Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I’d Love to Meet

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

There are so many talented writers out there that I found it difficult to narrow this list down to only ten of them.

I believe that one of the most important things anyone can do in life is to cultivate and maintain a good reputation. How you treat others, especially if they can’t defend themselves or do anything to repay you, says a lot about your character. Having strong ethics and a warm personality was the most important criteria I used to determine who should be included on this list.

Everyone I’m about to mention is known for being kind to and interactive with their fans. They do things like volunteer for charitable causes, support other authors on social media, and stand up against censorship. Yes, a well-written story is important, but I get excited when I see authors also go the extra mile to make the world a better place when they can. This sort of behavior is so inspiring.  Imagine what the world would be like if everyone behaved this way!

In some cases, the people on this list even been known to offer advice to folks who have questions about the publishing or writing processes. I especially like reading Stephen King’s tweets and seeing what Janny Wurst has to say on Reddit.

Comments

  1. Great list! Being kind and respectful of your readers is a vurtue not all authors possess. On that note, I would love to have met Ray Bradbury and Isaac Asimov.

  2. Stephen King and Neil Gaiman would certainly be fun to meet. 🙂

  3. My sister met Judy Blume recently and she loved her experience. Great list!

    • Thank you, and that is so cool. I didn’t know Judy Blume was still doing public appearances. Good for her.

  4. Sascha Darlington says

I like your list. Some of the writers I’m not familiar with, but will check out.

  5. Meeting Judy Blume was one of the biggest highlights of my life!! She was so kind!

  6. John Green and Judy Blume are two I would love to meet as well. I got to see Green at BookCon two years in a row, and I love listening to him tell stories. And, Judy Blume was such a big part of my youth.

  7. I got to go to a King event and he really was a lot of fun to listen to. Would love to hear Gaiman speak!

  8. Oh! Great list! I forgot about Judy Blume, I would love to meet her!!

  9. I would be over the moon to meet N.K. Jemisin! Her books are amazing.

  10. GRRM was on my list too. And Janny Wurts! I’ve been meaning to read some of her solo stuff- I read her collaboration with Feist but haven’t gotten to her Paravia books yet.

This is a great list, lots of amazing authors!

  11. Yes to authors who have healthy engagements with their readers! I am a witness on how Neil Gaiman supports other authors. One time there was a Filipino fan who tweeted him to write about FIlipino monsters and Neil pointed out that the reader/fan should look for local authors first and then Neil went on supporting a fundraising project for Janus Silang, a local author writing about Filipino monsters. Super cool guy. 🙂

  12. What a great list! I hope you get to meet many of them someday! I met Judy Blume and basically broke into tears like a crazy fangirl. Her work was my whole childhood and I was so happy I got to tell her so! ♥

    • Thank you. I hope so, too.

Your introduction to Judy Blume sounds so meaningful. I’m glad it was such a good experience for you.

  13. Neil Gaiman would be cool. And John Green, because I like his Vlog Brothers stuff (but have yet to read any of his books… though I plan to.) And Judy Blume, because she strikes me, from interviews, as a very wise, strong, and caring woman. And N.K. Jemison, who is on my list of authors to read because I hear her books are phenomenal!

    • I didn’t realize John Green did Vlog Brothers stuff. How neat.

Oh, and you should definitely check out N.K. Jemison’s books. She’s an amazing writer.

  14. I do love when authors have good reputations too!! And John Green is AMAZING and I love all the charities he runs and how much information and knowledge he gives away for free too. He’s such a kind person.

  15. I would love to meet John Green and Neil Gaiman! I follow them both on Twitter and they have really good things to say 🙂
Meeting George Orwell would have been such a privilege and honour, I have no idea what I would say to him but I’m sure he’d just say the most brilliant and enlightening things!

  16. John Green & Neil Gaiman were on my list too! They’d be amazing. Stephen King would be really cool too. I feel like I should have met him by now, living in Maine, but it just hasn’t happened yet. Thanks for stopping by my post! 🙂

  17. I love when authors are kind and interactive with their fans when they can be, it makes me like them so much more. There’s even authors whose books I don’t like, but I still love the author themselves because they’re such wonderful people! Neil Gaiman would be awesome to meet, as would Chuck Wendig and, well, all of these! George Orwell would certainly be an interesting one. Great list!

    • Thank you, and I’ve had the same experience. A friendly and warm personality really does make all the difference for an author.

  18. I don’t think I’ve read any books by the authors you list with exception to John Green, and even then, I’ve only read TFIOS! Hope you have a chance to meet everyone on your list. 🙂

Many thanks for the Finding Wonderland visit. Apologies it took me this long to visit your space!!

  19. I totally agree with you about being kind online. The authors that ended up on my list this week are ones that seem kind to other people (and most of them I’ve interacted with online once or twice… or more). It also makes me want to buy their books.

  20. Oh N.K. Jemisin, that is a good one too!
