Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl
Back in January, I shared my ten bookish goals for this year.
It’s one of my favorite topics in the Top Ten Tuesday calendar year, so I try to request it every year if the other members of the Long and Short Reviews blogging team are okay with that.
I will repost those goals in this post and group them by Accomplished, In the Works, and Not Yet Started.
Accomplished
- Reread old favorites this winter
- Discover some great new anthologies
- Listen to more audiobooks
- Visit the physical branch of my local library again
I have excelled at all of these this year! It felt so good to visit my local library again. There were some new staff members there that I look forward to getting to know, and I even saw a couple of other patrons who I recognized from previous library events.
In the Works
- Encourage more people to sign up to become reviewers for Long and Short Reviews
- Whittle down my TBR list
- Find some literary or bookish games
- Try some non-gory horror again
These are all works in progress. I’ve spent some time on them but would like to do a lot more if I can.
If you’d like to become a reviewer for Long and Short Reviews, all of the information about how to join can be found in the link above. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
If you have suggestions for the other three in the category, I’d love to hear them!
Not Yet Started
- Play fewer games on my cellphone
- Read a romance novel
I have so not been in the mood for romance so far this year. With all of the smoky days from forest fires we’ve had so far, cell phone games have kept me busy and calm. I’m hoping for a clear, cool, relatively dry autumn that will allow me to put down my electronics and enjoy nature more before winter arrives. Fingers crossed that will happen!
Switching screen time for non-phone activities is definitely something I’d like to work on in 2024. I can -feel- my attention span shrivelling 🫠
Same here, but at least we’re not alone. 🙂
What games distract you on your cellphone? I’ve done Duolingo and enjoyed it, but prefer playing games on the computer to anything else. Even games I have on both (Game Dev Tycoon and Stardew) I never play on my phone.
Oh, so many!
Hungry Hearts (which I reviewed for LASR a few years ago)
Sudoku
Minesweeper
Minecraft
‘King Rabbit
Alba
The Oregon Trail
Royal Match.
I feel like I’m missing a few there, but, yeah. There are tons of amazing games that I really need to spend less time on. Hehe.
I’m trying to go to my local library more, too. It’s nice to be in a space that celebrates reading and books! Congrats on the goals you’ve met so far. I hope you get lots of days of perfect reading weather before the winter sets in. 🙂
Thank you. Fingers crossed!
And, yeah, the atmosphere of a library is the best.
Sounds like you’ve made some great progress on your goals. That’s awesome. 🙂 I hope you find a good rhythm for those you want to improve on yet, too. It’s always fun to see progress on any to-do or goal list. 🙂 Thanks for visiting my website today.
Thank you and you’re welcome. 🙂
I think you have done really well. I am not distracted by games, but I spend too much time looking at articles on the internet. Many may be book related, but somehow it keeps me distracted from what I need to get done.
Thank you. I appreciate that. Yeah, there are a lot of great articles online as well.
I would HIGHLY recommend a RomCom for your romance novel…the humor in them makes for great, light reads!
Ooh, good idea!
I love audiobooks and once you get started, it’s hard to stop. I often pick up a book and then say, why not listen to the audiobook instead? Hope you are able to accomplish these goals!
Thank you. And, yeah, audiobooks can be a lot easier for sure. I love multitasking while I listen to them.
I indulge in a few electronic games as well! I’m still playing Candy Crush 😂 I play a couple of solitaire games and a devote a few minutes to a word game every day. It’s fairly easy for me to limit my game time because I’m always eager to get back to reading! It’s a good brain break and stress reliever to play for a few minutes!
I’m glad to hear that.
Yeah, it’s a great stress reliever for sure.
Great job on these goals!
Thanks. 🙂
It seems like you are achieving your goals well 🙂 I also want whittle down my physical TBR
Thank you. Good luck!
It looks like you’re doing really well on your goals for this year! Way to go. 😀
I appreciate that. 🙂
I would love to review but I don’t know if my writing is good enough. Maybe I will look into that. Good luck on finishing your goals.
They do have training documents and coaching for new reviewers if that helps!
And thanks. 🙂
I love re- reading an old favorite. It’s like visiting an old friend. 🙂
Exactly!
Good luck with your reading goals! Rereading old favorites is a goal of mine too, though not one I’ve started since I have too many other goals. I’ve found romances are kind of my comfort reads – I don’t like to read too many of them but have found some authors I really love. I listen to a lot of audiobooks too.
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoy romances and audiobooks so much.
I used to be super addicted to playing word games on my phone and Kindle. I finally deleted them all from my devices. It’s been very liberating! And, of course, it’s given me lots more time to read.
Happy TTT!

It’s cool we have that in common. Good for you.
Looks like you’re doing great on your goals so far! You’ve accomplished quite a few. Playing fewer games on the cell phone is a great goal and one I definitely need (she says, as she’s playing a game on her cell phone). Good luck accomplishing the rest of your goals this year!
Thank you! Aren’t they tempting? It’s hard to say no.
I think you’re doing great with your goals! I have to put a timer on my video games because I have no self-control. I’ll play them all night if I let myself.
Thank you. A timer is a great idea!
A great set of goals and well done so far.
Social media scrolling is such a time waster for me. I don’t know why I do it!
Have a great week!
Thank you.
I totally hear you there. I spend far too much time doing that, too.
Whittling down that tbr list is a hard one. How do you track it?
I have a list in a notes app that I periodically go through. One of these days I should sign up for something fancier I’m sure. 🙂
I think you’re doing great! Rereading was one of my goals, as well. I reread the entire Hunger Games series for the first time in 10 years (and rewatched the films) and then picked up the new book Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Rereading the series definitely helped me enjoy the new book more, and now I’m ready for the new film. I think revisiting an old favorite series needs to be a new yearly goal now. 🙂 Good luck with the rest of your goals!
Thank you. Your rereads sound so fun!
I like to think of the games on my phone as just a different form of story telling. 😉😁
Hope you are able to tackle this year’s goals.
I like the way you think. 🙂 And thanks.
