I’m Julia Talbot, and I’m here to chat today about Night of the Living Manny, my new paranormal category romance from Dreamspinner Press!
Manny is a zombie book. Totally not a spoiler, right? Not with the title. I loved the challenge of writing it for the Dreamspun Beyond line, because those books are meant to be lighter, less scary, but still paranormal.
Let me tell you about the challenges of this! I write a lot of paranormal. Usually shifters or vampires. So this was humans trapped in an extraordinary situation. Plus kids. Plus a dog. Now, we all know how hard it is to get through a book wondering who will survive. With kids. And a dog.
Eek. I had to walk a fine line between suspense, the zombie genre, and keeping the publisher’s line in mind. I love a challenge, y’all. But the most difficult thing for me was no biting, no spankiness and no fated mates, which are usually my go -to paranormal loves.
Manny is, I hope, funny. Suspenseful. A true zombie story a la Shaun of the Dead. I had such a fun time weaving all the elements together, and my beta readers and editors really helped make the story flow. Timeline can be a challenge for me as a writer. So can the shiny squirrel syndrome. Let’s put this in! And this!

As a side note, I tend to listen to music as I write, but I found it really tough to make a playlist for this book. What I ended up doing was letting zombie movies play in the background while I typed away.
