two chapters is relevant. It just didn’t grab me until I knew why it was relevant.

Readers of fantasy are sure to enjoy The Dream King’s Courier. The story not only has a number of interesting and exciting plot twists, but the setting is fascinating, and there are a plethora of interesting characters who support or try to stop Gwen on her missions as Nathao’s courier. I look forward to reading more of Gwen’s adventures.

If you enjoy tales of epic battles, fearsome dragons and dark, brooding evil, then you’ll almost certainly enjoy the works of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, who, in addition to being very good at that sort of thing, had possibly the most splendid name in the history of the fantasy genre.

On the other hand, if you have a penchant for lovelorn vampires, feisty warriors and unnecessarily cryptic ancient prophesies, then you should have absolutely no difficulty in finding something suitable – albeit not in this particular novel.
This gesture indicates your love towards your sildenafil tablet viagra partner. Impotence or erectile dysfunction is the most embarrassing health issue cialis online http://pamelaannschoolofdance.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/2016-Summer-Schedule-5-16-15.pdf for a man when he feels ashamed in front of his partner. No matter which disorder you talk about you can get it treated find out address buy levitra with no rounds to facilities burning through a large number of dollars on your hospital expenses.
But on the other hand (and this being a work of fantasy, having three hands is not entirely out of the question) if your keenest wish is for a strange and digressive saga about cartography, magic and perhaps just the small matter of changing history itself, then you’ve hit upon a niche in which this book is largely without peer.

What would you do if you discovered that you have a history, one in which you were a participant, but which you now have absolutely no knowledge of? This is what Myrah discovers, and she has an understandably hard time believing it.

Of course, two total strangers informing you that you’ve participated in some great quest carries very little weight in comparison to the certain knowledge that you’ve never done any such thing. However, there was also the fact of her occasional sense-scape departures and the two strange but especially telling encounters with herself—during which even she appeared to be saying much the same thing.”

The Western Reaches is a wild new world where it appears that history can, and in fact is, being re-written. Myrah and her friends get caught up in a dangerous adventure without fully understanding what their mission truly is. Myrah’s uncle sums things up admirably when he said:

“As I understand it, you plan to pursue some enormously ambitious but poorly conceived scheme that will almost certainly entail a long and dangerous expedition across uncharted territories, with little or no idea of what awaits you therein.”

Unreliable Histories is a fantastic adventure, filled with excitement, a healthy dose of humor, and a rich use of words to create a reality. Or is it real? Myrah is a wonderful character, complex, thoughtful, bumbling along at times, but still firmly convinced of her path even when she can’t figure that path out. Her companions, Alaethar, big, friendly, and harmless, but with a surprising ability to protect her, and Nevigorn the Enlightened, a wizard who knows things, sort of, are well-defined and very interesting characters as well. Alaethar has a hard time believing in a past which he can’t remember, in spite of the evidence that he really did have a different past. Nevigorn has no trouble with that, but he focuses on “Here,” saying that “there’s only what’s Here. If you’re not Here, then you’ve gone.” Myrah has to navigate her mission with the aid of her companions, something which isn’t always easy, but which is always exciting and frequently humorous.

Unreliable Histories is the first book of The Written World, a world which I found to be totally captivating. I am eager to return to this world in the second book, The Endless Land, and follow Myrah, Alaethar, and Nevigorn on their further adventures. Unreliable Histories comes to a satisfying end, after a lot of magic and excitement, and it works fine as a stand-alone. However, having entered into Myrah’s adventures, I’m very eager to continue with her.

Lovers of fantasy, especially those who enjoy the study of words and philosophical musings on reality, will love exploring the Western Reaches with Myrah and her friends.

The plot is complex and interesting. I thought I’d figured everything out, but there were twists and turns that I never saw coming. The action heats up quickly and I found that I couldn’t put the book down. There are car chases, threatening phone calls, and gunshots. Jordan has to work all the angles in both Boston and New York, and she does it all most capably.

When she’s called on to save the world—literally—Mirissa finds she has a lot more in her arsenal than just a mean roundhouse kick. Burgeoning powers she previously thought impossible, like controlling the elements and sensory expansion, give her some confidence. But when she is propelled into a world teeming with preternatural beings—all with powers of their own—she finds herself outmatched and outgunned.

CROSSFIRE is a coming of age tale that bridges the gap between the world we think we know, and the one that lies just beneath the surface.

Mirissa Colson has been raised, from the time she was seven, by her father. She has always thought that her mother abandoned them both. But when she reaches eighteen, she learns the real truth, her family’s secret, and that secret reveals an entire world that she never knew existed. She learns about the Greek gods, demi-gods, and preternatural beings, both good and evil. And she learns that she has extraordinary powers meant to help her fulfill a prophecy, that she must save the world.

Crossfire is a thriller, with non-stop action. Mirissa is kidnapped and has to escape. Then she undergoes training and there are mock battles. And there are enough real battles to fill several lifetimes. Each battle is described in complete detail, blow by blow, and I have to admit, I grew tired of all the very detailed descriptions. I know nothing about martial arts, so the dynamics of the fights didn’t really draw me in. I would have liked to have seen more character development, and more details about the relationships Mirissa forms.

Nevertheless, the plot is well-crafted and I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire novel, reading it in one sitting. It is a coming of age story and a dramatic one at that. Mirissa has to absorb a great deal of information in a short amount of time and she ends up having to figure a lot of things out for herself, in the heat of battle. She is fighting not only for her own life, but for the lives of her father and friends as well, and the tension builds all the way through the novel to a heart-stopping conclusion.

I also liked the mythological aspect of this story and I felt that the history of the ancient world was well-researched. Discovering how Artemis and other deities have lived over the years until the present was fun. Discovering how the ancient gods are still operating in our world was intriguing.

Fantasy readers are sure to enjoy this exciting story, and I look forward to the next in this thrilling series.

The quote is followed by a prologue which was intense and provocative, but with no names given, also elusive. After I finished the novel, I went back and re-read the prologue and saw just how effective it is at setting everything up.

Kate Hampton is a New York City psychiatrist and one of the most interesting characters I have met in a long time. She is richly portrayed with her own issues, extremely smart, a bit quirky, but spot on when she evaluates her fellow vacationers. She is good friends with Sunset Villa’s owners and is dismayed by the effect that a very negative review of Sunset Villa has had on her friends’ business. Even though she is on vacation, she wants to help by finding a way to get the reviewer, who has been asked back for a second visit, to retract his earlier vitriolic and scathing review.

The pacing is excellent, beginning slowly and building to a spine-tingling crescendo. I was totally unable to put the book down, once I’d started it. But even more than the suspense, it was the characters that attracted me. There are a number of unusual and interesting characters staying at Sunset Villa, or working there. The setting was well described, with intriguing aspects, such as Sunset Villa’s location next door to Goldeneye, “a property purchased by author Ian Fleming . . .where he dreamt up his famous James Bond character and wrote his novels.”

Lovers of psychological mystery thrillers are sure to get hooked on this one. Kate Hampton is such a complex character that her very presence makes this story something special. Stranger at Sunset may be the author’s first venture into mysteries (she is know for her literary erotica), but I sincerely hope it isn’t her last. I look forward to more mysteries with Kate Hampton.
