Top Ten Tuesday: Books to Read During a Storm

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Yes, I am the same Astilbe who submitted this topic to Jana. I was thrilled to learn she picked it.

All of the books on this list feature blizzards and snowstorms. I don’t know about all of you, but I like reading about blizzards and snowstorms while they are happening so long as I’m tucked safely at home and don’t need to go anywhere until the roads are ploughed and okay for travelling on again.

1. The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey

2.  The Cruelest Miles: The Heroic Story of Dogs and Men in a Race Against an Epidemic by Gay Salisbury

3. The Children’s Blizzard by David Laskin

4. Let It Snow by John Green

5. Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher

6. A Christmas Blizzard by Garrison Keillor

7. The Day After Tomorrow by Whitley Strieber

8. Ghost Story by Peter Straub

9.Chance of a Ghost (Haunted Guesthouse Mystery, #4) by E.J. Copperman

10.Who Stole Stonehenge? by Leela Cutter

Do you also like to read books about bad weather while the weather is snowy or stormy where you live?

  1. vero @themoonphoenix says

Who Stole Stonehenge? sounds like a cool tittle

  2. The Snow Child is my first book on the list, too. Like minds!

I completely forgot about the John Green, et al, Let It Snow book. Worth a reread, especially since the first time I read it, I read it out of order, thinking it was just a collection of short stories. I didn’t realize they were connected stories.

Please drop me a comment. I am trying to figure out if others can get through whatever barriers my provider has placed in our way. And I need the data. Thank you. My books which include snowy scenes

  3. I feel the same about snowstorms: love them as long as I don’t need to go out in them 🙂 Thanks for a fun topic!

    • You’re welcome. Thanks for stopping by. I left a comment on your post at about the same time you were commenting here, I think. It’s funny when that happens.

  4. I like snowstorms as well-as long as I can be home with power, LOL! I loved the topic.

  5. Love your titles! A storm can make a book atmospheric and memorable!

  6. This was a fun topic! Thanks for submitting it.

I think reading a book about a snowstorm during a snowstorm could be a lot of fun! I don’t get much snow where I live, though, so I don’t really have that opportunity.

  7. This is how I learned Whitley Strieber wrote The Day After Tomorrow! Great list ☺️

  8. OOh nice picks! These are all new to me ones but based on the titles they sound like perfect snowstorm reads!

    Thanks for visiting my TTT!

  9. The Snow Child is one that I’ve seen around from time to time and been curious! Great list.

  10. I think books with storms can be so dramatic, and you’ve picked some good ones!

  11. Great idea!

  12. congrats on getting your topic chosen!

  13. That’s a cute list. Some intriguing titles there Who Stole Stonehenge for example 🤣 we don’t get many storms here, snow or otherwise.

    Have a great week!

  14. Oh, I didn‘t know that The Day After Tomorrow was based on a book! I love that movie!

  15. I have had The Snow Child on my TBR for years now. I just really need to get to it lol

  16. Yes, I’d much rather be inside reading about a winter storm than be in one.

  17. I’m thankful that where I live storms are rare, I can’t imagine having to be out in a storm without shuddering. I love this topic, I didn’t notice how many books were perfect for a stormy day before.

    • I’m glad you live in such a calm climate! Yes, it can be scary to be out driving or walking when a blizzard hits for sure.

  18. I’ve decided I am not a winter person, but I get where it can be a great time of year for a reader… so long as they can devote the time to reading. 🙂 Let it Snow is a great pick! I read that one years ago but don’t remember all the details. Thanks for the topic and visiting my list this past week! 🙂

  19. Great list! I didn’t know that The Day After Tomorrow was originally a book, so I’m obviously going to be adding that to my TBR. And I read The Children’s Blizzard – what a situation!
