With the threat of scandal hanging over Lady Leah Harrington, her parents arrange a temporary position for her in Australia as a companion to her aunt. Leah vows that on her return to England, she will forge her own future as a published lady of letters. However, now that she’s learned men are not to be trusted, having her sensibilities muddled by a dashing navy captain is not what she had planned for herself.

Despite France’s ever-present menace during the Napoleonic Wars, Captain Heath Trevelyan is ordered to transport a load of convicts aboard HMS Charlotte Mary destined for the penal colony of Australia. As a favour to a friend, he also provides passage for an alluring young woman and her aunt. When his ship sinks during a storm, a battle of endurance ensues for Heath and the survivors, including several convicts and the beauty who has captured his senses.

Both tadalafil discount of these medications are easy to use. Which will he obey? His orders or his heart?

Well, I’ll be the first to eat my words. I read and reviewed book one in this series and didn’t really think I’d read the next one considering the heroine was going to be Leah Harrington and I wasn’t a fan. I admit that I was wrong. When will I ever learn to “never say never”? I love how this book turned out!

In truth, Leah’s Surrender can be read as a standalone but you might want to read about her in the first book in the series. Why? Because I think you might be surprised about Leah. She caused quite the conflict in the first novel which made for an excellent plot. Because of that, I wasn’t sure how she’d be redeemed in my eyes enough to have her own story. I assure you that the evolution of Leah was well written.

Actually, upon further pondering I’ve changed my mind. I absolutely recommend reading the first one prior to Leah’s Surrender because a reader should fully feel the effect of the scandal hanging over Lady Leah’s head. The more I reflect on Leah’s character, the more my opinion changes. I have to consider her age and that her reactions and choices were appropriate in Sophie’s Choice. I didn’t put much consideration into that fact at the time. As you can see, this series could very well be a great choice for a book club debate. But I’ll give credit where credit is due. Heath helped redeem Leah in my eyes. His perspective of her swung me around to team Leah. I would have preferred her age to be slightly higher, but given this is an historical book, I realize that was probably how it was back then. So, as I said before, her behavior was appropriate for her age and therefore necessary to be accurately written as such.

Even though I’ve gone back and forth about the heroine’s character, the unquestionable fact is that A.M. Westerling’s writing style is absolutely remarkable. I have a memory like Dory in the movie Finding Nemo so the fact that I remember my emotions from Sophie’s Choice is a testimony in itself. The Ladies of Harrington House series is unforgettable and I attribute that to the writing style. It made me feel as if I was in the story as a witness. Oh, I can’t forget to mention a certain villainous character that reappears in Leah’s Surrender. That was a nice plot twist.

If you are debating if you should read Sophie’s Choice first or not I’m going to share what’s in my heart. I think Leah’s Surrender will be better for readers after reading the first novel in the series. The characters are very well developed and a strong relationship is built between the reader and the characters. Book two continues that sense of connection. A.M. Westerling has succeeded in wiping out all previous reservations I might have had early on.

Now, I could re-write this review to try to share even more of my favorite parts because there is a great deal of content to reflect upon. One of them is when the hero, Heath’s, ship sinks during a storm. I should have had my life jacket on reading that scene. I’d love to be saved by Captain Heath Trevelyan! Not only does he meet all my book boyfriend qualities but his name alone is swoon worthy. I just love the name Heath. In the words of an Italian Chef, al bacio!

Regarding Heath and Leah’s relationship, I did find it entertaining and I was in full support of their satisfying happily ever after. I’m pleased at how the entire flow of the book kept me guessing what was going to happen next from beginning to end. Leah’s Surrender was hard to put down. Catherine is the next sister in line for her own story and now I can’t wait to read the third book! This is one series I’m glad I discovered and definitely recommend others to discover it too.

This is the third novel of in The Color of Death series. It follows a young Chinese woman, Lin Kwan, with much needed herbs for her father who is working on an antidote for the plague that has ravaged the whole world. She first comes to San Francisco where she was told her father was living. The disease originally only affected Caucasians but now it is starting to mutate and affect different races.

When she arrives at her father’s friend’s house, she finds out that her father had been taken away. She stayed there and made friends with Xi San also known as Sam or a nickname of the Sandman. Both are Chinese and have been trained in martial arts. Kwan also makes a wonderful friend, Valery, who was dispensing medicine to the sick in San Francisco and knew she needed to do more than that to help the world. The two of them start towards Ohio where she finds out that her father is now staying after she receives a letter. And Sam starts to make his journey to St. Louis to be with his best friend Eddie who had his own radio station that offers those seeking sanctuary a way to get there safely and to offer comfort and hope.

These Characters are so wonderfully created that they feel like part of your family. The bravery that Eddie shows who is part of the radio broadcast with a woman named Isis makes me humble as they could have been shut down at any time from the small Government, along with the threat of arrest. Their radio station is incredibly important as it gives lifesaving information, help keep spirits high, and tell it as it is. They don’t sugar coat any information they receive, including how the government was treating their mayor.

Kwan’s perseverance in reaching her father to help him hopefully create a cure for the plague before all the citizens are dead shows just how determined and strong, she is. She takes every challenge in front of her with spirit and placing her life above all else. Sam is another man that lives by a code of honor, spirit, and strength. His plans are amazing, and he will give his all to keep his new family alive. Although they have faced danger and death on their journey, I find it amazing how much everyone helps each other. Marie is a sweet woman who adores taking care of all those that live under her care while Jack provides wisdom in their greatest fight.

Their greatest enemy is a man named Gabriel who is obsessed about saving the white people and killing all those of different races. He has a huge group of fanatical followers that he calls the Angel’s that will do anything he tells them. He blames the different races for the plague and is charismatic and gives those that feel lost a purpose. I can see why many follow him even though it disgusts me.

There are at least some sweet moments when Valery found love with Eddie, a strength of purpose beyond helping Kwan since that journey has ended, and someone to care for since her family has all passed away. Along with the relationship between Valery is Sam and Kwan although their relationship is put on hold. It makes me sad to see they both have such respect and love towards each other. But both know that starting a relationship during such a hard time must wait for a better future.

I was impressed at just how much of a difference these young adults had made in the world. If it were not for them giving up everything they had, the world would have ended up in chaos.

In the end, most of the loose ends are tied up and ultimately the reader is left with hope.

I’ve had pets my whole life and loved them all dearly. Losing them is difficult to be sure. But sometimes, you have one that’s extra special…and losing them is a bit like losing a child, or a limb and mourning them is deep, dark and difficult and it’s something you feel a little silly about or feel as if you shouldn’t hurt so much. After all, it’s JUST a pet, right?

I wish I’d had this book five years ago when I lost the dog of my heart. I still miss her every day, and her unexpected death sent me into a tailspin that I felt I had no right to be in. She was a dog. How do you justify that? This book helps you do just that. I admit to crying most of the way through, but it was the good kind of crying, those cathartic tears that heal as they are shed.

The book does two things: it shares the author’s own struggle with loss and the feeling that her deep grief was unacceptable. And it validates and helps other pet owners deal with their own loss, through shared stories and journal entries. I didn’t participate in all the journaling, but I did do the ones I needed to and it helped. Somehow, having a person I didn’t even know tell me it was okay to feel this deeply about a pet was what I needed to finally start working through those unresolved feelings. She validated me and my feelings, and the entire book was a virtual hug.

I loved this book. I want to buy copies for all my friends who are pet parents to give to them when their time of need comes. I can’t recommend it enough.

If you are like me and you love reading second chance romance stories, you will be captivated by this slow burn story involving a good looking football player and a sweet country singer.

I loved everything about this feel good, emotional story. Brock and Emmy were madly in love as teenagers, but they broke up over a misunderstanding. They are brought back together when they both volunteer for the same charity.

Brock and Emmy are so easy to like, but their story broke my heart and I wanted them to finally get the HEA they deserve. They are meant to be together and hopefully, this time, everything will work out. Unfortunately, people seem to continually get in the way. Brock and Emmy are perfect for each other but before they can have another chance at love, they have to sift through all the lies. There is an underlying sexual tension every time Brock and Emmy are together, but they still have lingering hurt feelings and are afraid to put themselves out there again.

Brock is totally swoony, he is charming and nice and an all around good guy. Even though he is one of the most successful players in the league, Brock has insecurities, which hold him back from showing his true feelings. What I loved most about Brock, is how protective he is of Emmy. He has always loved her and for him, there is no one else to compare with her.

Emmy and her family are famous country music stars but unfortunately, her family has a lot of dysfunction. Emmys biggest fault is that she is too sweet and trusting and because of that, she trusts the wrong people. Even though Brock broke her heart years ago, when Emmy sees him again, she can’t help what her heart feels.

This is a heartwarming story with witty dialogue and I especially loved all the banter between the three King siblings. They love to give each other a hard time, but they always have each other’s back.

This is the second book in the Kings of Country series and highly recommend this captivating story. My only disappointment was that the story ended so quickly.

Oh my gosh, I have to start my review by talking about the heroine, Madison. I completely related to her in every way. Seriously, this book could have been written about my years in high school. I nearly died laughing throughout the entire story at the similarities between Madison and me. The connection I felt with Madison started on the first page and didn’t stop there. I couldn’t wipe the smile off of my face. I’m still sitting here shaking my head, still beaming with a quirky smile. I thought I was the only person on earth that had a crush on a boy for all four years in high school, yet couldn’t even look or speak to him without hyperventilating while turning beet red. It was painful. Technically Madison is a book character, so I may still be the only human who, to this day, probably wouldn’t be able to form two words if I ran into my high school crush. This element alone in the story made my day and leaves me no choice but to recommend this book.

Honestly, the entire cast of characters were hilarious. Madison’s four-year-old nephew, Taggert, was a hoot. As a retired preschool teacher and a mother of two boys, I can testify that the author was accurate regarding a preschooler’s favorite food, to the innocent yet inappropriate comments a four old can make, and the shenanigans they can get themselves into. Taggert’s dad, Jim, had me roaring regarding his cooking skills. I could go on and on but I suggest the book is worth the read just to meet all the other characters.

Just so you know, not all the characters made me feel warm and fuzzy. There was one named Pilar who consistently stirred the pot. Pilar was unlikable and I would have guiltily enjoyed seeing her suffer far more than she did because of all the trouble she caused. However, the story would not have been as entertaining as it was without Pilar.

The heroine, Ryder Sanders, was so much like my high school crush I could barely take it. The chemistry between Ryder and Madison was very romantic. I looked up my high school crush on Facebook and actually found him. He was bald with a dad-bod. I’m pretty sure, despite his aging, I’d probably still not be able to form two coherent sentences. LOL! I’m so glad that Madison had her happily ever after with Ryder.

Concerning all the technical writing, plot creativeness, plot flow, predictability versus plot twists and everything else, I was impressed with all of it. I especially enjoyed the time of year that it took place in. Christmas is my favorite season.

I don’t have any qualms recommending Tangled in Tinsel. If fact, I think the book would make a great Christmas gift.
