I really enjoyed the opening scene to this book! The hero, Jesse walks in on the heroine, Taylor, wearing just her bra and panties and he’s smitten from there on out.

Jesse is a likeable character, and I although I liked Taylor too, when the two come into conflict over the art gallery, I was cheering more for Jesse. The dialogue in this story is natural sounding and I liked the setting too. There’s art, a gallery, bull riding, and of course, the West which I felt Ms. Cahoon did a great job describing.

Although this story is only 98 pages long, it packs a lot of plot. The secondary characters were also well-drawn, and once again for such a short read there are a lot of them but each has his or her own thing to add to the story, and the developing tension between Jesse and Taylor.

Bottom line is although it’s a classic romance plot of two people attracted to one another but in conflict over a common goal, if you’re looking for a quick romance story to read on the deck or by the pool, this might be a good one for you.

Liv Barnett may not like swimming, but she’s ready to dive into her new life when the chance presents itself.

What I loved about Liv was her feisty character. She’s such a wonderful person I instantly found myself rooting for her and wanting for her bad luck to change. When we first meet her, her life is headed nowhere, and she’s not even sure where she wants it to go. But then the wise and friendly Vam makes sure her life is turned upside down when she bequeaths Liv half of Paradise Point marina.

When Adam shows up to see for himself who his co-owner of the Marina is, the chemistry between him and Liv just jumps off the page. Their scenes are so skillfully written that I couldn’t get enough of them, even their initial animosity screams ‘attraction’. The dialogue is witty and natural, the narrative flows nicely, including beautiful descriptions of nature and the marina. The plot is fast-paced and although some of the events at first seem slightly unbelievable, they tie in with the overarching story in the end, making it a well-plotted and intriguing novel.

I love that the protagonists of the story, although single and with no immediate plans to change that fact, are not presented as people who’ve sworn against relationships, but are single simply because life happened that way. It makes their relationship far more believable and sweet. The initial tension between them grows into a hot passion, and the author shows that wonderfully. Their scenes are not too sweet, not awkward or forced, they’re just right. Like Adam and Liv are just right for each other, their characters complementing each other well. Where Liv is determined, energetic and loving, Adam is extremely well-trained in his job but not overbearing or pushy because of it. He knows when he’s lost and he certainly loses when Liv turns on her charm. Not that Liv isn’t feeling lightheaded when Adam comes to her rescue. Several times.

The action and suspense only add to the emotional intensity of the story, making it a fulfilling, well-written experience.

Despite the novel being short, it doesn’t lack anything. If you’re looking for a quick fix of strong emotions, passion and action, this is it. I’ll certainly add this author’s work on my TBR list.

As their upcoming marriage gets closer, Simon gets more desperate, and one of his schemes causes a serious injury to Halwyn. Simon was one of the most odious characters I’ve read about, and for a while, I wondered if he would be defeated. But Halwyn turns out to be true hero material, and he finally realizes that he loves Grace. As for Grace, she has loved Halwyn since she was thirteen. These two made a wonderful couple, who were a perfect match for each other. They had to work very hard for their well deserved happy ever after. I very much enjoyed this well written book, with its very clever title.

While not necessarily “laugh out loud” funny, it consistently kept a smile on my face as I read. And though it might have technically been a story about Cara and Ryan, the secondary characters frequently steal the show. There are half a dozen of them who are just as fully fleshed out as the main ones. I loved Dino (so morose about his wife putting him on a diet … and the scene with him and his friends at the restaurant was a hoot), and Oz and …well, you get the idea.

Despite Ryan’s love ’em and leave ’em reputation, I knew he was a good guy from the start. He does his best to be completely honest (honesty is a big thing with him) and is mystified when women think he’s going to change, because he puts everything right out there from the beginning. And, you know he’s decent because of how he treats the staff of his place, never mind taking Cara in off the street when she faints. It’s no wonder every person he dates wants forever. I would, too.

Cara is a hoot. Voluptuous (and her curves thrill one of the girls at the restaurant who’s starting a lingerie company … Cara is the perfect model), intelligent, a little sassy and so much fun, I really enjoyed watching her slip into a perfect rhythm with the rest of the folks who worked at Ryan’s restaurant.

The writing is solid, descriptions complete without being boring, the characters real, flawed and interesting. I had a few issues with the last couple of chapters and how both characters behaved (don’t worry … it’s a HEA!) that I don’t want to detail because I don’t want to give spoilers, but they’re the only thing that kept this from being a full five stars.

For a thoroughly entertaining read with a satisfying and sigh-worthy happy ending, check out The Meatball Mistress. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

The O’Neill clan’s story gets woven into the plot and creates an undercurrent of unease and a sense of impending treachery. Feoras, the younger O’Neill son, is an antagonist that riles one’s ire to the boiling point. His selfish greed and hunger for power brings grief in abundance.

The character whose attitude and actions make the story sparkle is Elva, Kaireen’s handmaid. She amazes and surprises as the story unfolds.

Andrea Cooper weaves a tantalizing tale of life in a not-too-civilized Ireland. Best of all she weaves in the unique thread of a courtship filled with fun, fury, and fighting that leads to a love that show how true loves are willing to give their lives to protect each other.

I’d love to tell about a druid and predictions coming true, but that would take away the fun of your getting to find out as you read Viking Fire. Good entertainment.

I chose this book for review because it sounded fun. And it was.

Sophie is an unusual heroine. She hides behind a demeanor of in-your-face rebellion with her constantly changing hair color (it’s yellow, it’s pink, it’s blue…) and numerous piercings in an attempt to force everyone to like her just as she is. Thing is, I’m not entirely certain even Sophie knew who the “real” Sophie was. She was just determined to be the polar opposite of everyone else in her family.

This frustration with her family is what causes her dislike of lawyers. She’ll date anyone but a lawyer — she figured that left a pretty big pool of available guys. Of course, the fact that she doesn’t like sex (freezes up,in fact, whenever things get hot and heavy) means that most of her relationships with anyone but a lawyer don’t last very long.

In truth, I struggled to like Sophie. I really, really liked Ryan and just didn’t feel that her reasons for disliking lawyers were strong enough to completely write off the breed. He was remarkably patient and kind to her, putting up with amazing amounts of flip-flopping behavior and occasional verbal abuse all because he felt a spark.

So here is my conundrum: Love the hero, ambiguous about the heroine … right up the last page, actually. There were moments I really could identify with Sophie, those times when she finally just forgot about all the crap that upset her and was truly just herself. Underneath all her angst and irritation there was a really great girl … we just didn’t see it very often. Even after we met her parents, the cause of all her problems, I couldn’t understand why she behaved with such extremes. They didn’t seem that bad.

Still, the romance between Sophie and Ryan was both sweet and smoking hot (Ryan makes a step-by-step plan to get Sophie over her sexual issues … and I’m pretty sure my eReader caught fire during those times) and the secondary cast was pretty awesome, too. The plot was fun, Ryan’s family was seriously amazing (I LOVED his mother to death, and his brother was a hoot) and the romance was mostly believable. I was interested enough to never even feel tempted to stop reading, and I’m rather hoping there will be a sequel with Sophie’s best friend … yes, please?

Don’t read this for the dog, though. She’s present throughout the story, but not really integral to the plot (except for creating the cute meet). Read it for a seriously amazing hero you’ll fall crazy in love with, secondary characters that sometimes steal the show, and a story that will keep you smiling.

She is very clumsy, and she constantly in need either medical help or someone to watch over her. Her flaws, clumsiness and the fact that she is torn (between her old boyfriend, the potential of the new love and the contract that she signed to participate in the show) makes her great and realistic and very, very charming.

Evan, well he is also great. What I especially loved about him is not just the character per se (I found him great) but the situation when “Mr. I’ll never fall in love” was slapped in the face by love. How I enjoyed that. I love the moment when he realized that the love is a much greater thing that anything else in the world and the only thing he can do is to surrender to it.

Other elements that are done really well are the descriptions of the atmosphere and the scenery. The setting of the story is a reality show, but the focus is not so much on what one can see on TV, as it is more on behind the scenes part. The dynamic between the contestants is captured so well I could feel all their emotions (jealousy, envy, sadness, disappointment and closeness). I am grateful to the author for providing me access behind the scenes of reality TV, because she did it so well.

This story has one of the greatest endings I’ve read. I was swept away when I read it.

Falling For You is the first book in the Reality TV Romances series. The second book is already out now and I cannot wait to read it. I highly recommend this one.

With some unique twists to the usual “slayer” plot, Ms. Mathews novel, My Fallen intrigued me from the get-go.

The book has created some fascinating ideas about those who are less than (or perhaps more than) human. For instance, people who are changed to vampires have a period of time during which they may potentially be changed back. It’s short — seventy-two hours — but a great idea (and the basis of this book, actually, as Xavier and Elise wouldn’t have met if not for this).

The author has given a huge set of conflicts, both internal and external, to keep our hero and heroine apart and it was difficult for me to imagine they’d be able to overcome them all.

I admit, I didn’t like Xavier at first. He was exceptionally blunt and crude to Elise when they first met and if I’d been Elise, I’d have most likely smacked the smug look of his face and then slammed the door on any interaction with him. His initial behavior didn’t endear him to me in the least. But don’t worry … he does some growing and changing as the book progresses and eventually becomes someone I could get behind Elise falling for.

I liked Elise right off. She’s smart, strong, loyal and determined. This is why her reaction to Xavier didn’t ring true to me, at least not at first. She had every reason to dislike him intensely, but it takes no time at all before they’re groping each other and getting naked. I admit, I’m a fan of lots of sexual tension build up before things get physical, so this part of the novel frustrated me some. However, the Fallen are apparently very sexual beings, so as I got to know Xavier and Elise better, I could understand it a bit more.

The plot was truly fantastic, though. It’s a complex world the author has built and populated with exceptionally realistic characters. I’d be hard pressed to name the secondary character I liked best, though I am pulling for Drake to have his own book next.

I spent much of the book wondering who was bad, who wasn’t, what information was correct, and so on. We have lots of information to process, plenty of action (in and out of bed) and a storyline that reels the reader in and holds on tight.  Ashlyn Mathews is a new to me author, and I’m so pleased I opted to review this book.  If she continues on as she’s begun, this book series will be stunning.   My Fallen is sure to please any paranormal romance fan, especially those readers who like their books hot!

Romance novel authors are in many ways, pioneers. They are not afraid to tackle delicate issues like relationships in which the woman is older than the man. Beginning Again is definitely not the first romance novel in which the heroine is older than the hero, but for me it was the first one featuring a heroine that is way past her early forties.

Liz Fairchild made two wrong choices in her life about men. First, she married young and before she turned thirty she was widow. After that she married a man who, just before her forty-sixth birthday and after fifteen years of marriage, decides to come out of the closet and her life. What one might expect in this situation is that Liz would be one mean, man hating lady. But no, she is the complete opposite. Aware that she continuously makes mistakes in men, she focuses her energy into an art gallery business. And before the grand opening she meets Collins, who is in his late thirties, a lawyer turn sculptor, and they start an affair.

Both Liz and Collins are great characters. Liz is not a bitter middle aged woman, but instead a very strong and brave lady. Collins is also interesting and although his intentions were not completely honorable at first, at the end he turns out to be a really great guy. This is a short and sweet romance novel and it has one component that I sometimes miss from romance stories and that is the courtship. Liz and Collins are actually going on dates, they are enjoying each other’s company, and in the process they are falling in love. All this was really nicely described. Another great thing that I love in Beginning Again is Liz’s sexual awakening, and the message behind it; that is never too late to have a great sexual life and to enjoy sex.

Unfortunately there are also two things that made me give a lower rating to this story. The first is in the realm of illogicality. Liz was supposed to know who Collins was, but when he walked through the door of her gallery she was clueless. He is a sculptor whose work was scattered in different public locations around the town. While starting an art business it seems really silly that she did not do her homework before opening the gallery. The second is in the realm of responsible adult behavior. Liz and Collins shortly after they meet have unprotected sex. In the era of all different STDs, I prefer characters having protected sex, no matter what.

All in all I really enjoyed Beginning Again, because it was an easy read that made my gray autumn day a little bit less gray.

Max is the man Tensley can’t stop thinking about. And, to be honest, he can’t stop thinking about her. By a chance encounter, this high school couple reunites once again, in a life Tensley never imagined possible.

Throw in a mix of a bad boss, life altering events, and a love that just won’t fade, Careful What You Kiss For is delightful, funny and intriguing. I love the spin on this second chance romance. I rooted for Tensley and Mas, even though I wasn’t completely fond of Tensley in the beginning, she definitely grew on me.

The secondary characters are quirky. Tensley’s best friend, Kate, is in the midst of the trouble, too, and she helps Tensley sort out this mess.

This novel dazzles. If you love a bit of paranormal, second chance stories, and plenty of humor to go around, why not give Careful What you Kiss For a shot?
