Ms. Kane has given readers a woman who is very direct and unabashedly sexual in the very best sense. She’s free with her opinions, discerning as to whose favor she wishes to incur and knows she looks good. Tundra is a heroine who lives life on her own terms and isn’t apologetic about it. That sense of self and her complete confidence in her decision making ability is actually what gets her involved with the hero – and in trouble.

The hero, Blue, is totally cool. He’s big, he’s mean and isn’t afraid to get his fists bloodied. He’s just as ferocious in the bedroom, much to readers and Tundra’s delight. Tasmin is a feisty and vocal heroine who acts first and thinks about it later. Her instinctual drive to protect and put herself in harm’s way put a spotlight on her protective instincts. That quality and strength of character got her to the planet Aurora and it also provided the reason for her life taking an unexpected turn into romance. She saves a guy who is more than a mere male. I thought that whole premise to be unique, thrilling and a great hook. The author didn’t disappoint me. Ms. Monroe provided me a wonderful book filled with some of the best elements in romance.

Of course, the hero being delicious, handsome, commanding and noble didn’t hurt. That he was proficient with a sword made the primitive female in me sigh and it certainly kept my interest. How could it not? DeMarcus was at turns the arrogant ruler, with an smug attitude that covered up the untouched heart of the man inside.

I actually like the plot technique of a man being dazzled by a woman who is unlike any other. It makes a lot of sense to me. Familiarity breeds contempt, or at least boredom. It’s the discovery of the unknown, the unpredictable that flames passion and nothing can be as different as a woman from another planet, especially if that planet is Earth. Even with all those differences, the things that remain the same are love, trust, fidelity and respect. The author had her characters touch base on all of them. I wasn’t sure if Tasmin’s sister was necessary as written. She seemed like a piece of glue – sticky and messy, good for some things in a pinch but not solid. On the other hand, the scene where DeMarcus taught Tasmin to obey him was off the charts. That was incredibly written, thoroughly enjoyable and sexy with a capital “S”. And whenever he told her where to look and she did, the results were truly stellar. In fact the whole idea behind it was clever and a treat to read. And when she looked up and the hero told her what she was looking at, I had one of those “wow” moments. I love it when the unexpected happens. Very cool.

Star Prince by Ashlynn Monroe is a sexy out of this world experience that is a pleasure to read. Science fiction romance readers will find the locale exotic, the customs satisfactorily alien and a hero and heroine that truly are well matched. I had a fun time reading this tale and it was read in one sitting. I enjoyed the light drama, the way DeMarcus and Tasmin took turns seducing each other and the marriage ceremony. The happily ever after was not a long drawn out affair but it was enough to assure me they were going to be very good for each other and their adventure is just beginning. Caitlin’s sassiness and Kyran’s determination come together in humorous dialog sure to give you a few chuckles. Ms. Kane’s does a fine job with grammar, punctuation, and point-of-view changes with little to no noticeable editing errors. Overall, I found the book enjoyable and entertaining.

All these questions get explored and the answers are quite entertaining. It’s true the heroine, Cassidy Kerrigan isn’t an outdoors kind of gal. Not at all. The fact she’s even on this assignment has less to do with qualifications and more to do with spite. The story has to be read for a reader of this review to get the full effect. Families in spiraling dysfunction are capable of less than honorable things, or great efforts of sacrifice.

Cassidy is fighting her own sexual drives when she meets up with Andrei Dinu, her guide through the wilderness. If a healthy and available female ever meets up with a guy described as Andrei is in this tale, they’d be hard pressed to do anything else but stare, drool and dream of being the focus of his intentions. As it is, the heroine fights it with professionalism – until it starts to rain. All the best things happen when it rains. You know, plants grow, leaves are washed clean of dust and pollen, and opportunities to explore caves in clingy wet clothes that simply have to come off before they catch their death of cold – those kinds of best things. Cassidy and Andrei are good together and their chemistry is sizzling. I laughed at the part where the hero discussed Cassidy’s photography and her penchant for focusing on other subjects. This story made me smile and entertained me and that’s the best recommendation there is.

Innocents are killed along with the bad guys, which of course feeds their fears and justifies it even more. It’s during one of those unfortunate encounters that I met the first main character, the heroine, Aurora.

Aurora is spunky, definitely opinionated, stubborn and a natural born activist with a surprising talent for beaning people on the head when they threaten her. She puts up a token fight in the beginning of the relationship because who would ever believe that two really gorgeous guys would not only want her but really do intend to be loyal and true? She doesn’t fight for long thanks to those mysterious paranormal plot techniques that really get a woman ready for her men. What made it palatable was Aurora’s sense of humor. She’s cheeky, flirtatious and quite fun and if anyone can pull off living with two alpha men, it’s her.

The men in question are Varick and Kender. Varick is the phoenix and Kender is the gryphon. Both fly, which is cool, both are Aurora’s mates and both come with some interesting emotional baggage. There was a determined optimism about the whole thing. Nothing embraced that feeling of hope of a future than the happily ever after. I liked that.

Protect and Serve: Shifting Forces is fun, sexy and surprisingly action packed. The chapters that take turns in each of the main character’s point of view were very helpful in understanding some of their motivation. It also helped me understand how Aurora gets into the pickle she does. A woman in emotional turmoil and in a snit, will be consumed by her own inner demons and will truly not be as observant as she should be. I got a kick out of the ending, especially the tree part – very adorable and cute. There is a lot to recommend to readers about this story but the best thing is that it entertains. I enjoyed myself and if anyone has been following this series, I think they’ll agree.

I love that Regan is not the macho all gung-ho guy, but has a lot of insecurity where Cam is concerned. I really liked the little things Regan does to convince Cam to pose, and to be with him.

Camryn Tate is magic when he is holding his guitar. A talented musician and songwriter, Cam has secrets and insecurities of his own. He doesn’t believe his luck that Regan feels the same about him as he does about Regan, and wonders why it took them so long to get together. I loved that although apprehensive, he trusts Regan to take care of him and not hurt him. I cried when he finally opened up and was honest with Regan about his past, and the reasons for his doubts.

This is an exploration of passion by two people learning to please each other, and learning what their limits are, in life and in love. It is a compliment to Ms Slayer that, once I started reading, gender ceased to matter, and the love story came to the forefront here. These are two people, learning to love and please each other and planning a future together, and nothing is more special than that to me. If you aren’t comfortable with man-to-man touching, and more, this is not the book for you, but I enjoyed this, and look forward to more from Ms. Slayer in the future.
