I enjoyed this second short story in Melissa Kendall’s Castle Wolves series. It was a steamy fun paranormal romp that had plenty of feeling to go along with the sexy times.

The first book of this shifter series featured Garth the Alpha of the Castle Wolves pack, and we were also introduced to his best friend and right hand man, Brute. This is Brute’s story where he finally reveals his feelings for Garth’s little sister, Elizabeth. We find out why he waited so long to make his move on Lizzie and how hard it was to be the kind of mate she needed. There were a few climactic scenes where the conflict exploded but for the most part this story was dominated by some incredibly hot sex scenes.

I liked Brute and Elizabeth. They had great chemistry together and their sex scenes were incendiary. This story was also something different for me as the reader. I haven’t read many stories where the heroine is a Domme but I have to say that I found myself enjoying this one. I liked the BDSM aspect, especially. I liked how the author showed their vulnerable sides as well.

All in all, this short story was well written and I read it at a super fast pace. As with the first book, the author ended it a bit abruptly, so there was a spot of disappointment with that. I would have liked more resolution between Brute and Garth but that won’t keep me from reading the next book. I assume it will be Mason and look forward to his story.

The first two things that caught my eye about Doris O’Connor’s latest release, His Prize, was the blurb and the super sexy cover. I knew from the start that this was a dark romance, so I was expecting a hero that wasn’t too nice and some possible scenes where I’d cringe.

O’Connor didn’t disappointment. His Prize is dark, but not to the point of unpleasant.

The hero, Ren, was even in his role as a killer, appealing. He was rough, mean, and yet, strangely sexy.

Susie was twenty years younger than Ren and though she was not a bad heroine, she could have been better. Her naivety tended toward nerve grating at times. Also, the fact that she fell in love with the hero so fast (mere hours after meeting him) because she submitted to him so easily made her attempts at having a backbone a bit pointless. I did like the fact that she was a voluptuous young woman.

There is no doubt that Doris O’Connor knows how to write sex. The relationship between the characters was sexually scorching. Their chemistry is off the charts. However, just as this was great, I did miss a stronger emotional connection between Ren and Susie. O’Connor tells us that the characters are in love, (Susie even mentions that Ren is tender with her and we glimpse some of that in the story), but it would have been nicer to read how the relationship developed. In the end, I felt that they were united by sexual drive and not so much by emotions.

Finally, I particularly enjoyed the nail biting twist near the end. It came unexpectedly, and for a moment, I doubted about how it would play out.

His Prize, was a short, enjoyable, extremely hot, dark romance read. I’ll definitely be looking forward to some more books in the series.

I’m always a sucker for an assassin-style of story, and this one was no exception. Darke is a mysterious character, one who does the dirty, thankless but necessary task of taking out the bad guys by becoming one himself. Astrid is a lot more complicated than I originally thought and this really pleased me. Her history with Darke is well explained over the course of the book and I was really excited to see them not only reunited, but also watch them discover each other almost like it was brand new again.

I was a little disappointed with what I felt was an over-indulgence with the dirty talk. I like a bit of smut and harder language when the situation or characters call for it, but in much of this short story I really felt like it was added either for shock value, or just to make the sex appear “edgier”. It fell a little flat for me, personally, and I found myself cringing at the harder language because I hadn’t been convinced by either the story-line nor the characters that it was needed. Unnecessary swearing (like multiple words in consecutive sentences) just made the writing seem less realistic to me and felt rather like overkill.

Right near the end of the book there are some very faint overtures of BDSM. A part of me really wished that this had been more fully explored throughout the book. Darke simply calling himself a Dom and Astrid his sub – and having a very brief spanking scene – didn’t really leave me feeling like they were involved in a fully fledged BDSM relationship, nor that Darke was a hard-core Dominant. While the story is definitely short, I really feel that (as an erotic romance story) since the BDSM element was introduced it would have made far more sense for it to be explored in more depth. This would have made it feel far more realistic to me – rather than just be a few words and spanks and calling a very small bit of kink a full-on BDSM relationship.

With plenty of twists and turns in the plot I think this should keep most readers guessing right to the end. The characters of Darke and Astrid in particular were quite different – refreshingly so – and I found there was more than enough excitement to keep me turning the pages. An interesting and different style of story with a great relationship and some interesting sex scenes.

Considering that burn is why Sadie–a nurse–was sent to be his follow-up care giver, the point felt critical to the plot for me and it niggled that it felt too much like a setup. Had the circumstances of Dax getting the burn been just a little more detailed (was his jacket faulty? Did he need to hold the beam for a long period of time to protect the girl he saved?) I could have happily moved on and not felt like the burn was simply a convenience to throw Dax and Sadie together again.

While the spanking scenes are hot, I found it refreshing that the BDSM in this story was more about the mindset of a Dom/sub type of relationship. Spanking and some deliciously naughty sex outside in semi-public areas were the only kinks sexually speaking, but I enjoyed looking a little deeper into Dax’s mindset as a Dominant and what he felt a submissive mindset could entail. Readers unsure about BDSM or who usually don’t like much of it in their erotic romance might find this story still very interesting as it’s more mind-based not whips-and-chains-sex based.

I also really enjoyed the characters. I loved Sadie and was deeply curious about Dax and the secrets he hid. There’s a fair bit of Sadie’s fellow dare best friends (all happily settled from previous stories) and found despite picking this book up cold – without the previous installments – I followed along quite easily. Apart from getting some of the boyfriends/friends mixed up I had no trouble enjoying Sadie and Dax’s story for being just theirs and not necessarily a part of a larger whole.

I found this to be a lovely short story, hot and well written with just enough kink and plot to keep me happily turning the pages and very satisfied with a happy ending.

I found this a fresh take on the more traditional style of vampires. While much of the world and mythology is similar to the normal style everyone knows, I loved how the book itself focused strongly on Aaron learning the ropes of vampirism. Beau takes on the role of mentor and it was interesting to effectively learn alongside Aaron. Elements of the BDSM lifestyle were closely woven in with more common vampire lore – feeding and avoiding sunlight/lasers etc. And I was delighted by the slightly rough edge Beau had. No sparkly vampires or lacy, flouncy silk shirts here!

At a few points early in the book I worried that Aaron was slightly too dependent upon Beau. While I loved how Mr Michael explained very thoroughly how weak, young and new Aaron was – so this dependency really made sense and was completely logical, Aaron’s level of reliance on Beau was deeply submissive. I have to admit though I really enjoyed watching Aaron flourish and grow strong – not just as a vampire, but also as a man and in his relationship with Beau. The pacing was near perfect for me. Slow, gradual and both men needed to work hard and earn it all. This made the whole story a real delight to me and one I know I will thoroughly enjoy reading many times to come.

This is the first of a series, and I really enjoyed the paranormal world Mr Michael has created. There were a number of very strong secondary characters who I presume will be showcased in future books. Aaron and Beau’s relationship was primary throughout the entire book and while they did find a semi-regular human man to feed from (Geoff – I dearly hope his book is one of the upcoming ones) and the feeding was fairly sexual (the M/M/M listed above) this is not a traditional ménage or a committed part to Aaron and Beau’s relationship. Aaron and Beau care for Geoff, enjoy him and feed from him, but they’re not a threesome in a relationship way. Personally, I’m hoping this leaves the door open for Geoff’s own story. Similarly – I’d love to read a story about Beau’s two siblings.

Though the characters knew each other in their youth, I found the romance between them a little bit too fast paced and hard to believe. Furthermore, though Ms. McAllan does a great job in building the sexual tension, and BDSM is present at the core of the story, in this particular book, its presence is very light.

One thing worth mentioning though is the little mystery introduced into the story. In this book, we still don’t know who the owner of the white van snooping around Diomhair is. Definitely something I’ll be looking to find out in future books.

Secrets Dispatched is a sweet, sexy read with a tinge of mystery.

The first thing needed to be said is that this definitely can be categorized as a stand alone book. I have yet to read the first and second book in the series and I wasn’t confused at all. The story is about a boss, his employee and their attraction and the ensuing circumstances that put them together. Talk about hot! Holy moly, it’s steamy!

Kelsey and Nathan are different from each other but somehow when they got together they were the perfect couple. Nathan is a lot of things–including a Dom. He knows what he wants and takes it. No one tells this boss no. When he realizes his new employee signed for the BDSM club he co-owns, he wants her to himself. Like I said, he doesn’t take no for an answer.

From there starts a relationship, somewhat hectic because of their professional relationship, but that part just showed more of the characters to me–like how much independent Kelsey is or how dedicated Nathan is. The love he has not only for his business but for the family as well shined right through.

This is a steamy read that should not be missed.

Wow. I really loved this book! With four main plots threading delicately together this has plenty going on. It’s a testament to Mr. Michael’s writing skills though that no couple/group gets either overlooked or dwelled on too long. I found the pacing of both the story and the relationships between the couples/groups to be amazing.

Guard, Damien and James run a small island resort for a very select clientele – they allow their clients a safe and welcoming environment where their deepest sexual fantasies can come true. The three men have also been in a ménage relationship until James was hurt. I loved how even though they, themselves aren’t their own clients – their fantasy of getting back together and starting fresh was also clearly one of the longer-term plot arcs. Guard and James are the first characters we’re introduced to – setting up the various fantasies that are about to take place – and I was immediately drawn into their story, curious at the threesome breaking up but also eager for their reunion since it’s so obvious their love is still strong.

There is effectively three proper short stories going on in this book – as well as Guard, Damien and James as a peripheral storyline. While I don’t personally feel there was any “forced seduction” in these fantasties, in a few places the story was being told from the Dom’s perspective. In two instances the Dom/sub pairings were brand new – only having known each other for their time on the island/resort – so the reluctance shown by the subs could potentially be construed as “forced seduction”. There was always safewords though, and never any play rough enough that I felt bordered on abuse – but there is a very fine line between being truly forcing someone and one partner being reluctant in a safe scene. Personally – I feel with the safewords and genuine care shown between all the partners this shouldn’t be on the wrong side of that line, but some of the scenes are quite heavy/emotional and without knowing for a fact the sub is loving every second (ie being told from their point of view) I felt this was worth mentioning. Readers should also know that there is a knife play scene (sensations from the knife – not playing with the blood or full-on harm occurring), and a few medical examination style scenes (sounds, enemas and the like).

All up while there is plenty of fantasy-come-to-life scenes that might push various buttons, I found everything was written in good taste and as sensually as any more regular kinky, erotic story. I particularly enjoyed the characters and loved the different dynamics between couples both brand new and more established. While there might be triggers or parts of scenes that some readers might not find too erotic, I feel this is an excellent book to showcase some of the rarer kinks in a tasteful and safe environment. And just as the icing on the cake – all the fantasy plotlines were resolved with very happy and satisfied endings. There’s also clear hooks for both the next story and for the continuing relationship between Damien, James and Guard. I really enjoyed this and would strongly recommend it if readers are curious about “non-standard” types of kink. A lovely read.

I love both the characters of Peter and Christian and seeing how they came to be together was a pleasure.

As usual for a Sean Michael book, the sex is blisteringly hot. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and found this book particularly lovely as Christian is not only untried in the BDSM lifestyle, but also a virgin in the more physical sense. I loved how special Peter made their first time and how well he handled Christian and his struggle against himself and his own desires. I thought it was delightfully clear that Peter cared about Christian from the start and had true patience to help lead Christian where they both wanted to go – instead of just ordering him around and dictating. The fact Peter was the Master in the relationship would have made it far too easy for him to simply order and Christian obey. I found the story far richer and deeper for the fact Peter had patience and supported Christian as he worked through his own feelings and demons.

This book was solely focused on Peter and Christian – not any of the other aspects of the Beer and Clay world. While I didn’t mind this, some readers and fans of the series might find it disappointing that there’s no reference or cameos from the other main characters. Of course this also means readers who haven’t read the other Beer and Clay books can certainly pick this up and not be at all lost – this is absolutely a “stand alone” book and indeed could be read as an excellent introduction or “prequel” into the Beer and Clay series.

Steamy hot sex with a lovely bit of kink to it, two wonderful men and strong characters and a whole lot of love make this a wonderful story and one I will happily reread many times to come. Recommended.
