Wealthy recluse Anthony Lyons lures Marie Maxwell, Atlanta’s most sought-after event planner, to his isolated estate in North Carolina to coordinate a wedding and reception for a “very special couple.”

Despite her sophisticated veneer, Marie’s a street-smart orphan without a past. Adopted by the owners of the elegant Hotel Maxwell, she was raised in the business. For an outrageous fee, Marie accepts Lyons’ challenge to plan a wedding for 200 guests in 10 days at Lyons’ Den. Her work is complicated by an absent bride and bridegroom and an arrogant and exasperating employer who is too interested in her and her personal life—especially those lost years.

Confronted by a mysterious stalker, two murder attempts and dark shadows from her shrouded past, Marie finds an ally in an amorous feline of some unknown species. But who’s got it in for her? And what’s with Anthony and all the cats?

This short story screams “intrigue” from page one. I had so many questions just from reading the description I dove into this book with determination as soon as it hit my inbox.

At first the hero, Anthony, comes across as more of a stiff anti-hero. He’s coarse and abrasive but then he begins referring to Marie as “Kitten” and it honestly had me sighing. There was so much emotion and hope built into that simple moniker, I just knew there was more to Anthony than my first impression. On a side note, Marie gives Anthony a nickname, as well; it too was chock full of (humorous) meaning. She excels at defying this Alpha male. I liked Marie from the very beginning. She’s smart, talented and in no way a wilting flower.

Ms. Bay set the tone for a mystery to solve right away. Anthony offers to pay an extraordinary amount of money to get Marie to his NC estate. She’s supposed to pull off a miracle wedding to celebrate the grand “awaited event” within ten days but without the benefit of a bride or groom to consult. I started getting a clue to the “paranormal” aspect of the book when Marie is confronted by some larger than normal felines and when she sits down to prepare the menu. There’s a distinct lack of green leafy offerings but plenty of fish and rich desserts. It was actually at this point during the planning that I began to think this book was going to be too pat, too textbook convenient.  I had lots of questions and Marie struck me as a character who should have been equally curious or at the very least apprehensive. The events that followed brought a new level to the mysterious happenings as well as gave this reader insight into Marie’s past. It brought the story full circle and provided closure that was satisfying.

Readers who enjoy a bit of intrigue as well as humor with their paranormal will have no trouble be swept into Marie and Anthony’s story. The chemistry between the characters practically crackles on the page. It isn’t soft or subtle and neither Marie nor Anthony is completely sure they like it until they finally give it. Well worth the read and doesn’t take up much your time. Pick up a copy today and see what trouble you can find by venturing Into the Lyons Den.

When Katie receives a call from Courtney with bad news, she immediately flies to Seattle to be with her. Dusty goes in search of Frank to see about righting this terrible wrong. Upon discovering Katie can’t go back but he can, Dusty eagerly confronts their past, but quickly finds out it’s not as easy as he thought. Getting Katie to fall for him all over again is a challenge he didn’t expect. Finding out the identity of Frank was even more surprising.

There are problems inherent with a time travel story. First and foremost you don’t want to tamper with history . . . you never know what is going to happen. Secondly, if the time jumps are not too far from the character’s current day, it can seem very confusing as to where they are (current or time-jump). Most time-travel I’ve read has their characters jump very far into the past or into the future to take care of most of these problems. Not this one. Not only are the time jumps into recent past (with 20 years or so), but the characters go back into their own timelines. . . multiple times!

So, that prepares you for the initial confusion. Not only does Dusty return to a time in his life where he first meets his wife (and therefore has to attract her . . . again!), but he ends up having to do this several times.

At stake is the life of his wife’s best friend, Courtney. Dusty would do anything for his wife, Katie, including going back in time to change events for a “happily ever after” for everyone involved. When he gets the opportunity courtesy of “Frank”, the mysterious man who sent Katie on a time travel mission years before, Dusty jumps at it.

Despite not having a solid plan, and having to try multiple times, Dusty seems to enjoy some of his time back in college. He gets to enjoy meeting and wooing his (now) wife. Because he is married to her, they tend to jump into bed rather quickly. This is definitely the source of heat in this novel. There is no shortage of steamy interludes.

To eliminate confusing you in the review, I’ll just let you know, there are plenty of other hookups in this story. Plenty of descriptions of college partying. Plenty of raucous college life. However, the hottest and most detailed descriptions are the relationship between Dustin and Katie.

This isn’t an easy book to read. I found myself re-reading passages and highlighting things so that I could co back and check who was whom and who was doing what. Having said that, this is definitely the epitome of a “happily ever after”. It was satisfying in that respect, and well worth the (literary) ride. Readers who are familiar with the Twin Cities and the University of Minnesota may also find a unique connection to the story (as this is where Dusty and Katie went to school – and therefore the time travel takes place there).

I did not enjoy the actual conclusion of the story. Well, I should say, upon first reading, I did not enjoy the conclusion of the story. The upside to this is – as time passed, I found that the resolution was a little easier to understand and did give a unique flavor to the story.

So – in all, I have to give Dustin’s Turn a big thumbs up. It isn’t easy to read, and will make you think about it even when you aren’t actively reading it. But aren’t those qualities you truly enjoy in a book?

Lord Toby Allenby is very fond of women – perhaps a little too fond. His younger brother, Harry, conversely, has no intentions of even contemplating another relationship – ever.

So, when the boys’ Great Aunt Milly bequeaths the magnificent Diddington Hall to whichever of the pair marries first, Toby assumes the inheritance is his for the taking, providing, of course, he can find a suitable bride.

But add to the mix a scheming mistress, a murderous money lender, an ambitious strumpet, and a bookish accident-prone young lady completely terrified of men, and Toby’s finds his quest not quite as simple as he first supposed …

Where is the Diddington Diamond? Is there really a Diddington Diamond? Is it legend or truth? Either way the late Millicent Phoebe Venetia O’Hare of Diddington Hall uses it to influence matchmaking even beyond the grave. Her old solicitor Mr. Gerald Hinds does enjoy getting to be a part of and see the results of his old friends meddling.

Louisa Winchester of Hartley House in Diddlington had accepted her mother, Eliza Winchester’s philosophy that men “steal your heart then toss it aside like a worn boot”. Consequently, men should be avoided at all times. But when their lives get entangled with the Duke and Duchess of Wolsington family who now occupy Diddlington Hall, Louisa and Eliza find their regimented life style flies out the window.

Lord Tobias Allenby, Marquis of Yarm, and Harry, his younger brother, Earl of Stanford, the Duke and Duchess’ sons, expected to inherit Diddlington Hall from their great-aunt Millie. What they didn’t expect was the caveat she attached. Tobias, deep in gambling debts and involved with a strong-willed mistress, has no desire to get married, but he needs to if he is to get himself out of the mess he got himself into. While Harry’s Clare, the love of his life, died and he plans to never fall in love again. The idea of marriage is abhorrent to him. But he loves Diddlington Hall. Great-Aunt Millie does force the issue of growing up and accepting responsible on two idle young men—one seeking personal pleasure regardless of cost and the other wallowing in misery, refusing to live life since his Clare is dead.

The secondary characters that influence so much of the action are truly a mixed lot. Maria Dove, the house guest of Eliza and Louisa, is from Yorkshire and bent on finding a rich, important husband. My goodness, what a stir she causes. Her antics can be outrageous. What a startling climax and denouement to her story! Caroline, Tobias’ mistress, is another that lets her influence be felt with no holds barred. She knows what she wants and woe to anyone who gets in her way. Of course, the seemingly ever-present, helpful Viscount Winston and the late-on-the-scene Elizabeth Wilson play significant roles in their own quiet ways.

The subtle, often tongue-in-cheek, humor that ripples through The Diddington Diamond makes it a delight to read. The self-imposed misery of Lady Eliza Winchester is incredible to the point of laughable at times. Even Tobias’ misery, though deadly serious, is humorous at times as he tries to outwit his creditor and his mistress and still hang on to his inheritance. His plight begins to wear a little before it is resolved, but the quite unintentional connection Harry and Louisa make, as the catalogue books and search for the Diddington diamond, shines with humor, laughter and yes, love, giving the reader that special feeling that all is right with the world. The many happily-ever-after sub-stories don’t come easily but they do come with a satisfied sigh for the reader.

Wendy Burdess puts in some special little tidbits that add a unique touch to the story, like the pink and lilac butterfly, the places that nurture love, and one of the best is a little snippet in the epilogue that tickles the imagination. She writes in a delightful, entertaining style.

Gail Sarandon runs for her life after witnessing a murder. Found by Special Agent Jason Tregarth, the two are spotted by the murderer and pursued. After a car crash, Gail and Jason are taken in by the inhabitants of Dagon House who all have secrets of their own.

Dagon House itself hides its own terrible secrets. When the murderer finds Gail and Jason, it wakes the vengeful ghosts who are bent on revenge.

When Gail finds a note under her door from her ex-boyfriend, she doesn’t think things could get worse. She was very wrong.

Gail’s life quickly spirals out of control after finding the note. One minute she’s irritated that her ex is still trying to contact her, the next she’s witnessing his murder. Certain the killer saw her, Gail runs. It isn’t long before she’s intercepted by a federal agent determined to protect her. When an accident drives them to take shelter in a creepy old house with some very odd strangers, Jason and Gail are in more danger than ever. The killer is closing in on them, and it will only be a matter of time before he makes his move.

Gail and Jason made a cute couple. They didn’t exactly have a “love at first sight” connection, but there was still something sizzling beneath the surface when they connected. I think the relationship between Gail and Jason progressed a little too quickly and their “happily ever after” felt a bit forced considering they’d only known each other for a few days and hadn’t really had time to get to know each other on a personal level. Age is one of the most common denominator of men with androgenic alopecia were cheap viagra 25mg https://www.unica-web.com/2014-images/GA-2014-report-of-auditors.pdf successfully treated. Despite this issue, I sincerely like both characters and hope they have a great future.

The most intriguing part of Taken In is certainly the history of Dagon House and its ghosts. I think some of the past of the house was revealed a bit too directly. The story would have been even more thought provoking and chilling if the details concerning the ghosts and their deaths would have been revealed a bit more subtly. Despite this fact, I think there is still a lot more to be learned about Dagon House, and my interest is definitely piqued. When I finished reading the story, questions immediately began popping into my mind. Why had the former inhabitants of the house been murdered? Why do they still haunt the house? Do they remain in at the house because they want revenge or are they there for some other purpose? Also, Jason kept saying that the name of the house implied something evil, yet all the ghosts that showed themselves in this story were essentially good. Is there something more malevolent waiting to be revealed in future installments? I look forward to finding out.

In addition to wanting to know more about the ghosts, I would also like to find out more about the women currently living in the house, Anita and Krystal. Both women are running from violent pasts and their situations were far from resolved when the story ended. I couldn’t help but wonder if it was pure coincidence that two women with similar problems ended up renting the same house, or if something else was going on.

I’m glad I had the opportunity to read Taken In. It is a fast paced mystery with sinister undertones that can be enjoyed in one sitting. While the ending is certainly satisfying, Ms. Toombs has raised many tantalizing questions sure to have readers looking for the next book in the series.

With the death of her father, Lenna Keith is trapped between a king’s command and a land hungry guardian. Her luck improves none as she flees and winds up at the mercy of the Gunns, the very clan seeking to destroy her family, but, looking into the eyes of their Laird, her heart rebels at the thought that this man is her adversary.

Alax Gunn is intrigued by this spirited woman but mostly by the fact that she mirrors someone who has haunted him since youth. Curiosity and mistrust turn to attraction and desire, but swiftly she becomes so more to him. What all will he sacrifice to keep Lenna safe and in his arms? Will a love between two destined enemies bring an end to a feud or to two ancient clans of Scotland?

Ghosts, grudges and greed have nineteen-year-old Lenna Keith’s life in upheaval and seriously threatened. She’s the heir to Ackergill Castle that has belonged to the Keith clan for generations. She has ninety days to choose a husband from one of the feuding clans to help bring peace to the region or King James will choose one for her. In late sixteenth-century Scotland, her prospects did not bode well for a happy future.

With Ackergill taken over by Edward of the Sinclair clan, Lenna escapes after being abused. She runs to seek help only to fall into a poacher trap on land belonging to the hated Gunn clan. For over a century the Ackergill Keiths and the Halberry Gunns have been bitter enemies.

Alaxander Gunn, the new laird of Halberry, is a stranger to his own clan having been fostered at an early age and then sent on to King James’ court as a young man. When he rescues the wounded Lenna from the trap and takes her to Halberry to heal and rest, he sets of a storm of protest among his people. A hated Keith in their midst is abhorrent to them.

The old doctor Patrick stoically tends her. James, Alaxander’s cousin and second, is outright hostile and vocal. He rages until Alaxander say “No More….” Even Alax’s mother disapproves. The ghost of the “Green Lady”, believed to be the spirit of the fifteenth-century Helen Gunn who died trying to escape the cruel abuse of a Keith, haunts Alax’s dreams and has for years, but now it seems more real and persistent telling him to not let tragedy take him and Lenna like it had taken her and her home. Her appearance to many influences actions that relate to Lenna and Alax’s well-being in a secretive and dangerous situation.

When Andrew of the MacKay clan abducts Lenna, the hopelessness she feels and her pain keeps the reader’s adrenaline pumping. Her courage and tenacity makes exciting reading. However, the entrance of a deranged, cruel priest puts Lenna’s life in peril and her pain is unrelenting. After all her valiant efforts, she feels death is imminent but refuses to give up.

A traitor in the Gunn clan, driven by deep-abiding hatred, has orchestrated the havoc in Lenna and Alax’s lives and deems both of them unfit to be at Halberry. I was so tempted to skip over to the back and see who it was. Even though the foreshadowing is there I missed it. As the suspense gets intense, the silent scream of, “Who is doing all these evil things?” prods one to read in a hurry.

The alliances change among the clans and the capricious ways of the king keep the reader on tenterhooks as the story builds to a climax.

Among all the misery and hate, which felt a little overdone, there are spots of humor that bring a bit of relief. One of the best is Alax and Lenna’s ride home after he rescues her and gives her whiskey to ease her pain. She becomes “pure seduction”. Even Moira giggles at her as she gets the inebriated Lenna settled in bed knowing a deluxe hangover awaits Lenna the next morning. Of course, the love scenes bring out the best of the characters and all the misery dims as Alax and Lenna, against tremendous odds, find acceptance and their happy-ever-after. I stayed up late to finish this one.

But Keith Hanover is no player, he’d rather charm Sarah. His deal is if she can’t find him true love, than she must meet him on Sunset Beach for a date.

Her search for his perfect match begins an unruly adventure of close talkers, criers and a few Abbey-normals. There’s shark diving, a mad scientist, crazy roadside fruit stand kids, Dole ice cream lickers, and paparazzi. Will Keith even make it to the date with Sarah before running from her set-ups?

Just because you’re a reporter doesn’t mean you can see what’s right under your nose. Like most of us non-journalist types, Sarah is so focused on her “mission” she fails to see what’s really going on around her.

Now, I’m not saying that being in Hawaii and being hit on by an aggressive “open” couple as well as scouting for new romance stories isn’t enough to make any of us miss a few things, but we’re fortunate as the readers to be able to see everything (or at least re-read and catch everything!)

Sarah finds Keith and thinks she can turn him into her job-saving column – but Keith thinks otherwise. Hilarity ensues, as does confusion, heartbreak and some pretty steamy scenes.

One of the nicest parts of the story are the secondary characters. They are each an integral piece of the story and allow our hero and heroine to grow. I must say I enjoyed Sarah’s cab driver; his role in Sarah and Keith’s lives was amusing and, dare I say, sweet.

At the risk of spoiling the story, I will say, three separate times I thought the story was over. Ms. Loy surprised me by continuing. In one respect, it was nice to keep the characters around and enjoy being in their lives for “just a little while longer”. On the other hand, this story is such a roller-coaster, sometimes I felt the need to “step off” for a little while.

Fast-paced and full of twists and turns, this is definitely a story you will want to make time to read.

When even that starts to fall apart, he uses Christmas to get away and regroup… sort of. He’s a more complex character than M. J. With M. J., what you see is what you get. Brady holds more back, although once he decides he wants to be with M. J. he lays it all on the line. I love the fact that he can do this after having been hurt by his ex-fiancée so recently. He shows his perseverance and rugged strength in everything he does, making him the perfect man to help M. J. through her breakup and seeming family crisis.

Reinventing Christmas is a fun and cozy holiday story stuffed full of a stocking’s worth of humor, family, and second chances at love. It makes for a wonderful read any time of the year, but most especially during the Christmas holidays when we’re all looking for proof that anything can happen. Whether the snow is piling up outside or the summer sun is blazing down on your shoulders, Reinventing Christmas is perfect for any season when love is on the line.
