Top Ten Tuesday: Boat Books

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

I love spending time on and near bodies of water. It’s such a relaxing way not only to enjoy your free time but also, when possible, to travel around.

Here are ten books that include scenes with boats, ships, and/or other vessels you can use on lakes, rivers, and oceans.

1.Life of Pi by Yann Martel

2. The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway

3. Scuffy the Tugboat by Gertrude Crampton

4.The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame

5. Jamrach’s Menagerie by Carol Birch

6. The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman

7. The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea by Yukio Mishima

8. A High Wind in Jamaica by Richard Hughes

9. Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

10. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (Chronicles of Narnia, #3) by C.S. Lewis

Comments

  1. A focus on boats! NIce. I’ve only read the Lewis, of these. Good ol’ Reepicheep.

  2. I like your take on this one! I have never read Rebecca but didn’t know it had anything to do with water or boats 😂 thanks for dropping by my post!

    • You’re welcome. Yes, I was surprised by that, too, but I don’t want to spoil it for you by sharing what the connection is. 🙂

  3. Claire Louisa says

Great choices and I’ve actually read a few of them.

  4. OOh nice picks! These are all new to me ones. A few sound familiar but I know I haven’t read any!

    Thanks for visiting my TTT!

  5. I’ve heard a lot about “Wind in the Willows,” but never read the book. Definitely need to consider adding a few classics to my towering TBR. 😉 I did also read “The Light Between Oceans” a couple years back. Thanks so much for visiting my website today!

  6. I like this interpretation of the theme! Living in the midwest, the only boats that I have easy access to are canoes and paddle boards!

  7. Awesome post, what a neat idea 😊

  8. Oooh, I love that you went with Life of Pi and The Old Man and the Sea! They are two of my favorite books!

  9. Always love The Voyage of the Dawn Treader – it has my favorite first line in fictiondom! Thanks for stopping by Reading Is My SuperPower 🙂

    • It’s a classic. I didn’t even have to look up the first line to know what you were talking about. 🙂

      And you’re welcome.

  10. What a great list! This is a fun topic!

  11. An interesting list. I enjoyed The Wind In The Willows. I want to read Rebecca.

    Have a great week!

  12. It’s cool that you thought of 10 books that feature the same type of transportation. I couldn’t do that, even though I tried really hard!

  13. I do love a good boat book (and if most are ships, well that’s not alliteration so boat book it is) and this is a great list of them

    • I tried so hard to find more boat books that I recognized, but it wasn’t meant to be.

      Alliteration is fun, though. 🙂

  14. I like that you focused on books about boats – I’ve read Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Rebecca and Wind in the Willows. Two books/series that were really fun that take place on boats: In the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant and the Pirate King series by Tricia Levenseller.

  15. A High Wind in Jamaica sounds intriguing. Voyage of the Dawn Treader was one of my favorites when i was younger

  16. Rebecca and The Light Between Oceans are so good. I’ve read Voyage of the Dawn Treader but I was pretty young. That ship is one of the things that I’ll always remember, though.

  17. That’s fabulous that you came up with ten books with a boat connection. I’ve read a few including Life of Pi and Rebecca.

  18. Oh, boats! I didn’t even think about boats. What a great idea, I’ve read 3 of your books: #2,6, and 9.

    Thanks for visiting my post:

  19. Several people went the boat route this week 🙂 Great topic!

  20. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was always my favourite Narnia book.

  21. I don’t love boats in real life, but apparently I really like them in fiction – there are a bunch of them on my TBR list. Weird!

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

    • Oh, that’s interesting! Are you prone to seasickness, too? I love being out on the water but must take medication first for that little problem.

  22. Life of Pi is such a great book to include! I love that your list is all boats:-)

  23. I always kind of envy people that see these topics and can think back on books they’ve read and come up with lists. I feel like I always draw a blank. Like I know I’ve read books that qualify, but I couldn’t name them if my life depended on it. Have a great weekend.

  24. I also love bodies of water, which is great since I live on an island 🤣 so I’ve always been near the water. I remember having to read The Old Man and the Sea in high school, and I’m not sure if I was too young to understand or just missed the point of the book, because I didn’t enjoy it back then. But The Light Between Oceans sounds amazing, and I had to add it to my TBR, so thanks for the heads up!

    • I couldn’t get into The Old Man and the Sea either, but I am a little envious that you live on an island. How neat. 🙂

  25. I almost focused on just boat/sailing books, but I feel like I’ve done a similar TTT post before so I expanded to be about travel in general instead.

Great list! Voyage of the Dawn Treader is my favorite Narnia book 🙂

    • It’s cool that you’ve done a similar theme.

And that book is such a classic. I love the films based on it, too.

  26. Oh a focus on boats is a great way to go 🙂
