This is the time of year when my part of the world is in flux. The weather is generally chilly and windy, but we don’t always know what will be on the ground other than autumn leaves. Will everything be covered in a thin – or thick – layer of ice? Maybe it will be cold and rainy instead? Perhaps we will have a few flakes of snow gently falling from the sky but otherwise be fairly dry? Will we have a surprise blizzard?
You never know which one of these options might occur even if climate change is making the warmer days where you can go outside with a light winter jacket but not a scarf, gloves, or snow boots more likely and the blizzards less likely than they used to be.
Here are ten book covers filled with snow and ice.
1. The Call of the Wild by Jack London
2. Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak
3.Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mt. Everest Disaster by Jon Krakauer
4. The Terror by Dan Simmons
5. The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen
6. The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey
7. Winter’s Bone by Daniel Woodrell
8. The Ice Storm by Rick Moody
9.Snow Treasure by Marie McSwigan
10. Attack of the Deranged Mutant Killer Monster Snow Goons (Calvin and Hobbes, #7) by Bill Wattenson
(Oh, how I miss reading Calvin and Hobbes).
If you live in a cold place, stay warm!
Aaah, Calvin and Hobbes! Love them. I haven’t read Dr Zhivago, but enjoyed the movie.
Nice!
Great topic and selections! Makes me feel ready to go enjoy some snow!
Glad to hear it. 🙂
Love the colour palette going on here. They all give such a cold vibe.
Yes, absolutely!
I miss Calvin and Hobbes, too! I love that you ended the list with them. I should really reread those comics. It’s been way too long.
Happy reading! https://bookwyrmknits.com/2024/11/05/top-ten-tuesday-yarn-it/
Thank you. I should reread them, too.
We did the same topic but have two different lists! Cool! ❄️
Oh, that’s awesome!
Some of these are so pretty! I don’t like winter as a season, but it can provide a stunning backdrop for designs like some of these. 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting my list today.
I totally agree with you there, and you’re welcome.
It’s getting cold here too! I love The Ice Storm and The Terror.
Cool!
I like your take on this week’s topic, great list. We’ve been having a warmer Fall this year. Halloween was t-shirt weather here. I remember being little and having to wear a winter coat over my costume to trick or treat on Halloween.
Thank you. It’s interesting how different fall can be depending on where you live and how much the climate has changed.
The Snow Child!! Such a good book as is Doctor Zhivago! Great work!
Thank you. 🙂
The Little Match Girl was one of my favorites when i was a child, its a super sad story but i have pretty illustrated edition
Same here! It’s quite the story for a kid to read. I can’t remember much about the illustrations in mine.
Good theme! The Little Match Girl always makes me cry.
Thank you. It’s a tearjerker for sure.
I thought about featuring snow but I am not there yet. I love that you included Calvin and Hobbes!
Thank you. 🙂
Warm weather is trying to hold on, though the wind is quite blustery today—almost March winds. Driving home today, I had to drive around cars parked on the road, empty trash bins, and random pieces of trash. Oh, and all the leaf piles the city asks people to put on the shoulder of the road.

Oh, wow! I’m glad you navigated through all of that safely.
Ooo, this is such a nice SNOW CHILD cover – I’m used to a darker tone one. This one is creepy but a bit more magical.
Thank you. Yes, it is.
Ooooh, these are some good books! I really want to read The Terror, and I also recently came across The Snow Child and was intrigued. Love your picks!
Thanks. I hope you like those two.
I always love book covers that have snow and ice on them, especially in the winter. And I really loved The Snow Child and Winter’s Bone. Great choice for this week’s TTT. 😀
Thank you! Yes, such covers are fabulous.
I hate cold and snow to tell the truth, but this is a nice collection of covers!
Honestly, I don’t like cold weather either. Just looking at it on book covers and such. 🙂
They are cute covers.
We don’t get much snow here in the South East of the UK and even less in recent years.
Have a great week!
Thank you.
The weather hasn’t yet turned cold here in England but looking at your selection of book covers makes me want to wrap up warm in front of a roaring fire with a mug of hot chocolate and just enjoy reading a book set somewhere snowy.
That sounds perfect!
It’s been 25 years since I lived somewhere where it snows. I don’t miss driving in winter weather, but I do miss seeing snow on the ground. It’s so pretty! And I do love a wintry book cover. Great list.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

Thank you. Good for you for living somewhere warm.
Such a cool list! 😉 I haven’t read any of these books, but I love the cover for The Snow Child.

The Snow Child was excellent.
Ooo I’m sure this is right around the corner for us. Although, it’s been abnormally warm here for November. Great picks!
Thank you! Good luck with your weather.
I don’t feel like I own too many snow covers. What a shame because these as so lovely.
Thank you. 🙂
I’ve seen a few different posts featuring snow covers…yours have a darker feeling to them than most of the other books featured with snow. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Oh, interesting! That was not done intentionally. 🙂 Have a great weekend.
In Missouri, I still have a little bit of time before the ice and snow hit the ground. Although chilly and windy is right most days.
Great list of books. Love that you have Calvin and Hobbs on here.
Thanks for sharing. Wasn’t Calvin & Hobbes great?
What a fun list! I love a book with snow on the cover, and thought a bunch of these sounded great to add to my TBR, but turns out they’re already on there. Now I just have to prioritize reading them. I especially loved that you included the fun nostalgia of Calvin and Hobbs.
Thank you very much. Wasn’t Calvin and Hobbes a fun series?
