It took me awhile to warm up to Lucy. She figures things out, but then the minute she sees Ivan again, she lets her body dictate her actions, even when she wants to do otherwise. But when she discovers a truth that she can’t stomach, she flees, stealing Ivan’s ultimate robot. However, Ivan, anticipating this, just plays with her as if she were a toy.

Lucy travels around the world and there are lengthy detailed descriptions of this harsh dystopian world. I would have liked more action, more plot to this novel. However there is no denying that the picture painted in this novel of an all too possible future is both powerful and devastatingly bleak.

Lucy meets some interesting people along the way and she also runs into a lot of opposition. It seems that most people are happy to shop at IvanMart, the only choice they have. As Ivan explained to Lucy, “This way, we can ensure all products are made ethically and that every American can enjoy a decent standard of living. The characters are very well drawn and interesting. There is the car dealer who decides to place his mother’s beloved Impala on the roof of his car dealership. There is Tammy, the librarian who does research for Jamie in return for meatball subs. Jamie travels by bus and the bus drivers are also very distinct and real. And the further Jamie gets into her research, the more characters she meets, some of whom she could definitely do without.

Mystery lovers who enjoy an action-packed story with great characters set in an interesting location are sure to find Ocean City Lowdown an exciting read.

Victoria is a very strong protagonist with a good heart. She’s well aware of the fact that there are no males in her pack and both that fact and the size of the pack make them all very vulnerable. She has a connection to the Hunters, but at the moment the alliance between the Hunters and the wolves has been broken because the head of the hunters, Jake Barrett, holds the wolves responsible for the death of one of his sons.

As Victoria and Jake try to sort out the truth of the past raids and also fight a horde of vampires, the reality of the situation begins to reveal itself. This novel makes brilliant use of the Norse gods and Norse mythology. The fact that the gods are involved, particularly Loki, adds a real depth to this plot. Both Victoria and Jake know what is prophesied, but will that be more apt to happen if they act? Or if they don’t act? There are tough decisions to be made, but one thing is certain. If the Hunters and wolves can’t re-establish their treaty and learn to work together, everyone will be destroyed.

This is the second novel in the series, but it can stand alone. I have read Hunger Moon, the first novel, and I do recommend reading them in order, but there is plenty of backstory woven into this one, so that new readers will be able to enjoy Battle Cry in all its excitement. The characters are well drawn and the plot is filled with action. It ends at a reasonable stopping point, as the stage is set for the next in the series. I hope the saga continues soon.

Fantasy lovers are in for a real treat when they read Battle Cry.

The plot is intricate and complex. There are a lot of subplots within the story which help build the tensions. Very quickly this novel becomes one that can’t be put down. Dangers lurk around each and every corner, and the suspense becomes intense.

Bay is a sympathetic character. He is an excellent lawyer in the very best sense of the word. He has his own issues from his past, and that has made him a bit of a loner. He used to have more friends at the firm, but gradually, as the character of the lawyers working at Black West & Merriam has changed, he’s become more isolated. He is brave and willing to take chances to uncover the firm’s secrets, but he certainly gets a lot more than he’s bargaining for.

Meg’s character is also well developed and she is determined to do what is right, no matter how much mud gets slung at her. When the action heats up and she is in real danger, she still holds her ground, determined to see Tripp held accountable.

Mystery lovers are sure to enjoy Wrongful Termination. I was hooked from the opening pages and never disappointed.

In addition to the secrets held by the strolling players, there is a rapist, the famous Halcyon rapist, on the loose and Marcus Cornelius Orbilio, the sole member of the aristocracy attached to the Security Police, is upset, not only because of the new rapes, but also because he’d convicted and executed the Halcyon rapist last year. Had he executed the wrong man?

The mysteries abound, from minor to really terrifying ones, and the suspense keeps building. There are a number of really strong supporting characters to add depth to the story, and I found Second Act to be a real page turner.

Mystery fans, especially those who love historical mysteries, are sure to enjoy this wonderful story, the ninth in a series. And I for one plan to search out the first eight as I await what I hope will be the next novels staring Claudia Seferius.

Cory is a very likeable protagonist. She has great investigative skills and she will do anything for her friend. Unfortunately, her skills turn out to be too good and the murderer feels threatened by her investigation. Soon both Cory and Elizabeth are in danger.

The suspense builds slowly at first and then picks up, turning this novel into a real page-turner. There are several action-packed chase scenes, all done without any cars, which had me holding my breath as I read.

In addition to the actual mystery and all the tension that builds around its solution, I was also very impressed by the handling of the tragedies in both young women’s lives. The characters felt very real and I sympathized with both of them. The tragedies were handled with great compassion and empathy.

Without giving away any spoilers, I’ll just say that the solution to the mystery was truly hair-raising and the reader knows the answers long before Cory does, which increased the tension for me, since I could see Cory walking into danger but obviously I had no way to stop her.

False Alibi is a gripping mystery which will not disappoint mystery lovers.

The plot moves quickly from one adventure to the next, and there are many plot twists. The suspense builds page by page, and Elisha has a very hard time trying to decide who to trust, who is telling the truth. Everyone has secrets, but which secrets are important. Elisha is convinced, because of a number of small incidents, that Carmen is still on the island, but she can’t find anyone to confirm that.

Dangerous Paradise is a real page turner, and I found it very hard to put it down. Danger abounds and Elisha is on her own, guided only by her love for her sister. However, I found the conclusion of the novel to be rather a let down. I won’t give any spoilers, but the ending didn’t seem to match the intensity of the rest of the plot.

Mystery lovers who want to take an exciting trip to an island resort will truly enjoy following Elisha’s adventures. She is a strong protagonist and the plot is non-stop excitement.

I liked both characters. They are very different but they are very real people. The plot is complex, with a variety of different characters and events tumbling on top of each other. The story is told from several different points of view. We have Penny, the runaway teen, Stephen, a young man with a good heart, in addition to Billie and Emma. Each of these characters tells their part in the adventures.

The different story lines are brought together rather like a patchwork quilt. It isn’t until the very end that the various parts come into focus, and the conclusion is filled with suspense and drama. I did not figure things out any faster than Billie did, and in fact, I thought that there were just a series of separate stories with a common thread. The reality was very different and totally took me by surprise even though the clues were all there. They just were well hidden among all the events.

Mystery lovers are sure to enjoy watching Billie as she learns on the job, and the dynamics between Billie and Emma add to the tension. I look forward to more adventures with Emma and Billie.

But with a whacky cast of characters hell bent on keeping the peace, no bit of personal information is sacred. They have to find a killer—before Ainsley loses her freedom and her chance to make peace with a fate that scares her more than anything else in life.

Ainsley Moss has returned home after graduation to the small town of Aurora Falls.  Her mother pulls some strings to get her a job at the town’s newspaper as an obituary writer, to replace the one who just died, and a place to live, sharing a home with Gage Sullivan, a guy she’d dumped when they were in school. Coming home isn’t all it’s cracked up to be as Ainsley quickly finds out. Her ex-best friend who now also works at the newspaper attacks her in the ladies room because she doesn’t want Ainsley working at the newspaper. Shortly thereafter, Ainsley finds her dead in a stall in the ladies room and Ainsley is arrested. Now, Ainsley has a real motive to find the actual murderer, while at the same time trying to write two obituaries, for the ex-obituary writer and her ex-best friend.

The town of Aurora Falls is filled with gossip and weird, funky characters. As Ainsley and Gage start gathering information for the obituaries, they also gather clues about the murder, a murder which is quickly followed by a second. As the plot thickens, Ainsley and Gage become more and more tangled in the investigation.

Ainsley is a fun character, who is very scattered. She doesn’t seem to know what she wants, and I’m not at all sure what Gage sees in her. But given the nature of her controlling mother, it’s a wonder Ainsley is able to function at all. I did find a number of characters in the novel to be a bit over-the-top, especially the aunt of the first victim. And the murderer turns out to be someone very unlikely.

Mystery readers in search of some light-hearted fun and a story filled with quirky characters will find all of that in Deadlines, the first in a series. It will be most interesting to see what Ainsley gets up to next.

The characters in this novel are incredibly real. Thankfully, I’ve never been in a situation such as Shorty’s and Booker’s, but I felt as if I were an integral part of it. Jo Sullivan, a reporter, is the third main character, and certainly her personal life is not much easier psychologically than the boys’. She may not be living on the street, but the drama in her family life is more than sufficient to cause her to take up Booker’s cause not only as a distraction from her own problems but also as a way of gaining clarity for herself.

The pacing is excellent. There are surprises around every corner and I tried so hard to help Booker find a way out of his situation. He wants so much to do the right thing, but he is also loyal to Shorty and Irma Cochran, or Mrs. C as the boys call her, who has fostered both of them in the past.

Solving the mystery is complex. Without giving away any spoilers, I found it difficult to sort out a real motive and the crimes turn out to cover a lot of years. But why would anyone want to frame Booker, a young man who is doing everything he can to get out of his homeless situation?

Mystery lovers are certain to find Box of Rain to be a gripping story, not only filled with excitement, but one which deals with some very real current issues.
