Josiah: I survived the Civil War only to be murdered thirty-eight years later. Too angry and too bitter to move on, I haunted the land where my blood was shed. I found no peace until Matson Ashby came into my life. I watched him grow into adulthood, never imagining how sexy he’d become. Now I want him for my own, but I’m a ghost, and he’s human.

Matson: I was born and raised in rural Prenter’s Bottom, North Carolina, on the land my family farmed for more than a hundred years. Being gay in my little town? Well, let’s just say it’s not been easy. When I inherit my grandmother’s estate, I must decide whether to sell or stay where I’m not welcome. The problem is compounded by the ghost of a murdered man who tugs at my heartstrings. Is he real, or just a figment of my imagination?

Josiah had barely been a teenager when he fought in the Civil War. After returning home wounded and losing everything, he had he eked out a quiet life until he was murdered. Even though he knew how to take on a physical form, Josiah had no interest in doing so. After Matson had finally shaken off the dust of his small home-town he’d never done more than briefly visit his family, tired of hiding his true feelings in the small, bigoted township. When his Granny left him her house Matson came home to decide what he should do with the property. Can Matson and Josiah find their way together and each find their happy ending?

This is a slightly different and rather interesting story. I was pleased that the author changed perspectives between Josiah and Matson each chapter – as this helped me really understand and appreciate where both characters were coming from throughout the story. While Josiah is a ghost – and a man from a historical time – in many ways he felt modern enough to be relatable to. I really enjoyed how the author explained how Josiah watched Matson grow up and how Josiah’s feelings slowly evolved, this really helped sell me to the romance and emotions between the two men – particularly from Josiah’s perspective.

I feel this story will appeal not just to readers who enjoy erotic M/M stories but also readers who like small-town romances and more historical novels. This short story was a good blend in my opinion and could suit a wide range of readers.

For the most part the growing romance between Josiah and Matson, and the paranormal/ghostly aspect of Josiah’s situation is the conflict and plot of the story, though there is a small detour highlighting the bigotry of the small-minded townsfolk trying to block Matson from being able to go forward with his idea of a Bed and Breakfast. With so many elements going on I feel the story might have been stronger had only one or two aspects been included in this short story – and not left everything feeling so crammed. With historical and contemporary components, paranormal and ghostly/After Life aspects all vying for attention with the B&B plotline and Matson and Josiah’s romance – the story felt quite busy and a little like everything was skimmed over to make room for everything else. I feel readers should also be aware that the short epilogue contains a strong teaser/hint for the next book in the series.

I was pleased that the paranormal aspects of Josiah’s after-life were well explained, and the sex between Josiah and Matson is smoking hot and quite explicit. I also enjoyed seeing Matson and Josiah set up the basis for turning Matson’s Granny’s house into the B&B. With plenty going on and a few smoking hot sex scenes I feel this short story will appeal to a lot of different readers.

When one thing lead to another she happily took the sexy Ray home with her and their pretend status became very real. Only after they share a night together does Tansy realize things could get very complicated very quickly.

I enjoyed this very short story. I felt the opening scene in particular was very well written and totally captured my imagination. I thought both Tansy and Ray were interesting characters and while I’d have enjoyed a bit more time to get to know them both I understood the author didn’t have a lot of room for that.

I was a little disappointed that Ray initially explained his extraordinary circumstances to Tansy in rather veiled terms. I had to read through that conversation twice before I really got a handle on what I thought was happening – though I was really pleased when it became clearer further into the story. I did feel though that the paranormal aspect to the story was a critical part of the plot – and in how Ray and Tansy got together. I personally would have preferred had that initial conversation been written a little more explicitly and not left me feeling confused by its vagueness.

I loved the heat level between Ray and Tansy. I felt they both were very sexually compatible and the chemistry really sizzled between them to my mind. And Nick, Tansy’s friend was a complete surprise to me and I found him delightful. There’s a whole stack of plot in the second half of the book which I thought was well paced and deeply interesting. The connection between Ray and Tansy stayed strong though and I thought overall the author did a good job for such a short story.

With a very interesting plot and a strong paranormal style of sub-text this was a good read and I’d happily check out more stories set in this world. I’ll definitely be looking for more by this author.

Gale Kimball has lost her cheating ex-boyfriend and thought she would lose everything. Her luck changes as she meets an enigmatic man named Drew at the restaurant. Drew follows her home and offers her a deal that she can’t refuse.

I like the character of Gale. She doesn’t let her circumstances get to her. Most people would freak out if thrust into her circumstances, but she seems to meet them with courage. When Drew enters her life, she considers him a life saver. He pays her rent and gives her money for other bills.

Their relationship is quick but not very deep since they have only known each other for a short time. Drew is a mysterious figure that we don’t get to learn much about yet. He is a vampire and asks Gale if he can drink her blood and sometimes sleep at her apartment. For that he will pay her rent. Not a bad deal, really.

There are a few things that bothered me a bit. For one, I think the way that Gale reacted to Drew being a vampire and the deal he offers was a little odd. I would have liked to see more character development and find out more about their past. The ending is rather sudden and is a cliffhanger. That might not appeal to many readers, but might be perfect for others.

The cliffhanger is going to draw readers to pick up the second book, I know I will. A short but good story with vampires that are different from the norm. Hopefully the second book comes out soon so we all can find out what happens next.

His forty-ninth birthday approaching, Ed is expecting nothing more than his usual stiff drink and an anonymous fuck in the back room of Yancy’s Crossings. What he never expected was to be picked up by two college students and taken for a ride that would change his life forever.

Ed is bearing down on turning forty-nine and even though he didn’t live the life of a virgin, it had been a long time since he’d shared more than a quickie in the back room of his favourite bar. I found this to be an interesting and very explicit short story. In some respects this felt a little old-school to me, with Ed dwelling a fair bit on his increasing age, but also the way his regular bar was set up, with a designated back room for voyeurs or anyone willing and interested to share flesh and sex with each other within certain boundaries. While I found the descriptions of the scene interesting and a little eye-opening, it felt a bit to me like an older style of club or maybe even a speak-easy. I really enjoyed this, but feel some more modern readers might not find it quite to their tastes.

Even though Ed, Kyle and Ryan get off on the wrong foot they all can’t resist the need and attraction building between them. While it’s clear all three men are willing I was never quite certain that the friction between Ed and Kyle would sort itself out. Readers looking for a gentle or sweeter sort of story might not find this suits their needs – even though it’s not dwelled on too long, there is some serious history to Ryan revolving around abuse and pain that might not suit every reader’s tastes inside their erotic romance reading.

I found Ed, Kyle and Ryan were all interesting characters and while their interactions weren’t very traditional or straightforward there is plenty of threesome sex between them and loads of tension and chemistry that add well to the story and make it really stand out as different to my mind.

A little old-school and very hot and sexy, this is a good and solid short story that I feel should appeal to many readers looking for something harder and a little bit different.

After one wild night in his bed, he delivers a crushing blow — he’s not interested in a relationship. But she’s welcome in his bed, anytime.

Will pride keep her from enjoying the pleasure she finds in his arms? Can Scott overlook past pain and risk his heart all over again?

Scott is the newest sales rep for Winters Beer, and while usually he would chafe at the indecisiveness of a potential client, when it comes to the Fiddler Scott has a mountain of patience. Every time he needs to go back gives him another opportunity to see Mercedes. They’d both flirt, and Scott knew there was more than just good chemistry between them – so why did Mercedes always turn him down, each and every time?

I found this to be a sexy, very modern style of romance. The chemistry between Scott and Mercedes was delicious and I found it personally quite clear they wanted each other very much. I also really enjoyed the pacing of the story – even though they’d been flirting and circling each other for ages, the reader isn’t just thrown into Scott and Mercedes burning up the sheets together. We get to see them interact a few times and also get to see just how serious they are about each other from both of their perspectives. This helped me see that despite his playboy reputation Scott really was genuinely interested in the spark he felt with Mercedes, and that despite her turning him down continually Mercedes was just gun-shy – not stringing him along.

I was a little torn about the two main areas of conflict in the story. Mis-communications between Scott and Mercedes made me really question at one point if they were a good long-term romance pairing. They each had trust and commitment worries and despite there being plenty of steam in the bedroom and chemistry between them as characters I just couldn’t help but feel the issues that rose between them might be a flag for real problems down the line. About half way through the short story I realized I might be over-thinking the longevity of Scott and Mercedes and one I disconnected my brain and just ran with it I enjoyed the story a lot more – but I can’t help but think this might not be suited to every readers tastes as I didn’t feel completely convinced Scott and Mercedes would (or should) last the distance together.

Readers looking for chemistry and sexy shenanigans between two interesting and layered characters should, I feel, certainly get what they’re after here. I found both Scott and Mercedes to be interesting and well-drawn characters. In many respects this is a good, steamy short story. I enjoyed the sex and found it strongly believable and there’s a strong cast of secondary characters that I felt really helped flesh out the story and make the larger world outside of Scott and Mercedes’ relationship feel more realistic. A good short story.

Kelly likes his quiet life – warm and comfortable and filled with books, exactly how he wants it. When his best friend, Max, convinces Kelly to take a job cataloguing the library of his dreams, Kelly simply can’t resist. And after unknowingly drinking a love potion Max slipped him, Kelly is surprised when Dregan Stone’s books aren’t the only thing he can’t resist.

I really enjoyed this short story. Kelly and Dregan were fun and interesting characters I felt connected to very quickly. Kelly is a fairly typical human guy, and while Dregan (much as his name suggests) is a dragon-shifter he’s still a book-obsessed, family and clan-orientated independent guy who I could easily see myself chatting to over a hot cup of tea. Despite the short length of the story I was pleased the author spent a bit of time in the beginning allowing us as readers to see a bit of Dregan and Kelly’s personalities by themselves as they slowly interacted with one another. This helped the romance between them firstly feel more realistic, but also allowed me as a reader see that this wasn’t just a potion-fueled lust thing – or worse, something fake or temporary. I could see how Dregan and Kelly meshed together as people and how they shared a number of interests together.

I’m not sure if the author meant to give this story a hint of “Beauty and the Best” to it. It very well just could be me – and that ginormous library – but there were a few points where I wondered if the author was subtly giving a nod to the Beast in particular. I was a little surprised how quickly Kelly accepted Dregan and all the paranormal secrets revolving around him. Considering the short length of the story I fully appreciate how going back and forth between disbelief or denial might have eaten too much into the story, but I couldn’t help but feel Kelly was just a shade too accepting and unsurprised by some pretty huge paranormal aspects to Dregan and his world.

With two very interesting characters, a library to drool over and some fun and sexy romance between the two men overall I found this to be a light and enjoyable, quick read. I found the author’s voice mostly realistic and can easily see myself enjoying this quick read again in the future.

So when Daniel O’Hare manages to charm her with his wild Irish looks and sexy voice, Aisling is shocked, because she never, ever thought she’d even like a human – let alone be falling in love with one.

This is a fun and sexy short story. I really enjoyed how the magic and mechanism behind the love potion brew was explained so as the reader I could understand where this major plot point was coming from. Instead of just a vague “drinking a love potion” suggestion I appreciated Aisling actually asking a few hard questions and having this explained to her – and thus us readers too.

While I could understand if some readers don’t fully enjoy the “insta-love” style of relationship that starts between Aisling and Daniel because of the potion, I personally felt there was still a good bit of chemistry between the two. Aisling is pretty determined not to like – and certainly not to love or become involved with – a human, so that added quite a bit of conflict to Aisling’s character. On the one hand the potion was allowing them both to see each other in a new light and without doubts or hesitation, but it also released some very normal and natural inhibitions too. So I could appreciate and understand the thin line the author treaded here. I’m not sure this will be the style of plot of book that all readers will enjoy, but I personally found it sexy and interesting and just different enough to keep me hooked and turning the pages.

Throw reality and caution to the wind, sit back with a decent drink and just enjoy this fun and sexy short story. With all manner of magical creatures, love potions and some steamy hot sex it’s a great way to spend an evening and a story I enjoyed.
