He talked a bit more about numbers than I wanted to read about but the tale was good enough to keep me reading.

Victoria starts by trying to help her cop friend’s ex-boyfriend. He’s gotten in over his head and wants help to get out but he’s not telling her the whole story. He works in the office where there has been a suicide recently. It was put down to stress in the office but Victoria is not sure. Especially after she talks to his boyfriend and his parents. The man was quitting his job and getting ready to move. He wouldn’t commit suicide…

Greed leads people into bad places. Some people think they are smarter than they are. That all comes into play in this story.

Our states are still fighting about the equality of men and women but China is still stuck a century back or so. Victoria has to use her fighting skills to keep from being man-handled. The fact that she was visiting with the gay man involved with the “suicide” victim gets her almost raped. However, it turns out the man who was trying to rape her just happened to work at the same company as the “suicide” did. She uses that clue to dig further into the case.

This is complex case but Victoria works her way through it and keeps your attention as she asks more and more questions.

Even when they know who attacked a young black girl, nothing can be done. They have solid alibis even if they are lies. Life starts to get dangerous in the ‘hood. When the next girl shows up dead, the case ramps up. While Erica is concerned about the girls, she also dealing with two oldsters who lived in the neighborhood in the time period she’s researching. One of them asks her to find out what happened to her brother. The two ladies are good friends but they fight as much as they get along.

This is a good look at what things are like in the poorer sections of town. Nowadays it happens in the heart of the city as well. Everyone is searching for power, money, and more. The story is good, the motives are mixed and the killer was a surprise. This isn’t any happily ever after but it is life. I’d read another in this series.

When Maisie gets a chance to go undercover, she’s excited! Here’s the opportunity to excel at something her father can’t stop. It’s also easy to keep it a secret because she’s still working as a meter maid during the day. Her only concern was that Hank said he wouldn’t sleep with a cop and she’s not sure how long she can hide it from him.

Only Maisie could be the target of a hitman and get saved by gangster. The Serbian man is involved in a lot of schemes but he likes her spirit. When she has to spy on him, she hates it. She likes him a lot. He’s gay, so it’s no threat to her relationship with Hank. Then a photographer puts their picture on Facebook and her brothers see it and forward it to Hank.

There’s a lot going on that Maisie doesn’t understand. A lot of Hank’s life is a secret. It’s a good thing he’s working on saving her, because she needs it.

This author writes well and keeps your interest all the way through the story. Her characters are unforgettable. There’s another book in this series coming out in 2016 and I’ll be watching for it. Maisie’s life is getting more and more interesting and I want to see what’s going to happen next.

This story is smooth and roots through the issue of a broken heart and trying to make a new beginning. The author shows a good insight at family relationships and romantic rebounds.

Jenny suddenly finds that Quincy is more than just a good friend. But she’s afraid she’s just rebounding. Quincy is afraid maybe she still loves Paxton. Somebody needed to take them in for a good sit down talk about life. The family tried but we all know how that goes. When Jenny almost loses her dad, it shakes her up. It also shows her who stands by her.

Paxton comes back. This was the best part of the book to me. It’s where everyone finally has to grow up. This is a sweet cowboy romance with a big magic thrown in. It’s a good read.

He gets involved because the deaths are similar to the ones committed by a killer he put in prison. The first three look like copycat crimes, then the pattern changes. The new killer has other little quirks. He’s just as deadly, though.

Before the book is done, there are three killers involved, all them insane, and it’s Jack and Beth trying to take them down. It’s hard to do with little evidence and unknown assailants. But if they aren’t quick, they will become the next victims.

The ending is breathtaking and you can’t stop reading. The killer has Beth. Can Jack get there in time? I liked the story, the historical references of previous serial killers, the budding romance between Jack and Beth, and how they confess their secrets to each other. A good relationship begins with a level of trust. That’s why the ending of the story was made me so anxious… recommended.

Marta was his housekeeper. She worked for many others. Most didn’t like her much. Maybe someone hated her. It’s when he finds out she had another side than the one he saw that he learns she had some secrets. She liked to drink, she liked to gamble, and she dressed for the part. Was that what got her killed?

This author has a way of drawing you in while showing you the secrets of families and friends. Most everyone in the story has a secret somewhere. He shows you that the death of a man she thought she was in love with was a big issue in her life. She kept trying to find him even after he moved. She was almost obsessed. What she finds by mistake gets her killed but that’s a mystery until the end.

The story is paced well, the clues he bleeds into the story keep you reading, and almost every character within is touched some way by this murder and the people involved. It was an interesting read.

The author does an amazing job of character development. There are a lot of players in this story but they are all interesting and it takes all their skills to determine Chester was murdered and who the killer was. I found myself caring about them all. I even enjoyed Mae’s four dogs.

Mae helps Sheriff Ben with his cases. She’s good at getting people to talk to her. When you add in a doctor and coroner and all the folks from the cop shop, Ben has a real good team. He’ll need it for this case. There’s a lot of action in this read and it all flows well. Ben has to sort out what he finds out and figure out what’s important and what’s not.

The old man knew he was getting close to death. He had made his will leaving the majority of his wealth to his two sons. When Chester died, he changed his will. The oldest son is trying to contest it after his father’s natural death. Was it one of the two inheritors that killed Chester? Who else would have cared about him?

There are secrets in everybody’s closet in this story. The author stayed ahead of me. I had one suspect, then another. It isn’t until the very end you get the motivation of the killer. This is a fast paced cozy that keeps your attention all the way through. I’ll be watching for more in this series.

As if things weren’t bad enough, Rose’s older sister Violet is going through a mid-life crisis. As she races off to report in, she has to call work, find a place to park, get money for the meter and jog to the courthouse. Unfortunately, she has no change. The flower shop won’t give her change, she has to buy a flower to get it. Then she gets a parking ticket while she’s in the flower shop. To add to her wonderful morning, she can’t use the women’s toilet because it’s being cleaned, so she sneaks in the men’s. She has a vision and hears a conversation in there she wishes she hadn’t.

You can see the author’s humor and feel Rose’s frustration and embarrassment. She’s new at love, wants to help the innocent jailed man, and can’t decide if she wants to move away from home. With all this going on and Rose fumbling along, it’s a fun read. It’s busy, odd things happen in court and away, and the murderer is coming after Rose. She’s trying to figure out love, learning to be friends with a male attorney and has found a girlfriend at the courthouse. Now she just to keep herself together. Rose is good at solving murders. Now if she can just learn how to do the best for herself… I can’t wait to read the next one in this series.

This story digs deep into the historical importance of Kierkiegaard’s work. It was almost too much detail for me. It also dwells on Asperger’s Syndrome. I found that much more interesting. Some of the symptoms of Daniel are the same as my own. That’s because I can be an introvert at times. With Daniel, it was a way of life.

The only way Daniel could hold a job was to focus on his task. He translated meticulously and accurately. He worked alone and had to make himself socialize. He couldn’t carry on a conversation and had trouble understanding a joke or why one he told wasn’t funny. But he doesn’t believe the director planned to die. Since he was almost the last one to see her live, the police come into his life and he has to turn in the shoes he was wearing (he fell down the stairs and hit the wall with his shoes) and he had to give them his DNA. He wasn’t excited about having the swab taken, but he did it.

This story goes way back. Daniel was once briefly engaged to the victim. He knows the family has a secret but he doesn’t know what it is. When he visits a bank deposit box to see what she has left him, it’s his translation of the manuscript and an amber necklace from long ago. His love from his past has left him a message.

This is complex tale with lots of players and various self-interests. There are secrets that have the power to hurt. It begins with a mother’s death, then the son commits suicide and the case gets even more intense. The author does a good job of offering hints and information all along the way. Some are more obvious than others. The ending was interesting and not something you could see forthcoming. It’s well worth a read, especially if you like history.

He sends her to help a new officer in homicide. The officer is gay and it doesn’t take long for the other boys to find out. They call him the Rainbow Dick. He’s a good cop, will do as he’s told, and he’s on Claire’s side. She might be the token female but he’s also the token gay cop.

The more they interview people, the less they know. This is a complicated plot with lots of players. The author weaves the story, picks up another thread and weaves in and I ended up with no idea who the killer was. At the end I was beginning to suspect one of them but the other one flabbergasted me. What some people will do for money amazes me.

The story flows well, the mix of people is amazing, and greed and lust walk among them. Ms. Smith makes the story believable even if it’s unpredictable. You’ll meet a lot of unethical people in this book. The sad truth is there are a lot of them in the world nowadays. At least the author gives them their comeuppance in this story. If only you could do that in real life.
