This is a police procedural that leads the detectives into a worm hole of the poor and indigent and Russian illegals. The boy they found was not currently missing. The homeless didn’t see anything or won’t talk about it if they did. They begin looking for a child who could have been injured enough to lose his spleen. What they find takes them to the Russians. It’s a good thing the new female detective can speak some Russian or they’d have had to find a translator. Again, no one wants to talk to them. When they find out who the child is, he’s been missing for two years. Where has he been?

The pace is steady, the mystery keeps twisting around and you keep turning the pages to see what new clue will show up. This case relates to an old unsolved one but no one will know that until the end.

The description of the Russians and how they lived and the places the homeless lived was depressing. It’s especially sad how the boy ended up where he did. Sometimes life is not kind.

Watching the police work, wondering about the killer, and rooting for the team of detectives came naturally. There are romantic problems just to keep your interest. The story already had mine.

Here’s an unusual mystery with even more unusual motive. If you like mysteries, you need to read this one.

This author’s words sing from the pages. It’s hard to take historical fact and make an interesting book but Ms. Goodwin has done just that. It feel like you are reading a Regency romance but it’s more impressive because it’s about the real Queen Victoria.

She has several successes in her life, but she’s not doing so well in love. She’s grown quite fond of her Prime Minister. He helps her find humor, makes meals a pleasure with her family, and goes on horse rides with her. When he learns she’s getting a little too fond of him, he tries to distance himself. He’s too old for her, but he’s fond of her, too. Sometimes you can’t have the one you love but you don’t forget them.

Her mother and her friend are trying to set her up with her cousin. She thinks he’s a lump and is not impressed. Of course, she last saw him three years ago and he’s a bit better with age. He still doesn’t hold a candle to the Prime Minister. And, being Queen, she’s the one who has to propose.

While she rules a country she loves and tries to help everyone around her, she also manages to get rid of her mother’s lover (who is against her) and she works out who and why she should marry.

This is history that is alive in the retelling. Ms. Goodwin’s words flow well, the story is well told and it’s very enjoyable to read. Victorian times weren’t boring.

My favorite part of this story is watching Dixie mature. She appears braver then she is, most people thinks she’s fearless. She just doesn’t want them to think of her as weak. Weak women end up dead like her mother. I also enjoyed her father’s ghost visiting with her. She needs guidance and he’s there to help. They argue a lot but it’s amusing. Her father is right for the most part.

There’s a budding romance where she won’t ask him to stay and he won’t kiss her until she’s ready. She deals with Indians, a Chinese cook and his family, and soiled doves. The girls come to be ranch hands, learn to shoot, deal with animals and more. She even invites a retired buffalo soldier to be her foreman. Defending her property and animals and herself from danger turns out to be a challenge.

This is a tale that will keep you reading and hoping all the way through. I’d be happy to find more about Dixie Dandelion. After all, now she’s going to be a Pinkerton Agent.

It’s an entertaining read (do you want to survive by eating lizards?) and it’s also sweet. The ending made me happy. It’s a good thing they talk to each other. This was a feel good story and I liked it.

Mr. Swanson writes a good tension-filled suspense story. He probes the minds of those who think evil thoughts. Kate was unfortunate in her life but her cousin also had a back story. He thought he’d put it behind him, but it wasn’t true. He might have left his old friend behind, but his old friend wasn’t through with him yet…

As she arrives at his apartment, she notices a lady knocking on the door of the woman across the hall. She says she didn’t show up for work and isn’t answering her phone or emails. Kate is sure she’s dead, but she tells herself not to be silly. When the cops show up and want to search the apartment, she lets them in. Then she wonders if her cousin was the killer.

This is a twisted tale with two insane men at the center of the story. Corbin’s past comes back to life and Kate almost dies from it. The ending is violent and fast. Yet, when all is said and done, Kate still has a life and even a new love. The story is torturous but the ending is sweet.

He won’t be paid but he will get some publicity and he’s hoping his sister will see it.

The story begins with hope, there’s a murder that Ed is accused of, and nothing happens in China without bribes. The backwoods villages have a shortage of women available for marriage so any woman there that has no one to protect or provide for her gets abused. It’s a sad story but Ed does get some justice for the mistreated women.

This look at China is like a visit to the areas they don’t want you to see. There is plenty of non-fiction out there to support Mr. Qiao story. Reading this will make you very happy you live in the US. The story reads smoothly, draws you in and pricks your interest. Just don’t let it give you nightmares.

Anne was pleased to see the detective she’d met on a previous murder case. She had lied to him then, so she know he wasn’t going to resume their friendship as it was in the past. But she was determined to be at least friends and maybe something more.

When another agent is found in dead in his room, the case speeds up. Anne finally remembers what she had forgotten and almost gets herself killed by letting her face give her away.

It’s a fast, exciting read with lots of characters to both love and hate. It’s easy to feel sympathy for Anne who is trying to recapture a lost love, get rid of an unlikeable critique member, and stay alive.

Why not take a walk in the publishing world and see just how cut throat it is?

Alexa was excellent at her job in the FBI. She could get inside the minds of killers and bring them to justice. Her last case was her most dangerous. Playing mind games with a head doctor is challenge at the least. Playing one with an insane man is even worse. Her last case had both those components and she almost lost her life. She’s sure she took his but there was no real proof. The fire burned everything. She’s left the FBI as a result. She just couldn’t handle the stress any more.

The authors do a good job of hooking you in the first few pages and dragging you along through the story. There’s danger everywhere. Alexa has trouble trusting people after her incident. They make you feel her fear and worry.

When the FBI call and ask her to come in because they have a similar case, she wants to say no. But she has a fear that the killer might have survived. She agrees to come in. What she finds is a young boy who witnessed a murder and is scared to death by what he’s seen. She also finds a man with him that she thinks is his father. He’s not, but he’s his protector.

The romance is slow to grow because they both don’t like being vulnerable. They need each other to keep the boy safe and themselves safe. She thinks the killer is after her again and she’s right. She just doesn’t know who the killer is this time.

The suspense doesn’t let up and it’s a fight to the end. They keep attempting to kill her and they almost succeed. This is the beginning of a new series and you can tell they will all be suspenseful and have lots of fast action. This was a very good read.

This is sweet short story that is fun to read. Eric has no experience with children but that’s going to change. Allison has set aside having a love life to raise her two younger brothers and has no time for romance. The author makes every situation sound authentic, the story flows well, and it ends well, too. This is a light read that’s enjoyable and keeps your attention.

When her brothers get in trouble at school, her neighbors aren’t home to help, so she asks Eric for help. He’s not happy about it but he is interested in her so he says yes. When she gets back, he’s covered in paint, has been vomited on and he just runs out of the house, even forgetting his jacket. That’s not a good start for a relationship.

It’s a slow smooth romance that includes lots of children, several challenges and some attitude changing and growing on both sides. Reading about the children’s antics was half the fun.

This is a really pleasant read. Get yourself a cup of coffee or tea, find a comfy chair and read this uplifting story. Ms. Fraser did a very nice job with a full romance in a short story. I’d read more by this author and I think you will, too.

Dakota is an excellent cop but he’s haunted by the death of his younger sister. He wasn’t even in the country when it happened but he still feels guilty. The worst part is that it’s a cold case. It’s worse than cold for him, it’s frozen part of his heart.

Ms. Burton writes suspenseful novels and this is one of her best so far. She makes you wonder how she can imagine a monster so well. Did she have one in her life? Once you start reading her novels, you don’t stop until it’s done. Then you might have to sit and take a few breaths before you return to regular life. Her stories are smoothly done, the horror is real, and the danger gives you chills.

When Tessa, Dakota’s wife, returns from working overseas, she’d like to get back together with him. He tells her he hasn’t changed and what broke them apart before will do it again. Since she’s a medical examiner, she has to work with him. She also plans to work on him.

The newest death is a young man who was found in a dark alley. They believe that it was a drug deal gone bad. The young man was a good boy, but he had a bad father. What makes them wonder about it is the manner of death. It’s almost like a doctor killed him.

Then a woman is found dead and she’s been remade. All her hair has been removed. She’s tattooed as a doll and her wig and clothing are unusual. When she’s identified, she’s part of a group of girls that Tessa and Dakota’s sister hung out in high school. Then they find another one in the same type of tattoos and handmade clothing and she’s another of the group. All of sudden, Dakota has more to worry about than his dead sister…

Ms. Burton, draws you in, gives you pieces of the puzzle from all sides, and manages to scare you to death on the way. Her books are exciting and an excellent read.
