Salome Jones has been sent on a forced vacation by her overworked staff. Canticus has been exiled because he won’t play nice with the women administrators who oversee the games on his planet. When the two of them end up stuck in the same hotel suite, sparks fly. So do clothes and limbs. Can the two arrive at a solution that will allow them to continue their sexual explorations?

This tale makes no apologies for its exploration of man versus woman and the sheer sexual fun and gleeful exuberance found within.

And what is it with a caveman approach that turns otherwise sophisticated women into frenzied cats in heat? Granted, Ms. Gaines description of Canticus is positively drool-worthy. I mean, a woman has to be half asleep not to appreciate the visual the author paints with her words. And I have no idea why I get the giggles with heroes who used grunted one word possessive speech while at the same time, shiver with great anticipation. The hero did all that to me and more.

Salome is a woman in charge. She’s so over the top that her employees mutinied. There’s no one to rein her in, to make her stop and smell the roses or enjoy the very basics that life has to offer. She’s so driven; I think she forgot how to be a woman. Canticus is going to change all that with style and sexy precision. Erotic readers are going to get a kick out his taming her.

In fact that is what this reminds me of: a sexier version of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. Except I don’t think Mr. Shakespeare ever thought of doing it the way Canticus did. Well, maybe he did, but he certainly couldn’t write about it. I’m so glad I live in the times that I do because I’d be missing out on a lot of fun.

Some readers might be put off by how fast Salome lets Canticus do his manly thing but keep in mind, this is a short story and things have to move fast. This is a great little tale for readers who need a quick fix of passion and unbridled satisfaction without a lot of emotional angst and baggage to drag it down.

So that it’s not too fluffy a read, the author does have both Canticus and Salome both learning a lesson and finding what they need from and in the other. The hero and heroine both get their ways in a mutual and satisfactory arrangement.

Mirror, Mirror: Gladiator is so cute and magical. It’s lighthearted, positive and exactly what I was in the mood for. Sometimes, all I want to do is kick back and just read just for the sake of entertainment and pleasure. This book delivered exactly what I wanted, like a pinch of sugar mixed with chili peppers – sweet and hot all at the same time.

Adam Calder’s act of courage and selflessness has saved him from the forever darkness, but he’s a Nightwing, a human with black wings, trapped in a dark, starry place called the Void.

He has one window to Earth, a view through the mirror of an elevator car, and one chance to leave the Void and find the Light.

Eva Evans was saved by a stranger, a winged man she now sees in her dreams. While on vacation in Fiji, Eva steps into an elevator and sees her savior, the sexy man of her dreams. Is he a dream or is he real?

For a short story, this tale is imbued with real emotion and a wonderful romantic hook that has this reader sighing in happiness.

I’ve read a few books in the Mirror, Mirror series but none of them are as precious as this one. The others I’ve read before have a lot of sex in them but this one has the benefit of touching the heart and mind in addition to a wonderful celebration of physical love.

The best thing about Nightwing is the hero’s redemption. Adam is more of an anti-hero; he’s a man who followed a life of crime due to circumstance. Had things been different for him when growing up, would he have turned out to be a better man? Maybe. Will the power of love reach the darkness inside? Pretty heavy questions for any book to tackle and yet, this one does with surprising effect.

Eva is the kind of woman who fits the phrase, ‘behind every great man, is a great woman’. She has that elusive something that reaches the darkness inside Adam and gives him hope and a reason to live. Of course, ‘living’ is a bit of a misnomer in this book. I enjoyed Eva’s approach to life and love. She follows her heart and it’s beautiful.

I liked how Ms. McCall set up the story, and how it progressed. The editing was even perfect. The book has as its base, a very noble and romantic theme spiced up with some erotic dreams and a sensual and blissful reality for both Evan and Adam. I enjoyed the dialogue, the way Purces provided needed information without it being an information dump, and the idea that the good things we do in life really do have value beyond what we realize.

Mirror, Mirror: Nightwing is a quality tale with a hero and heroine I heartily cheered for. It’s sweet yet hot with a wonderful message of second chances and redemption. I give a Teddy Bear hug to this story because it made me feel all warm and fuzzy after I was done. The ending is more a hopefully ever after but I got the distinct impression, based on a feather, that I can be assured Adam and Eva are going to be just fine. Hear me sigh.

From the author: Welcome to my mind. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to share a bed with two demons who don’t much like each other? Do you ever wonder if the nice lady at the orchid nursery has a second identity as Avenger of the Non-Orgasmic? If a man had a cat door in his house, would you expect a fairy to sneak in through it to check him out? Could a little green man be really good in bed? And what if you had two drop-dead gorgeous twins competing to mate with you? I think of these sorts of things all the time. Enjoy the madness…

The Demons R Us collection includes the previously published titles Demons R Us, Eria’s Ménage, Fairy in my Bed, Sexation, and The Adventures of Wonderslut. Please note that not all genres and themes apply to the entire collection.

An anthology of Supernatural Proportions Demons R Us takes you through five different stories that offer a tantalizing change from the everyday world.

Demons R Us introduces you to two amazing demons and one pissed off woman, mix in a little revenge and you have the perfect recipe for a hot and spicy romance.

Next, meet an alien queen who’s in the market for two hot studs to give her an heir. She plans on a quick no strings attached relationship but the guys have other ideas.

Then, meet a fairy that is caught by a human who gets three wishes for catching her. The result will surprise you.

The second to last story is about an alien who comes to earth on vacation and helps to reignite the flames of a dying marriage.

Finally, meet Wonderslut, a superhero who goes out every night to save marriages and relationships only to come home to an empty bed until she finds out that what she is looking for might be closer than she thinks.

One of the things that makes an anthology work is all the stories need to work together. While the stories in this book are short, some too short, they all seem to work together. The character development is good in each of the stories. The plots were well thought out and several of them would have made excellent starts to series or to larger book. It was well done that these plots were presented in their entirety despite the room for expansion. The book was well edited.

This book is definitely one I’d consider recommending to friends and a book I’d buy, but perhaps not one I’d keep on my shelf. The stories are quick reads making it perfect for a book to take along with you to the doctor’s office or other appointment.

The stories are hot and I both laughed and got teary eyed. A good read.

Deer shifter Jason Fleetfoot has turned his life around. After years of taking chances, he’s got a job as a crime lab technician, and he’s determined to forgo the risky behavior of his past.

Then he meets Drew Danvers, the only undead detective in the city. Jason hates vampires, or does he? Drew defies all the stereotypes of his kind and something about him has taken hold of Jason and won’t let go.

Will Jason take a chance on a man others would label a risk to his health if not his very life?

This book was so much fun for me on a couple of levels. Imagine a buck and a vampire falling in love at one of the worst possible times resulting in the best of everything. Very romantic.

One of the reasons I jumped on this title when it became available was because it was about Jason. I’d met him in a previous installment of Protect and Serve when his sister, Natalie needed saving. Well, so did Jason, and this is his story after the fact. This adorable little gem stands alone just fine but since I’d read the previous book, I knew more about just how dire his situation had been and in this installment, just how far he’d come. I was so happy to find out he’d get his happy ever after but never imagined who it’d be with.

Jason knew he messed up before so he’s doing his darndest to make his sister proud and recoup some of his lost pride. I think the job the author matched him up with was perfect. I knew he was loyal and dedicated as well as a braniac. What I did not know was his aversion to vampires. How ironic that the one man who makes his blood sing and his dreams burn his inner eyelids from imagined passion would turn out to be a vampire. And yet, I really respected Jason because he didn’t cast generic aspersions or run around with a phobia so encompassing that he’d stake an innocent man, although a dead one. He remained professional and calm. That is until one of the bad guys threw a curve ball and presented Jason with a slight dilemma. That was yummy, in a twisted sort of way.

Drew is part of that dilemma. But he’s also Jason’s personal thorn and eventual salvation. Drew is more the tortured hero in this book. Once I found out about his background I felt a lot of emotion for him. I would have liked to have explored him a bit more because a man who can rise above the horror foisted upon him has to have an incredible inner core of steel and integrity. As it is, the author only allowed me a glimpse of his depths. The bane of a short story is the length of the tale.

Both men are strong and took turns telling their side in each chapter as first person point of view. At first, I was all excited about Jason, but Drew quickly engaged my interest. I credit that to being able to see into his head, by getting to see the taffy pull battering his emotions inside throughout the story. Sure, Jason has his share but it’s not the searing pain that Drew has to deal with. It was a great hook.

The dialogue is brisk and informative, the editing clean and the characters fun. The only drawback for me was the brevity of information. I could have used a bit more background on Drew, a bit more meat between scene changes and believe it or not, more loving words between Drew and Jason. Their bodies talked the loudest and the author certainly wrote scenes that pleased my fast beating little heart. I just wanted a tiny bit more emotional connection because then I truly would have been assured that Jason and Drew would be together, forever. Maybe Ms. Violet could have them get married? Ooh, I’d buy that book.

Protect and Serve: Sex on the Hoof is a delightful and cheeky romance between to unlikely men who end up happier than they thought possible. There was fun exploration and heartfelt skin on skin to appeal to erotic readers. To engage the senses for readers who need a bit of meat to their short stories, there’s a bit of action when Drew tried to chase down a bad guy. For me, the best is the closure that both brother and sister are safe, loved and have a bright and terrific future ahead of them. I’d love to visit with the deer shifters again; they were so cool!

As a cat shifter and a vampire, Emerald and Armand fit together perfectly; their appetites and needs are well-matched. When they see the lonely looking man watching them from the apartment across the way, they can’t help but show off for him, making love in as many delicious and kinky ways as they can to keep him intrigued.

Harry’s been a little down and a lot lonely since Naomi left him. Maybe that’s why he’s been uncharacteristically watching the couple in the apartment across the way as they make love in their window. They’re fascinating to him, and obviously aware that he’s watching. Will he pick up the phone when the beautiful woman across the way writes her number on the glass?

Nonstop sizzle is the only way to describe Storm in the City. From the opening scene to the very last word the reader is swept up in the erotic antics of Emerald and Armand as they tease and taunt their voyeur neighbor Harry. To add spice to the scene, Emerald, a cat shifter, and Armand, a vampire, decide to invite their new friend over to play. When Harry joins the game, the heat level goes up exponentially as he experiences being with a man for the first time. This new experience sends him over the edge and begging for more from the sexy duo, which they are more than happy to provide.

The combination of innocent exploration and the ultimate threesome makes for a mouthwatering read. There were very few editing hiccups but the characters were so sexy that the reader can’t wait to find a twosome like this of their own. This story is the perfect length, any longer and it would be complete sensory overload for the reader.

White hot from beginning to end describes this short story. There is very little that can be improved upon when it comes to Storm in the City. Perfect character development, perfect tempo, and imaginative sex scenes overshadow the lack of real plot. Considering all of the story’s other attributes this one snag is easily overlooked. This is one of the summer’s naughty reads and I can’t wait to encounter this author again.

After years of besting opponents in business, Jared Scott decides he wants a more powerful competitor. A creature with the strength and speed of a wolf and the cleverness of a human being fits the bill. He contracts with WishLabz to help him hunt a werewolf.

Jared’s consultant at WishLabz, a werewolf named Amanda, has a history with hunters that goes back to when some men killed her parents. She doesn’t like them, and so she doesn’t like Jared much, either. She plans a surprise for Jared — but it turns around and bites her, too.

Watch the fur fly as a lonely wolf-woman and a cynical and bored human man collide in a clash of beliefs, strong wills and misplaced revenge.

This is actually a pretty cool story. I liked the heroine Amanda’s mystical baby sitter and foster father. It was a nice touch because it imbued this tale with caring, love and tenderness. Despite her tragic start in life, she’s survived and thrived – well financially and in life skills. Her heart is a different matter. She has that walled up behind an impressive fortress and she has no intention of anyone ever making her that vulnerable again. Which a reader knows is the perfect type of person to be set up for a fall, and fall she does, much to my reading pleasure.

Jared has tackled every challenge in his life and conquered. He’s great at materialistic goals and considers himself a connoisseur of pleasing the ladies and leaving them satisfied while he continues onto the next agenda. It’s a pretty shallow life and he really didn’t realize anything was missing, nothing important anyway, until he met the heroine. I found it humorous at how he thought another orchestrated challenge could sate his restlessness. It never dawns on him that it’s his heart that has needs, not his brain.

Amanda’s objective isn’t as clear to her as it is to her pixie-cat secretary, whom I adored. What a terrific and fun secondary character. The heroine is purposely blinded to what her actions truthfully mean because it’s colored by her needs – of revenge, of not feeling helpless like she was all those years ago. For some reason, she fixated on Jared and I got the impression it’s because deep down, where there’s a crack in her defenses, she realizes he’s the man strong enough to save her from herself.

I admit that Amanda was a bit too blood thirsty for my personal tastes but it worked for the story. What I mean by that is that what she does to Jared she did it a little too enthusiastically and I got that impression from the author’s word choice during the scene.

One thing I guess I should mention is the parts where Jared and Amanda express furry wolf lust with gusto. If a reader isn’t comfortable with imagining haunches and paws, then they need to be aware that it’s in here. The human mind is present but it’s … distracted a bit by their powerful mating bond. The love is clear and the words are expressed so for me, I had no problems. I actually liked the fact that they both never lost sight of their feelings, no matter what form they were in.

The epilogue wrapped up everything in a passionate and optimistic tone that satisfied the romantic in me. It was sweet and true to their healed relationship. Did I mention what Jared had to do to get Amanda to open up to him? Oh, that was a good part. A reader is going to have to take a chance on reading this book to find out. It sure made me appreciate his character even more.

Bad Medicine: Moon Bitten is a nice twist on the werewolf tale with more than your average emotional hook to connect a reader to the story. I was entertained and fascinated at some of the creative and unique paths Ms. Gaines set up for her characters despite its short length. I found the tale exciting and couldn’t put it down. Now I have to wonder, just what is Gloria’s background story? I can’t think of a more distinctive secondary character that deserves her own account as this gal. How in the world did Ms. Gaines come up with her? I’m captivated.

Zader Montana is Sovereign Kind, a mountain lion infected with vampyre blood. He refuses to embrace his undead half, the part of him that prowls the night looking for the she-wolf he desires. His problem — she’s mated to the alpha of the wolf pack sharing his mountaintop.

Skye wants a taste of the cat who trails her every night. Convincing her mate to let her have a bite won’t be a big deal. The wolves are infected with the blood curse too, and they’re not finicky. Skye’s willing to be shared by both leaders as long as she gets what she wants.

The book has a pretty intense relationship dynamic that was great to see unravel as the main characters discover what they’re willing to accept in the name of love while forging a new connections and bonds.

I believe this book is part of a series and yet I had a fun time reading it and didn’t feel all that lost. I credit that to the author using her characters to explain the rules of their world at the same time they are butting heads against it. The only thing that made me scratch my head is the differences between the Reign and the Sovereign Kind and the plain old Kind, and what the big deal was. I didn’t dwell on that too much because although the characters mention it in passing, the focus really is on the exploding relationship between Skye and Zader.

Skye has been in love with her wolf mate for a long time. Leaf is an alpha and he loves her back. The interesting thing is, as much as she loves him, the heroine shares with a reader that something isn’t quite perfect about their relationship. She has no clue as to what that is. And for the life of me, I never would have suspected or imagined the truth. Zader sure stirs not only Skye’s passions, but the plot conflict too.

Speaking of conflicts, there are quite a few to choose from. There is the dog/cat mating issue, the trust dilemma, and the healing that has to happen after the revealing of the big secret. There’s also guilt to wade through and olive branches to extend. A lot of emotional angst and self searching gets explored in this short tale. In the midst of all of it, there is a sense of community, camaraderie and humorous interactions between Zader and some secondary characters that readers of the series probably have gotten to know and adore in the past. They sure were colorful and interesting

Leaf, the wolf alpha and Skye’s first mate, isn’t all that he appears. He’s demanding, forceful and secretive although the author left me in no doubt that he loves Skye. For all his tough-wolf stance, there is a vulnerability inside him that a reader can tell has been burning like acid within him. This book is cathartic for his character and eventually, I foresee a healthier future for him. And he won’t be facing it alone. I found that sweet and romantic in itself.

When Skye, Zader and Leaf do work out their biggest kinks so they could explore the physical connection, it’s not without its share of dark humor and passion. Zader and Leaf have to work out their sexual compatibility and I believe the phrase is, “Don’t cross the swords.” There is certainly an erotic element when both men are with Skye that leads me to believe that they might eventually seduce each other into a bit of light ‘sword’ play in the future. It’s up to reader interpretation and I guess I’ll have to keep reading the series to find out. Sure is a tantalizing thought.

Whether a reader is a first timer to this series like me, or one who’s been following all along, Zader’s Menagerie will satisfy the romantic inside. The pace is brisk with a lot going on to keep a reader’s attention engaged and interested. What’s not to like about alpha shifters in an emotional pickle? It certainly was a fast read for me because I found it fascinating and stimulating. Zader is one yummy guy/cat.

She meets two sexy brothers who turn her world upside down and make her feel good again. When love comes calling, will she accept it? Even if it comes in the form of two sexy shifters?

Melted chocolate isn’t the only thing that melts when reading this story. A reader has a good chance of filling their erotic quota when they read through this little book.

The author does a nice job of setting up the heroine, Melody, as a woman who is successful in everything in her life except her place in her own family. Insecurity and emotional pain are her internal aches to bear and she’s not sure how she’s ever going to heal.

The heroes, Mitch and Sean, have had their own brushes with rejection and their feelings are wary at best. I liked their relationship and thought it sweet. I also enjoyed tremendously how the author had them referring to the antics of their tigers. It was adorable and the descriptions provided a good visual image that I enjoyed.

The book initially came across as a narrative. There was a lot of telling going on as the author set up the environment that would enable the main characters to meet, greet and hit the sheets. At first the book had a text book feel to it until Mitch and Sean made their move on Melody. Then things really picked up, the author’s voice strengthened and the story became more active, engaging and entertaining. At that point, I couldn’t read fast enough because one of the things that Ms. Illyria sure does well is explore with fun and abandon all the ways to physically show love to another person, or in this case, both Mitch and Sean with Melody.

The happily ever after is fairy tale sweet with hints that other issues that always bothered Melody might be resolved, making her happiness total.

Sex and Chocolate: Double Dipped is just plain fun and a delightful story to pass the time with. True, it’s not a heavy hitter, but reading is supposed to be enjoyable and help pass the time in a happy frame of mind. This book absolutely does that and it has the makings of giving satisfaction to erotic romance readers who are looking for a short, entertaining and sweat inducing read.

After a magical artist tattoos an intriguing demon on her skin, Madison meets a gorgeous stranger with an alarming reputation and a fiercely sexy winged creature with an attitude. She senses they are one and the same. Despite the danger surrounding them, she’s drawn to them by an inexplicable force.

Half-human and half-demon, Brody has spent his life fighting against his evil birthright. Despite the hatred of the townsfolk, he uses his supernatural powers to defend them from his foul bloodline.

Neither Madison nor Brody can fight their lust or deny their love, but hell is out to get him. When everyone close to him, especially his destined mate, is targeted by eight generations of Blazewood demons, the only way to fight evil is with evil.

When Madison inadvertently walks straight into Brody Blazewood, she does a complete double take — because he looks just like the demon’s face recently tattooed to her thigh. Intrigued enough to find out more about the handsome stranger, she learns that he and his family founded the town she is visiting on holiday. Their reputation, sadly leaves little to be desired and Brody, as the last of his family line, is as much a bane to the town as his evil relatives were reputed to be.

And so begins a most delightful and sweet tale!

Though a little choppy in the middle, it recovered well in the build-up to the ending, and finished on a satisfying note. Ms Hill’s characters, while appealing, only really became interesting when truly conflicted and dealing with the harsh reality of the situation at the climax.

One character that did stand out throughout the story was the “busybody”, affable Miss Jefferson who, try though she might, couldn’t convince her tenant to steer clear of Brody. She was a hoot! I couldn’t help but like her, especially when she finally comes around to Madison’s way of thinking and acts like a bulldog trying to protect them both!

Definitely worth reading, Wild Woods is a quick and entertaining read and, at eighty-eight pages, just right for light entertainment.

I was one of the ones left behind when the virus hit. A blind woman, trapped in my isolated subterranean prison. Now there are three of us — me and my saviors, Derek and Jay, the two young wolfmen who rescued me.

Attacked by vicious rabids, Derek’s life hangs in the balance. Jay fears our rescuers have ulterior motives. Why else would they offer to help? It’s not like we have a choice, not with Derek’s life at stake. Meeting a compound full of lonely women adds a whole new set of problems. And then there’s Frank. He just can’t leave well enough alone. And if he’s not careful, my boys are going to rip him to pieces.

Rabbit sushi, yuck. Maybe wolfmen don’t mind eating raw meat but Mei Lin wants her meat cooked. Pretty (Mei Lin) came to life in the first book of the Wolfman Tale when she met Derek and Jay; two young wolfmen who came across her den and claimed both the den and her. In book two, Blind Devotion Derek would have died if not for Mace, his pack, and Daniel, who finds them and transport the three to the human compound so that Dr. Baker can sew Derek up.

Since both the Wolfman Series and the Wolfman Tale series are intertwined I recommend reading the books in order of publication before you read this one. Many of the characters are introduced in them and will give the reader a better understanding of the virus that changed the world we know. It will also cut down any confusion that you may run into with the plot if you skip a book. If you don’t want to invest in both series then I would urge the buyer to at least get Blind Passion to read first to bring them up to date on Derek, Jay and Mei Lin.

In Blind Devotion the plot picks up after Derek and Jay go hunting for fresh meat and were attacked by rabid wolfmen. As in the other four books Ms. Black used her wise crack punch lines and crazy Imagination to bring the characters and their personalities to the forefront while creating an entertaining and unique tale of werewolf’s are wolfmen as she calls them since they do not shift like the legendary werewolf.

I found the story to be a truly thrilling journey in the world of “what if”; what if a virus mutated the human body and changed the world we know. Despite a few editing bumps, the two series are very entertaining and I look forward to reading the next book.

I highly recommend the series to anyone who enjoys a new twist to the werewolf theory and loves an author who has a slightly warped sense of humor that comes out in her characters.
