I was originally drawn to this series because of the dragons, but I quickly fell in love with the whole world Ms. Kallyn created, and its inhabitants. The characters each have a unique personality and the stories are well crafted and action filled.

Pyrotechnics is Brianna Jones’ specialty, and she has an inside track on the art. A fire nymph, she does the setups for The Grave Diggers, a popular rock band on tour. When things go wrong at the first of three shows in Phoenix, Bree knows she did everything right, and that someone sabotaged her work. She even has the approval of the inspector, Ty Dragos, vouching for her expertise. But something is going on Bree doesn’t understand, and Ty needs to keep his eyes open for trouble. The black mage that has been capturing magical beings and stealing their power has targeted someone in the band. What neither Ty nor Bree realize is that he is after Bree. They also don’t know what to do about the fire growing between them, because neither is looking for a relationship. Can these two accept what is happening between them? Will the black mage be stopped, or will he once again start stealing power from innocents?

Brianna ‘Bree’ Jones is determined to remain self-reliant, wanting no one or nothing to tie her in one place. As soon as I saw that Ms. Knight wrote a Protect and Serve installment, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and I am excited to say that the story is even better than I’d hoped.

The author imbued this book with a gritty and emotionally charged venue to showcase two very unique and gifted characters. It’s hard to believe that such a short story could pack such a powerful romance but Ms. Knight’s excellent command of the written word ensured a stellar reading experience. The descriptions were visually stunning and the action hard core. The dialogue kept pace with the plot and it all came together seamlessly. The story is told in first person point of view through the heroine, Candace Fox.

Agent Fox is a tough cookie. She’s been in the military and has made hard choices. What I discovered is that underneath all that no nonsense commanding presence is a passionate woman who only knows one way to keep the man she loves by her side. And in this story, it’s all about to unravel. That was a heady bit of writing on Ms. Knight’s part and it was thrilling.

The happily ever after includes more of Ms. Knight’s signature writing skills. From the confrontation in the SAC’s office – which caused me to laugh a few times – to the pivotal decisive moment when their future changed until the moment Fox walked the path set down by Feral, all of it was gripping, fascinating and it all added up to one heck of a well told story.

Protect and Serve: Fox and Feral is an exciting and romantic read that wowed me with its tight writing, great character development and a happily ever after that satisfied me on every level. I couldn’t stop reading until I got to the very end because it was that good. I loved the passionate chemistry between Fox and Feral and I wouldn’t mind seeing them again as they embark on a new chapter in their lives. One thing’s for sure, it won’t be boring. This would be much easier for him if his Grandfather would stop trying to bring him back. Ario has spent his entire life being taught honor and tradition, and being told that, as a half breed, he will never be good enough. Even so, Ario’s refusal to come back when ordered by his Grandfather goes against everything his has been taught his entire life. I think Ms. Burk does a wonderful job showing Ario’s conflict in trying to live his own life instead of doing what is expected of him.

Cailte mac Ronan is fae and an Irish warrior who has been sleeping for a couple hundred years, waiting until he is needed again. I love Cailte’s character, he is so very Irish — there is really no other way to describe him. He begins to adapt to his new life and all the changes, perhaps not quickly, but certainly better than I would have if I had been in his place. Ms. Burke had done such a good job at making him into an uncaring and semi-villainous character, when it was revealed that not everything was as it seemed I had a hard time accepting the new aspects of his personality. Although upon reading the book again, I was able to see that while Ario’s Grandfather might be uncaring and even cruel at times, he was not so much evil or villainous, but more the stern patriarch whose duty it was to uphold thousands of years of traditions. I still didn’t like him, but then again I wasn’t meant to.

I have to say that Merrick the pixie was my favorite character in the book. He was feisty with a strong sense of honor and duty. If I was going into a fight I would definitely want Merrick on my side. He’s an understated but very key player in the story, not to mention in the climactic battle at the end. However, I will say the animal attack was a delightful and disturbing parody that seemed to combine Disney-like creatures with the Monty Python’s rabbits. It was brilliantly done.

Author Stephanie Burke combines legends, mythologies, and her own special brand of writing magic to create a riveting tale of honor, duty, and love. Ms. Burke has a talent for combining the absurd with the commonplace, and writing characters that you just can’t help caring about. I cannot wait to find out what “not to date” next.

There are a myriad of words that describe the act of sex and the body parts; some are hard core, others elicit more of a romantic feel. While I still enjoyed the book, I think toning down the language would have made a much better impact.

I have followed Ms. Black’s Wolfman series from the start, simply because I love her writing style and her imagination. Even though we know wolfmen do not exist in our world I still love how the author uses a virus to transform normal men into beast in a post apocalypse world. Blind Passion: A Wolfman Tale is the third book I have read in this series and think the theme is still entertaining and unique.

The male characters, Derek and Jay, were so loveable and you cannot help but laugh when the two wolfmen had to remind themselves that the human female Mei was fragile and that care had to be taken to insure they did not hurt her or tear her clothes. It was a big turn-on to read the scene of the two wolfmen kissing and fooling around with each other as well as with Mei. I did latch on to one sentence while reading and thought that there are many women and men who would agree with the statement. “It might kill me keeping up…but death by orgasm sounded fine by me.”

Ms. Black does an amazing job of introducing new and creative elements to this series, a series that I would recommend to anyone that loves wolfmen and their wild adventures. I was surprised by some of the twists in the story line and fell in love with the characters as the tale unfolded. For a short read, you will find the details and plot well thought out and written. I did enjoy the author’s witty sentences; one that had me laughing was “a starving man at an all-you-can-eat buffet.”

Blind Passion is a stand-alone story that is guaranteed to keep you grinning from ear-to-ear.

Swede, Dane, and Nor are genetically engineered Viking warriors, created in a laboratory to protect the population at large and keep the borders between civilization and the Badlands secure. Amy is a soother working in a bar not far from the border. When the four meet it’s love, it’s lust, it’s fate, with a pinch of meddling Elders, and a whole lot of government conspiracies.

The government genetically engineering “perfect soldiers” is not a new concept, but no matter how many times I’ve seen it in movies or read about it in books I’m always left in awe of the hubris of mankind. Nobody ever thinks that when you create these super strong intelligent warriors that they will be smart enough to figure out when you are lying to them; not the scientist that create the soldiers, or the military that wants to exploit them, or the government that wants to control them.

Now you don’t actually meet any of the scientists or government officials in the story, they are more of a shadow agency lurking in the background. I understand that the threat of their presence is more compelling than their actual presence, the unknown is always scarier than if you can put a face to your enemy. But I think it would have been interesting to meet the men and women who created the soldiers, maybe even have one that acknowledges that what they are doing might not be exactly kosher and try to help the warriors find out the truth.

Like the scientists, the Elders are instrumental to the story even if you don’t meet them until the end. They are the leaders of the rag tag band of survivors that are living in the Badlands; they have knowledge, and wisdom, and most importantly are the ones that sent Swede, Dane, and Nor on their little excursion that led them to meet Amy. The impression is given that like most good Elders, these ones are somber and serious most of the time. However they have lived long enough and seen enough atrocities in life to take joy where they find it and they are not above having a laugh at the expense of the warriors. This includes ninjas, and while Vikings traditionally work in threes the ninjas work alone, but as Swede, Dane, and Nor find out this is not always the case, or perhaps it was just another lie that they had been told. While trying to escape with Amy the warriors come across a pair of ninjas, who actually help them to escape rather than stop and/or kill them. The ninjas don’t just help out of the goodness of their hearts, they have questions and want answers. Although the Vikings tell the ninjas how to get into the Badlands so they can find their answers, you never see the ninjas again. I would have liked to know what happened to them, if they ever made it, or if they were double crossing the Vikings to get access and launch a surprise attack.

Despite the close bond that Swede, Dane, and Nor share as well as the circumstances of their “birth”, they each have a distinct personality. Their personality differences are subtle when dealing with each other, because they have such a strong mental bond, but they become more pronounced when dealing with Amy. Of course due to their genetic makeup the differences in the warriors serve only to enhance their ability to work as a team, not detract from it. Despite their differences the one thing they all agree on completely is the need to keep Amy safe. I think it’s great that at various times each of the men envy one of the others for finding just the right words to explain and comfort Amy as they try to get her to safety. They look on with awe as one of them soothes her fears with a touch and the right words, and then moments later they are doing the same thing themselves. Their bond might have happened quickly but their is no doubting the strength of their love and devotion to each other.

Shara Azods Badland Warriors: Vikings is a page turner full of fun and witty turns of phrase that leave you laughing out loud and wanting more. Just remember “In the Badlands you can scream all you want. No one gives a damn.” And why would you want them to? After all, it would get down right annoying having all that good sex constantly interupted.

The book is told from the Dekker’s first person point of view and Kierra’s first person point of view, alternating between chapters.

I sort of wished that both Kierra’s and Dekker’s characters were a bit more developed than they were but the author gave me enough to enjoy the story and I certainly did have a good time reading this book.

Viking Seduction: Blood Slave is a fascinating look into a seductive and highly addicting world of vampires and their relationships with humans. I enjoyed the world building and I think both Nate and Segrun show true potential for strong characters in future books. Jonndre the Potter is a simple man, but the townspeople turn against him when he is caught being less than prudent with a traveling player visiting the town. Because this is a crime punishable by burning, Jon knows he will meet his death in a rather unsavory manner. But because it is the year of the sacrifice, they decide to dress him as a woman, and let the dragon take him. This is a ritual that has been going on for centuries, and virgins are sacrificed to the dragon to keep the land safe.

Unbeknownst to the town, however, is that Patch, the dragon doesn’t eat the virgins, but actually sends them on to new lives away from the poverty in the village. What happens when Patch discovers a beaten and disguised Jon as his next victim? Can he fight the attraction he feels for the human, and let him go? Or is there more to Jon than meets the eye?

Jon had the misfortune of living in a town that was rigid and unyielding of anything that didn’t fit the norm. He is a simple man, not overly imposing, but handsome and well proportioned. He is alone most of the time, except for the one time every year when the traveling players come to entertain, and Erond can join him for some pleasure. When they are caught, Erond escapes and Jon is left to face the music.

Patch is a dragon shifter, and has lived quietly for centuries, protecting the surrounding lands, and providing better futures for the virgins left for him as tribute. Tall, strong and absolutely delicious, he is stunned when he feels an attraction for on after rescuing him. I liked the way Patch was able to take care of Jon, and eventually convince him he meant him no harm.

There are some surprises in this, especially the one about who betrayed Jon to the town. This is revealed later, and it puts Jon in greater danger than ever, but it also brings Jon and Patch together more than anything else could, and it provides answers to some questions Patch had about Jon.

There is a sweet romance threaded through this, but it is told with Ms Austin’s trademark touch of sizzle and spark. I look forward to more of the Dragon Mates series.

PI Jake Stanley thinks he’s on a routine case when a father asks him to track down an errant daughter. There’s nothing routine about Cirque Caprice, though, or its mysterious owner, Victor. Most traveling shows are all smoke and mirrors, but there’s something about Caprice that makes Jake think he ought to stick around and investigate. Victor thinks Jake ought to join them on the road, too, but for an entirely different, and more pleasurable, reason.

I must say this story wasn’t what I originally expected when I choose to read it. That being said I was very pleased. Despite its length it had well developed characters and a fast paced story line that kept me reading until the very end.

Jake Stanley is a PI investigating a case of a missing woman when he finds something he didn’t know he was looking for, a possible relationship with Victor Grange. Victor is co-owner of Cirque Caprice, and traveling with the circus has lead to Victor living a lonely life. This story had it all mystery, drama, sex and love. A good combination for a short story you can read over your lunch break.
