Travelling by A. Nybo – Guest Blog

Long and Short Reviews welcomes A. Nybo who is celebrating today’s release of Three Bears.

G’day! Thanks for having me.

My first novella with Dreamspinner Press is part of their ‘World of Love’ collection. Since the geographical region is a prominent feature, as a West Australian writing a menage story, how could I go past the surf spot called Three Bears?

Travelling

I’ve been lucky enough to have the opportunity to go to some amazing places like, Peru, Borneo, Canada, Russia, Ireland, and destinations closer to home. When you’ve been to places like that, it’s pretty hard to choose one as a ‘favourite’. They each have their own delights and their own horrors, but one thing I can say about them all—I wasn’t there long enough.

Going to places where you can’t speak the language is always entertaining. I hate shopping, but give me a non-English speaking supermarket and I’m entertained for hours trying to figure out what a particular food is or the intended purpose of a particular item. It’s a bit like playing pictograph—only discovering if you’ve won when you buy and open the products (which can be expensive when you’re a picky eater). Places like Singapore are easy to get by in, as most people speak English as well as their own language.

However, get to a place like Russia? Yeah, there can be some interesting moments. One day I stepped into the lift to go to my hotel room and an armed policeman followed me in (this was at a time I wasn’t yet used to seeing armed policemen). The moment the doors were closed he began speaking to me, then speaking sterner, and then demanding. I had NO idea what he wanted, so I attempted to tell him I didn’t speak Russian.

I don’t know whether he was becoming annoyed with my inability to understand, or my amazing ability to mangle his language when I pulled out one of two Russian phrases I pretended to know, which meant ‘I don’t speak Russian’. Now, I may or may not have said that, as I was feeling somewhat intimidated by this point and my mind conjured images of gulags and exile to Siberia—and I really hate the cold. In reality, I might have asked him for his grandmother’s knickers for all I knew.

Not all that surprising, he followed me to my hotel room and stood waiting for…something. I finally invited him in, picked up the phone and asked the concierge to translate then handed the phone to the cop. Turns out he just wanted to look at my passport. Who knew my god-awful scary passport picture would be the least frightening aspect of the interaction?

The incident was soon dismissed as later that day we had the opportunity to hang out with some of the locals and discuss cultural differences. Which was a lot of fun. All the Russians I spent time with had a very dry sense of humour. When I mentioned it to one of them, I was told that when your life savings becomes worthless overnight, what else are you to do other than wallpaper your toilet with rubles and laugh about it?

I’m more of a flora and fauna traveller than a cultural traveller. I gravitate to forests and jungles rather than museums, art galleries and nightlife. That’s how I end up swimming in the Amazon and canoeing the Kinabatangan. However, that’s not to say I haven’t spent the odd hour or fifty in Irish castles.
For best results, the concoction should be cialis generico in india consumed twice a day. Of course, while I was in Peru, I couldn’t leave without going to Machu Picchu. The atmosphere there was really special. I have never experienced anything remotely like it anywhere else I’ve been. Being on top of a mountain when clouds roll over it is pretty special anyway (Western Australia that has no real mountains to speak of). But to sit amongst the llamas and buildings with their amazing waterways when it happens, is another. I imagine it is quite different these days—tourism has a habit of changing places.

At Three Bears surf break, the attraction between a group of friends is anything but “Luke warm….”

Dan goes to stay with his best friend Josh in Margaret River, the surfing capital of Western Australia, to sort out his sexual confusion. But his best friend is the source of that confusion. Having never been attracted to a man other than Josh, Dan fears risking their friendship just to discover men aren’t his thing.

Within the first few days, Dan meets Luke, a local barista who offers him surf lessons. Dan soon finds himself emotionally coveting not one, but two men. When they go to Three Bears, his hidden desires begin to emerge. As the ambiguity of Dan’s mixed signals clears, it becomes apparent both of his surfing companions want him—badly.

It is only when Luke and Josh hook up that they formulate “Operation Three Bears,” an adventurous plan that might lead to a satisfying outcome for all of them.

About the Author: A. Nybo has tried conventional methods (a psych degree and a GC in Forensic Mental Health) but far prefers the less conventional, such as the occasional barbecue in the rain, 400km drives at 1am for chocolate, and multiple emergency naps in any given 24hr period. Favourite things to do include that which can be seen (e.g. reading, writing, drawing, walking the dogs, travelling) and that which can’t, such as dreaming (both awake and asleep).

Western Australian born, she has been spotted on the other side of the planet several times–usually by mosquitoes. And discovered Amazonian mosquitoes love her just as much as they do in her home state.

A Character Interview with Brom Bones by Joe Cosentino – Guest Blog and Giveaway

Long and Short Reviews welcomes back Joe Cosentino who is celebrating today’s release of the Holiday Tales from Fairyland e-book and the Tales from Fairyland Anthology paperback. Post a comment about why you love fairytales. The one that sets us off to Fairyland will receive an Audible audiobook code for The Naked Prince and Other Tales from Fairyland/Tales from Fairyland Book 1 audiobook, by Joe Cosentino, published by Dreamspinner Press, performed by Joel Leslie. (winner of favorite audiobook of the month on Open Skye Reviews)

An Interview with Brom Bones, a character in Joe Cosentino’s Holiday Tales from Fairyland, the second Tales from Fairyland e-book novella, and Tales from Fairyland Anthology paperback

Since the readers can’t see you, what do you look like Brom?

I’m tall, very muscular from working in my pumpkin patch, with dark hair and eyes, a wide nose, and full lips. I’m masculine, loyal, honest, and a one-man man.

Where do you live?

In Sleepy Hollow, Fairyland. I have a pumpkin farm.

How does it feel to be out (no pun intended) of the new novella, Holiday Tales from Fairyland?

It’s great to take a break from farming, but I miss Ichabod like crazy!

Were you in Joe’s popular The Naked Prince and Other Tales from Fairyland published by Dreamspinner Press? And how did the new stories come about?

No, mine is The Legend of Sleepy Hollow story. That first novella was Joe’s comic gay take on Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Pinocchio, Goldie Locks and the Three Bears, and The Snow Queen. I, and the readers who loved The Naked Prince and Other Tales from Fairyland, kept whispering in Joe’s ear, and Holiday Tales from Fairyland was born. Also, Joe told me he missed Fairyland and couldn’t wait to come back. I don’t blame him. LGBT people aren’t represented in traditional fairytales. Joe changed all that in his tales from Fairyland.

Your story takes place on Halloween. What is it that you love about that holiday?

I like studly jack-o-lanterns on people’s front porches, white sheets turned into drag ghosts at eerily-lit windows, and people dressed as campy witches. Most of all, I’m incredibly turned on by the Headless Horseman, a tall and muscular figure who rides on horseback through the forest on Halloween.

Tell us about your story in Holiday Tales from Fairyland.

My story is based on the classic The Headless Horseman by Washington Irving. In Joe’s version, Ichabod Crane enter Sleepy Hollow and falls off his horse into my arms, giving me, Brom Bones, quite the boner. When the residents of the homophobic Sleepy Hollow aren’t happy about it, Ichabod and I come up with a plan to teach the town folk a lesson in acceptance they’ll never forget?

Tell us about Ichabod Crane.

He’s twenty-five, tall and lean, with large hands and feet. He has dark hair and eyes, and a long nose—where he rests his eyeglasses. I’ve never been in love with anybody before, but I’m sure in love with our new schoolmaster. Ichabod teaches me to read, and I teach him about pumpkin farming. We’re like two happy jack-o-lanterns living in my cottage.

Who are the other characters in your story?

Wealthy Brunt Vas Tassel, his daughter and her hand maiden, his two farmhands, and King Dodo of Sleepy Hollow. You won’t believe who ends up with whom at the end!

What are the other stories in the novella?

The second story is a take-off on The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, the E.T.A. Hoffman story upon which the ballet is based. On Christmas, hunky Cavalier P.I. receives a visit from a new client, handsome young Fritz. Somebody strangled Fritz’s sister Clara with the ribbons of her toe shoes, and Fritz is the top suspect. But he seems more interested in the bulge in Cavalier’s tights than in getting himself off the hook. When Cavalier turns sweet on Fritz, it’s time for the private investigator to question his old dance partner the Sugar Plum Fairy, Clara’s husband the Nutcracker, Fritz’s other sister Louise, and Fritz’s Godpapa Drosselmeyer to save his intended, and find out: Who Killed Clara? The last story is a Winter Solstice story: Vasillisa, the Beautiful. Young Vasily falls in love with a mysterious, handsome man who rides by his orphanage each morning, noon, and night. Upon following him, Vasily discovers the man is a prince under the powers of Baba Yaga. Can Vasily rescue his tortured Prince Anton from the witch’s conversion therapy and dance around his pole on May Day? Story three spills the winter beans.

Fairyland is a very gay place.

The gayest. It’s Fairyland after all!

Tell us about the heroes in the other two stories.

Cavalier pirouettes into a relationship with his young, sexy, mysterious client, Fritz. He needs to get Fritz off the hook (no pun intended) before Fritz is arrested for murdering his sister Clara. Thankfully Cavalier is smart and witty, and after interrogating the suspects, figures out Who Killed Clara. Orphan Vasily gazes out his window watching a gorgeous man ride by on his horse three times a day. He follows the man and discovers he is a prince bewitched by the witch, Baba Yaga. Vasily has to use his smarts, creativity, and heart to save himself and his loving Prince Anton. Vasily is in for an incredible surprise at Baba Yaga’s cottage.

Any chance you’ll be pairing in the future with Cavalier or Vasily?

No. I’m a one-man man. And that man is Ichabod Crane of Sleepy Hollow, Fairyland.

Are you excited about the paperback of the entire Tales from Fairyland Collection?

Am I ever! What I hope is that everyone reads and these funny, sexy, heartwarming, romantic, fairytales. They will no doubt bring you back to better, joyous times. I also hope the movie studio producing those amazing animated fairytales finally realizes that fairytales should include everyone—including the schoolteacher who finds love in Sleepy Hollow!

What other stories has Joe published?

I’m not in them, but they are still terrific. Published by Dreamspinner Press, In My Heart: An Infatuation & A Shooting Star (Rainbow Award Honorable Mention) are loosely based on Joe’s high school and college years. His popular, heartwarming Bobby and Paolo Holiday Stories are A Home for the Holidays (which takes place on the gorgeous and romantic island of Capri), The Perfect Gift, and The First Noel (releasing 12/7). There Joe goes again writing about the holidays!

And Joe has two award-winning mystery series with other publishers.

I’m not in those either. Reviewers called his Nicky and Noah mysteries “the funniest books ever written,” captivating mysteries,” and “The Hardy Boys meets Murder She Wrote meets Hart to Hart.” Adorable couple, college theatre professors Nicky and Noah, solve murder mysteries on their Treemeadow College (named about gay couple Tree and Meadow) campus and on tour in Drama Queen, Drama Muscle (Rainbow Award Honorable Mention), Drama Cruise, Drama Luau, Drama Detective, Drama Fraternity, Drama Castle (releasing 2/1/19). His popular Jana Lane mysteries (The Wild Rose Press) feature an ex-child movie star making a movie comeback and solving murder mysteries on set. Jana has a gay agent and gay best friend who provide lots of gay humor. The five novels are Paper Doll, Porcelain Doll, Satin Doll, China Doll, and Rag Doll.

Joe also wrote the Cozzi Cove series published by NineStar Press.

I’m not in those either! Cal Cozzi runs a gay resort on the New Jersey Shore. We get his story and the sexy, entertaining, and often surprising stories of his gay residents each summer. The novels are Cozzi Cove: Bouncing Back (Rainbow Award Honorable Mention), Cozzi Cove: Moving Forward, Cozzi Cove: Stepping Out, Cozzi Cove: New Beginnings, and Cozzi Cove: Happy Endings.

How does Joe, a college professor/department chair, find the time to write all these books?

Characters like me tell him what to write.

You have a hot love scene with Brom Bones in his cottage. How did you handle that?
There are many herbal remedies to get rid of nocturnal emissions. 20mg tadalafil http://robertrobb.com/dont-blame-china-for-u-s-coronavirus-response/ Web drug stores can likewise give online item data that you can print, and additionally connections to different wellsprings of data about for sale viagra http://robertrobb.com/forget-the-polls-whos-going-to-vote/ your prescriptions and wellbeing condition. Brom and I had been cuddling in bed each night. Finally, the expression of our love was beautiful and magical. We are a true Fairyland love story.

How can your readers contact you?

Through Joe. He loves hearing from readers.

When the residents of the homophobic Sleepy Hollow aren’t happy about it, the headless horseman rides into town. Will Ichabod fall off his horse into Brom’s strong, rescuing arms, teaching the townsfolk a lesson in acceptance they’ll never forget? On Christmas, hunky Cavalier P.I. receives a visit from a new client, handsome young Fritz. Somebody strangled Fritz’s sister Clara with the ribbons of her toe shoes, and Fritz is the top suspect. Eighteen-year-old Gideon Golden, after being thrown out of his home by his homophobic parents, breaks into the cottage of three irresistibly burly men on Bear Mountain. Romance ensues between that stringy guy with a growing appendage and the character with a thing for giants. A handsome but cold-hearted prince bewitches young Kieran into being his captive. Can Gaelen thaw the ice palace and save his love?

“Hey, that reminds me.” Brom shook a thick finger at him. “You promised to teach me reading, remember?”

“When would you like to start?”

“As my mother used to say, ‘Now is better than never.’”

“All right.” Ichabod reached into his pocket for the first wooden letter he had taken from the schoolhouse. He placed an “A” on the rug. “What does that letter look like to you?”

“Me upside-down.”

Ichabod stared at Brom and squinted.

“Here. I’ll show you.” Brom took Ichabod’s hand in his and moved Ichabod’s fingers from one shoulder blade, down to his waist just above his buttocks, and back up to the other shoulder blade. Ichabod couldn’t deny enjoying the lesson. “Yes, well, let’s move on.” He put down a “B.”

“That looks like me too!”

“I don’t follow.”

“Here’s the top part.” He moved Ichabod’s hand across one of his expansive pectoral muscles. “And this is the bottom part.” He continued downward to his bulging crotch.

“Ah, c-c-correct. It’s a b-b-b ‘B.’” Ichabod’s body and voice shook so much Bart covered his ears with his paws. “And this?” He put down a “C.”

“Your figure.” Brom moved his own hand from Ichabod’s small shoulder down and around his smooth buttocks.

Ichabod nearly exploded out of his britches. “I think we’ll stop at ‘C.’”

“Why? We’re just getting started!” Brom reached into Ichabod’s pocket to see if there were any other wooden pieces. “What else do you have in there?” His full lips were inches away from Ichabod’s.

Ichabod’s nostrils were filled with Brom’s woodsy scent. He yearned to wrap his arms around Brom’s wide back and rest his head on Brom’s strong chest.

Bart nuzzled his head against Ichabod’s chest.

Brom laughed. “It looks like you have a friend.”

The dog licked Ichabod’s face.

Brom yawned and rose to his feet. “I’m bushed. I can learn more letters tomorrow night. Time for bed.”

Ichabod looked down at the rug. “Should I sleep here with Bart?”

“Bart sleeps in the bed with me. You can sleep in the barn.”

Ichabod rose and headed toward the door. Bart ran there first and barked at him. Ichabod jumped back. “Did I do something wrong?”

Brom snickered. “Bart doesn’t want you to leave. So I guess you’ll have to sleep with us. I warn you. I snore like a bear.” He disappeared into the bedroom.

Ichabod entered the room, hearing his heart pounding in his ears. He found Brom bare-chested in long johns, laying on his back in the bed. He gasped at the sight of Brom’s broad shoulders, bulging biceps, mountainous pectoral muscles, and washboard abdominals.

“Hurry up in while there’s still room. Bart likes to stretch out.”

Ichabod quickly disrobed, rested his eyeglasses on the night table, and lay on his side with his back towards Brom. He could barely contain his excitement, or the bulge in his long underwear.

Brom covered them with a blue checkered quilt. “It can get chilly at night. Sometimes really chilly.” Brom reached his powerful arm over him and spooned Ichabod’s back into his strong chest. As Brom snored lightly, Ichabod felt the other man’s warm breath on his neck. Bart leapt onto the bed and lay at their feet. For the first time in his life, Ichabod felt at home.

He waited until the door closed and peeked around the closest boxes. He didn’t want anyone listening in to his conversation. Call him overly private, but he liked keeping some things to himself.

Oliver whipped his phone from his pocket and snapped a few shots of the statue for future reference. He draped his bag over his shoulder, then hesitated.

Oliver turned and ascended the ladder one more time. He stared into her black eyes. He didn’t know what to say, but he felt he owed her a good-bye of sorts. “I’ll do my best for you to make you beautiful,” he said, then pressed his lips to hers. His mouth tingled and he bit back a moan. He’d never forget the statue. He’d see her again, but still she was one in a million.

Oliver eased away from her and touched his mouth. “Good night, Bia. Until tomorrow.”

He climbed down the ladder and headed out of the stockroom. He’d find the best dress and make her look stunning. Now he had to get her out of his mind so he could focus on his other jobs. He waved at Kratos, who was on the phone, then left the store. His favorite consignment shop tended to have summery dresses in stock and always the one-of-a-kind garments he preferred. If he played his cards right, he’d be able to find what he needed, get the statue dressed, and still make it to his six o’clock appointment before Matilde had a snit fit. Time to hit the stores.

R an Excerpt

Their footsteps clicked against the pavement. Gemma wasn’t normally overly dramatic or prone to hysterics, but the deserted lane had her riding the edge of panic. Her senses were on high alert, and she was hyperaware of every sound. She was ready to call a halt and get an Uber.

As they meandered farther down the unfamiliar lane that made her think they had entered a Charles Dickens novel, with the cobbled streets and turn-of-the-century architecture, Gemma fretted that they had taken the wrong street. And there was something in the air. It was quiet. Too quiet. Not even crickets hummed.

It was then that she heard it. A great swooshing noise. The va-woop-woop-woop made her think of helicopter blades, but there was no engine motor thrumming with it.

“Do you guys hear that?” Gemma asked, glancing behind them, trying to discern where the unnatural sound was coming from.

“I thought that was just me,” Moira said. “What do you suppose it is?”

“I don’t hear anything,” Anna said, looking up and down the street, her brow furrowed in concentration. “Clearly, this is not the way to the hotel. Sorry, guys. Maybe we should take that street coming up on the right. It should take us in the general direction of the hotel.” Then she raised her head, peering up at the darkness beyond the streetlamps.

At Anna’s bloodcurdling scream, Gemma jerked and followed her gaze up to the black, starry sky above. Gemma shook her head as she stared, trying to clear it. What had been in that Guinness? Had someone slipped a drug into her beer and roofied her? Her mind was playing tricks on her. Or it was the light and an overactive imagination.

Moira’s scream joined Anna’s. It wasn’t a hallucination. It was a fucking monster

“Is there a Dom you’re interested in?” Andi asked.

“No.” She’d seen them all, and no one spoke to her soul.

“Justin’s off limits. What about Delana?” Andi half-shrugged. “Maybe she’s who you want.”

“I want a male Dom. Delana’s great, but she’s hunting for a hunk, too.” Mary swept her gaze over the crowd. She knew everyone there, but one man caught her attention. Sebastian Paul. She gasped. She knew Sebastian. Too well. What was he doing at the club? He’d never struck her as being interested in the lifestyle, much less a Dom.

“What?” Andi nudged Mary. “Who do you see?”

“A guy from work.” She sank onto the nearest stool. Would Sebastian care if he knew her? Would he out her? They worked together. He wouldn’t want to out her … right? He’d risk outing himself.

“Oh, Master Seb.” Andi nodded. “He and Sir are friends. I guess he started coming back to the club last month. You know him?”

“Not as a Master.” He worked in the area next to hers at the air traffic control center. They shared working hours one day a week. When their breaks aligned, they talked about life, music, and whatever else they thought of. She liked him and looked forward to their Thursdays together.

“Well, he’s friends with Sir. Maybe I can set up a meeting. We can all play or hang out.” Andi grasped Mary’s hand. “Come on.”

“Andi.” She didn’t mean to be pushy or expect special treatment. They were at the club, and she didn’t deserve to be ballsy. She could be forthright, and Doms didn’t want subs to top from the bottom. They wanted bratty subs. She wasn’t bratty. She also wasn’t sure she wanted to submit to Sebastian. She didn’t want to ruin the friendship.

“Just come with me.”

Zetithians are back. And they’re hotter than ever…

Having the Zetithian feline gene gives Larry Tshevnoe awesome beauty, fearsome strength, sensuality and sexual prowess unmatched by any other males in the universe. But it can make the quest for true love…complicated.

Enter childhood friend and fellow Zetithian Althea Banadänsk. Her empathic powers make her the only one who can show Larry what he truly desires, and she’ll do anything to help…even if that means hiding her desperate craving for him.

But when a distress call sends them off course—and into danger—they find more than their hearts are at stake. Now it’s up to them to become the champions of truth and justice throughout the galaxy…or risk losing it all.

Enjoy an Excerpt:

“You have got to be kidding me.”

Larry was prepared for Althea’s reaction. After all, that was pretty much what everyone said when they first laid eyes on his ship. “Don’t worry. She’s got it where it counts.”

“Uh-huh,” she drawled. “Sure she does.”

“Come on now, Al. You know Mom wouldn’t let me fly around in a no-good ship. In fact, she’s the one who found it for me.”

Jack had also taken it to the same Delfian mechanic who’d outfitted the Jolly Roger, which could outfly damn near any ship in the quadrant—a distinction Jack was not only very proud of, but went to great lengths to maintain and seldom missed an opportunity to demonstrate. Larry’s vessel, being smaller with less room to accommodate the supercharged stardrive components, came in a close second.

“Hmm…” Althea studied the exterior, her gaze ultimately landing on the name painted above the main hatch. “The Three Stooges? Seriously? I mean, I get the reference, but what kind of a name is that for a ship?”

Larry had heard that comment before too. “Did that before Moe and Curly decided they wanted ships of their own. Never got around to changing it, especially since I’d already had it registered. I tend to refer to it as the Stooge, but I’m probably the only one who does.”

He stepped up to the hatch and keyed open the palm lock, then waited while two sections of the battered hull slid up like a pair of gull’s wings. “I’d thought of calling it the DeLorean, but that name was already taken. Guess Mom isn’t the only ship’s captain with a fondness for antiques.”

This time, Althea didn’t even rise to the bait, which had Larry more than a little concerned. He’d always been able to make her laugh. Something was different. Something even a Zetithian with the occasional prescient vision couldn’t figure out.
His concern was short-lived, however, because the other oddity of his starship chose to put in an appearance.

“Mother of the gods,” Althea whispered. “You might have warned me.”

To her credit, she hadn’t screamed, which was what most people did when they met his Scorillian navigator—or sidekick as Brak preferred to be called, a preference he seldom failed to mention.

After a quick glance over his shoulder to make sure the coast was clear, Larry beckoned to his partner. “Hey, Brak. C’mon out and meet Althea.”

With a wave of his fluffy antennae, Brak minced down the gangplank, holding out a barbed appendage as he approached. “I am pleased to meet you, Althea. I’ve heard so much about you.”

Althea chose to tap the joint above Brak’s terminal pincer rather than shaking hands with the huge insect, a move that Larry considered to be quite prudent. “Nice to meet you, Brak. I haven’t heard one damn thing about you.”

Brak’s antennae flattened as he rotated a bulbous eye toward Larry while keeping the other eye aimed at Althea. “There are times when I believe him to be ashamed of me.”

“Not ashamed,” Larry said. “Just careful. If the Baradans had known you were on board, they might not have let us land.”

Brak thrust his mandibles forward in a gesture Larry had only recently identified as a pout. If Althea could read Scorillians—and Larry honestly wasn’t sure she could—having her along for the ride would go a long way toward deciphering his shipmate’s moods. Although some of Brak’s emotions were probably best left in the dark.

“You know I am not a carrier of the plague,” Brak whined. “Why does this unjust stigma persist?”

Larry shrugged. “I can’t help you, Brak. Maybe if it was called something other than the Scorillian plague, you might be able to escape the connection, but it isn’t, so I guess you’re stuck with it.”

“So annoying.” Brak nibbled the tip of his pincer like a nervous Nellie biting her fingernails. “Particularly since we Scorillians have so many other redeeming qualities.”

“Yeah. So I’ve heard.”

Brak displayed his annoyance with the usual crunching of his mandibles. “I’ll be in my quarters if I’m needed.” With a flutter of his translucent green wings, Brak did a quick about-face and retreated up the gangplank.

Scorillians might have other attributes, but Brak’s ability to navigate a ship was Larry’s particular favorite. Brak claimed he could plot a course through a black hole and come out less than ten meters from his intended target on the other side. While that was an obvious exaggeration, he’d certainly never been lost—at least not to Larry’s knowledge.

Larry’s own expertise was in deep space communications, and he was amassing a fair fortune by upgrading outdated comsystems. Since most manufacturers would rather replace a system than upgrade it, he was able to save his clients a considerable amount of money, and his popularity had grown along with his bank account. He didn’t even have to advertise. Word of mouth got him all the work he could handle.

He’d been doing the same type of work even as a teenager aboard his parents’ ship, and while he could have set up shop somewhere, he wasn’t one to sit around and wait. So, like the tinkers in days of old, he traveled to wherever his services were needed, which was how he’d met Celeste.

If he’d met her on the street in Rhylos’s brothel district, where sex pheromones were continuously pumped into the air, he would’ve discounted the attraction entirely. But they’d met when he’d stopped off at the orphanage to visit Onca and Kim. Since there were no airborne pheromones inside the Palace, the only enticement was Celeste’s own personal scent, which was alluring, if somewhat baffling.

She was pretty too. Lush, curvy figure. Long, softly curling blond hair. Sparkling green eyes. Captivating smile. Yeah. She was very attractive, not to mention intelligent, witty, and charming. He just couldn’t decide whether he loved her. Perhaps he was wrong to go running off to find Althea—after all, hardly anyone consulted an empath before choosing a mate—but since he’d known Althea all his life, he saw no reason not to make use of her abilities. The truth was, with everything he’d seen and heard about how much trouble the sexual prowess of Zetithian males could cause, he didn’t trust himself. Or Celeste.

“He is kinda moody,” Larry whispered as Brak disappeared through the hatch. “Think you can handle that?”

Althea slung her oversized duffel bag over her shoulder and started up the gangplank. “I’m sure we’ll get along fine as long as I don’t have to share a bunk with him.”
