Eden is far from your typical teen girl. She has to deal with two absent parents, even though they all live under the same roof. Her mother is too concerned with her own selfish needs, and her father will do whatever it takes to avoid having to deal with his home life. My heart immediately when out to Eden because she was forced to not only take care of herself at a young age, but also felt she needed to take care of her parents one way or another. In the end, her parents recklessness and selfish behavior leads to tragedy.

Wow, this story took me on an amazing, emotion filled ride. I was stunned as to how quickly the story ended once I began. While the story is targeted towards young adults, I would certainly recommend this to other age groups because there is a lot that will appeal to them and it is truly entertaining. I found the story even challenging some of my beliefs of the afterlife because the author wrote such a convincing story. I sometimes find it difficult to find stories that both myself and my child would enjoy. Until We Meet Again certainly fits the bill, that is why I can honestly and happily give this story the highest rating possible.

Big Creek might be a stereotypical small town but even they have drama.

Just as Heather and the Sheriff are getting ready to be brave enough to date, Gus comes between him. Heather wants to protect him; Bronson must follow the law. The dance of love in this story has a few missteps but they keep dancing.

Ms. Daniel’s words flow well, I could see the small Texas town in my mind as I read the story, and just reading about the events at the weeklong fair is enough to make you chuckle. Have you ever heard of Cow Chip Bingo? You need to get this book and read it so you can learn about this main event and learn about old Gus’ fate. You also need to read it because it will make you laugh and it’s a fun read. Thanks for a good read, Ms. Daniels.

Karen King has created a richly detailed society which is all too believable and definitely truly horrible. Morgan is a typical fifteen-year-old girl, worried about makeup and boys, but she truly loves her three-year-old brother. I found myself caught up in their search, fighting along side them every step of the way, as the mystery surrounding the kidnappings deepens.

Perfect Summer is a real coming-of-age story with a heroic quest. Fans of fantasy will assuredly enjoy following Morgan and her friends as they race to find the kidnapped children. This is an action-packed adventure from start to finish.

Wendy Knight has written a fast-paced action story with very believable and real characters. Ari has had to live a life without friends. No one can find out who she is, so she keeps everyone away from her. She has to drop everything every time her grandfather summons her to do battle again and she is very tired of the killing. When she starts her senior year at yet another boarding school, she discovers people who actually want to get to know her and be friends. And then there is Shane, the most popular boy in the school. I found Shane to be very likeable as well. He is kind and he has the girls all swooning over him, but he doesn’t let that go to his head. He spends his time with his cousin, Charity, and his best friend, Hunter, trying to led a normal life even though he is actually the Carules’ Prodigy.

There are many wonderful characters in this book and there are also, of necessity, some really horrible ones. The leaders of both groups of sorcerers are determined to keep the war going for their own financial profits. Ari, Shane, Charity, and Hunter have to make some very tough decisions, helped by Ari’s older brother, Will, who is one of the renegade sorcerers, those who have refused to fight any more.

This story is a real page-turner with lots of action and intrigue. But even more than that, there is a depth to the story which makes it much more than just a story about a feuding war. It is a coming-of-age story which is handled realistically and compassionately. The only problem I have with this novel is that it is the first in a series (Fate on Fire), and while it does end in a reasonable spot, I can’t wait to read the next book. I hope it is published soon!

R. R. Smythe has done a marvelous job of bringing to life the story of Louisa May Alcott and her family. The entire time period is captured including the Battle of Gettysburg. Beth has re-created a house in Gettysburg to match the Alcott home and she gives tours of the house and the battlefield. Mia and Morgan both work for Beth. Part of the tours involve the Underground Railroad tunnels, but after Mia’s surgery and Morgan’s arrival, the tunnels begin acting strangely. Mia is drawn into a mystery she never dreamed of, where there are caretakers for the tunnels and these caretakers are governed strictly to be sure they don’t violate any of the rules surrounding the use of the tunnels.

I really like Mia and I think her recovery after the transplant surgery seems very real. Mia used to be very active, horseback riding, being a cheerleader, and so forth, until her heart disease prevented any exertions at all. Now, as she is recovering, she realizes that many of the activities which she loved are gone forever. The loss of her former life would be a blow to anyone, but for someone who is just a senior in high school, it is a daunting prospect to have to adjust to. In addition to learning about her new heart and what she can and can’t do, Mia also has the added genetic changes and the memories she experiences as vivid dreams. I found Mia’s adjustments to be realistic and very human. I could feel her pain, her frustration, and her bewilderment.

I also like Morgan and Beth who have their own problems which they have to adjust to as well. They hold secrets and it quickly becomes clear to them that Mia is discovering those secrets on her own. An entire literary world unfolds as the story races forward, and it is exciting to see how the characters change and interact as the events unfold.

Readers of historical fiction, especially about the American Civil War and the literary figures from that time period, are sure to enjoy this novel about Louisa May Alcott and her descendants.

Their initial love/hate relationship changes when they join forces and face the designs of others with a united front until a misunderstanding tears them apart.

The people, their feelings and their humor and anger are all real. I could see the annoyance on Bridget’s face and the desperation of Anthony. The minor characters are also extremely humorous. Anthony’s friends delight in teasing him while Bridget’s aunt thinks all men are attracted to her, not her niece.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I like Regency novels but they often become very much a variation on the same theme. This one is different. It takes a situation which in our era could result in various unsavory responses and instead sets it in the more genteel era of Regency.

Applause to the authors for a well written novel.

This opening for Spider Brains captured my attention immediately. I was hooked. Susan Wingate has written a wonderful novel told in the first person by a high school student named Susie Speider. Susie is a wonderful girl, and Wingate has really captured the voice of adolescence. The plot is amusing and at the same time deals with some very important and difficult topics in ways that draw the reader in. As Susie tells her story, after being bitten by a small black spider, she develops the ability to turn into a spider when she is asleep. Riding on the back of her cat, Delilah, she visits the teacher who is making her life so miserable.

I feel that I really understand Susie and I like her, and I love her enthusiasm for words and their power. She has a lot to cope with. In addition to the two main issues she mentions in the opening of this novel, she also is still grieving for her father who died nearly a year earlier. A geeky boy named Matt and his father move into the house across the street and then Susie has to tutor him. Wingate supports Susie with a number of strong characters. Matt is very likeable and he, too, is coping with grief and bullying. And then there is their science teacher, Ms. Morlson, who obviously plays favorites in the worst possible way. She is every student’s worst nightmare.

The plot moves back and forth in time, but never by much and it is always clear where we are. The scenes where Susie is a spider in Ms. Morlson’s home are inspired. The grief of both Susie and her mom and Matt and his dad is handled realistically and with great compassion and empathy. The issue of privacy is approached as Susie’s mother insists on her right to read Susie’s diary when Susie starts acting strangely. Teacher-student interactions are explored so that the student’s side is heard. Finally, the use of medications and their possible side-effects also become part of the plot.

I think this is a novel that many teens would love. Universal themes are treated in a very direct and also a very humorous way. The first person voice of Susie works extremely well and we are definitely in her head throughout the entire novel. The language is distinctively hers, and she speaks directly to her reader, going so far as to tell the reader, “’Member? Please track.” This is truly a book to enjoy and savor.

The two fifth graders are best friends, and when Sebastian gets it into his head to explore, Sara reluctantly follows. They find themselves in another plane of existence where elves, mermaids, gnomes and other mythological creatures live. This book is contemporary and historical as the present day Andrea Devon gets flashbacks to the life of the ghost in her house, Anna.

Andrea and her husband John’s dreams come true when they move to a small town and buy a wonderful old house. Weird things begin to happen and Andrea investigates the past to find out what happened to the original owner of the house.

I enjoyed reading this book and trying to solve the mystery. I urged Andrea not to be taken in by her dreams, I wanted her to stand up to her husband, and most of all to let her own self shine through. In the beginning I found her to be a reasonably strong woman, but as the story progressed I became more and more irritated by her husband who seemed to be domineering and always wanted his own way.

Andrea seemed to let things slide as she became more caught up in her dreams and research. Fair enough John had a right to get irritable, but I thought he was more worried about how Andrea’s moods affected him, rather than what was making her so unhappy and moody. One more negative I found in the final few pages. I’m not going to put in a spoiler, but I would have preferred a different ending as the story seemed to finish up in the air.

Nevertheless these were minor irritations to be pushed to one side as the main story evolved around Andrea. She became a very real person to me and as mentioned above I was cheering her on all the way, or urging her not to take another step in a particular direction. I have to admit I did guess some of the outcome, but my guess could just as easily have been wrong so I had to read on to find out the truth. I love the way Andrea manipulated those around her when she really wanted something. A lovely main character, with the story fitting round her like a glove.

The plot does jump between several story lines, and I found this a bit confusing, no doubt because I hadn’t read the earlier two books. That being said, I was more than happy to keep reading and let the pieces fill themselves in as I went along. There are still some gaps in my knowledge of this world, but overall, it came together. The plot usually moves along at a good pace, but there are some spots that are a big sluggish. However, it never got bogged down so that I didn’t want to continue.

Having three main protagonists as well as a number of near protagonists resulted in my never getting close to any of them. But each of the characters is distinct and interesting and the relationships between them are convincing. In addition to having to help save the world and rescue artifacts, these teens also have to go to school and deal with the usual teenage issues of relationships, parents, teachers, and so forth. Jenkins handles these topics with empathy and kindness.

Overall, I enjoyed this novel. I think fans of science fiction will find it to be a fun read, and I suspect that it will be even better if the earlier two books are read first.
