To the End of the Earth by Michael Gouda – Guest Blog

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Michael Gouda who is celebrating the recent release of his newest work To the End of the Earth.

*****

Hi, I’m Michael Gouda and I was born in London, England, at the start of WW2.

In my mid thirties after a disgracefully enjoyable time in the gay pubs and clubs of London I decided to take life more seriously, went to University, obtained a respectable degree and took up teaching in the Worcestershire town of Evesham.

I took early retirement to a limestone cottage in the Cotswold hills where I lived with a series of neurotic collie dogs, a domineering cat and a determination to write. Since then I have written over one hundred and fifty short stories and published longer works with Dreamspinner Press and M.L.R. Press.

I like to introduce incidents from my own deplorable past into my stories of crime and misadventure. Being a romantic at heart though I never allow a tragic ending, however downbeat may be the indications in between.

Sometimes I include my agnosticism in my characters, who can’t believe in a loving god when there’s so much hatred and evil in the world and the innocent suffer. Nor can I really understand how a so-called monotheistic deity has three gods and certainly cannot comprehend life after death. However my atheist characters are able to disregard all this and remain loving and human beings (or the opposite – such is the power of the author).

I think my favorite story at the moment is one which, like many others, started from a true occurrence. It tells of the meeting in hospital between an able-bodied guy and another with cerebral palsy and of their deepening relationship. It was a difficult subject and needed to be treated in a sensitive manner. This I thought I had achieved though obviously DSP didn’t for they immediately rejected it. However MLR Press didn’t and ‘All my Fault’ has since been published.

For the past three years I have been immobilized in a Home, unable to stand or, of course, walk and having to be moved via a hospital hoist. Luckily I have retained at least most of my marbles, so I can type away at my tablet whenever I get a reasonably inventive idea.

I think I write to entertain as I certainly hope to do I ‘To the Ends of the Earth’ though occasionally I must admit secretly I think I also write some stories to inform, though hopefully not in a didactic, or worse in a patronizing way.

My next story is already on the stocks. It involves the complications of Mistaken Identities. I love the occasional unhappy ending. Unfortunately publishers don’t! So, however bleak things get it must always turn right in the end. Apparently, unlike real life when it comes to the crunch there’s always ‘Amor Vincit Omnia!’ – an easy cop-out – though it does leave a satisfying after-taste!

I hope you find ‘To the Ends of the Earth’ interesting and rewarding reading.

The narrator, Johnny, seems to have been born to succeed. He is a journalist, has friends, a loving family, an excellent education and a marvelous lover, Lex. But all starts to go wrong when a minor difference causes a rift between the two. Is it coincidence that the same night, the flat they share is set alight and Johnny only narrowly escapes. As he has identified a terrorist, he is given protection and a new identity by the police. But even here he is not safe and an explosion kills his two minders. Terrified, Johnny tries to hide himself in London. Who can he trust? He eventually finds out in a terrifying climax. ‘I’ll follow you to the Ends of the Earth’. Is that a threat or a loving promise?

On the morning of the March, I met Jacob at the station as I’d promised I would and the train was only twenty minutes late which was practically on time. He’d had to ‘pull a sicky’ to get the day off and hoped, if there were any TV pics, he wouldn’t appear. I said he could hide behind his placard.

Mine said, ‘I’m proud and I’m gay’, and his said, ‘I’m gay too’.

He made a minor objection. “I’m proud as well.”

“Course you are but it’s a sort of joke when we walk together.”

He said, “I don’t see the joke,” but I don’t think he minded.

We all congregated at the front entrance of the Main Building, and I dished out the placards and banners we’d made. I was pleased to see that lots of people had come along from the town, and they’d brought their own things to wave.
There were a few boos from some homophobic louts but they were quickly covered by our chanting, “I’m proud to be out” which was good as it covered the L’s, the B’s, the T’s and the Q’s as well as us G’s all under one chant. Then the watching crowd cheered and some slipped past the few police who were shielding us from possible antagonism and joined in. But really there was no need for protection and soon the police themselves, both male and female, joined the march, a couple even holding the edges of the banners.

There was a band organized by Sarah I think because I certainly wouldn’t have thought of it. They played tunes from the shows, both old and new, and people sang and had a fucking good time.

I marched with Jacob of course, on one side while the willowy youth, whose name was Christian, skipped along on the other. Occasionally he put his hand in my trouser pocket which, I think, slightly embarrassed Jacob but not enough to upset him.

A lot of guys really dressed down for the occasion, some wearing little more than a ‘wisp of cloth about their loins’. They were roundly cheered and really played up to the crowds making fairly obscene movements simulating coitus, or their idea of it – but all in the best possible taste!

We ended gloriously in Castle Park where we danced and sang and sang and danced until we could do it no more and, drooping, we returned home. Jacob caught the last train back and Christian and I (fuck buddies) made our final celebration of the day.

Top 5 things I like to do (when I’m not writing!) by Jodi Payne – Guest Blog and Giveaway

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Jodi Payne who is celebrating today’s release of Stable Hill. Leave a comment or ask the author a question for a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card.

Top 5 things I like to do (when I’m not writing!)

1. Read. I like to read outside the Romance field. Most of my reading is actually not romance. I do read some of course, but I find I need to get out of romance-head when I read, and I also find lots of inspiration for characters in other genres. I love Stephen King books, forensic action/mystery novels, non-fiction, and I’ll read anything that makes me think.

2. Bake. For me, baking is therapy. I’m one of those left-brained types that measures and plans, so a recipe appeals to me. I love all of that. The smell of something baking in the oven is so comforting. Watching my family enjoy whatever I’ve baked it a good feeling too. I especially like to make breads (banana bread mmm) and muffins and scones and that sort of thing. Breakfast-type foods.

3. Superhero Movies. I love them. I love epic battles between good and evil. I love capes and cool weapons and superpowers and strong women. I love underdogs that win, winners that give others a hand up, heroes with a tenuous hold on reality and heroines who are morally ambiguous. I love every Marvel and DC movie ever. Almost. I don’t know about some of those Batman movies. I even love superhero theme music. I’m a big dork about these things.

4. Get out on the water. I love the beach, it’s my most favorite place in the world. I love to sail, but if I can’t get there, then I’m happy taking out a canoe on Carnegie Lake or even just sitting/walking along the bank and watching other people row by. We often get to watch the Princeton Crew practice and host regattas on the lake, which is fun.

5. Live music! Anywhere, anytime, anything. I’m game. I love live music, whether it’s a huge concert or a small bar. My music tastes are eclectic and broad, so I’ll enjoy almost anyone that puts on a decent show whether its upbeat or low key.

All three men have a stake in Stable Hill, and it’s not long before they start to invest in one another too. But their complicated relationship doesn’t make having to sell Stable Hill any easier. Will the fragile triad they’re building last when the farm that brought them together is gone?

About the Author: Jodi Payne spent too many years in New York and San Francisco stage managing classical plays, edgy fringe work, and the occasional musical. She therefore is overdramatic, takes herself way too seriously, and has been known to randomly break out in song. Her men are imperfect but genuine, stubborn but likeable, often kinky, and frequently their own worst enemies. They are characters you can’t help but fall in love with while they stumble along the path to their happily ever after.

For those looking to get on her good side, Jodi’s addictions include nonfat lattes, Malbec and tequila any way you pour it. She’s also obsessed with Shakespeare and Broadway musicals. She can be found wearing sock monkey gloves while typing when it’s cold, and on the beach enjoying the sun and the ocean when it’s hot. When she’s not writing and/or vacuuming sand out of her laptop, Jodi mentors queer youth and will drop everything for live music. She lives near New York City with her beautiful wife, and together they are mothers of dragons (cleverly disguised as children) and slaves to an enormous polydactyl cat.

Fluffy by Julia Kent – Spotlight

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Julia Kent who is visiting with us to celebrate the recent release of Fluffy.

An all-new STANDALONE from New York Times bestselling author Julia Kent

It all started with the wrong Help Wanted ad. Of course it did.

I’m a professional fluffer. It’s NOT what you think. I stage homes for a living. Real estate agents love me, and my work stands on its own merits.

Sigh. Get your mind out of the gutter. Go ahead. Laugh. I’ll wait.

See? That’s the problem. My career has used the term “fluffer” for decades. I didn’t even know there was a more… lascivious definition of the term.

Until it was too late.

The ad for a “professional fluffer” on Craigslist seemed like divine intervention. My last unemployment check was in the bank. I was desperate. Rent was due. The ad said cash paid at the end of the day.

The perfect job!

Staging homes means showing your best angle. The same principle applies in making a certain kind of movie. Turns out a “fluffer” doesn’t arrange decorative pillows on a couch.

They arrange other soft, round-ish objects.

The job isn’t hard. Er, I mean, it is — it’s about being hard. Or, well… helping other people to be hard.

Oh, man…

And that’s the other problem. A man. No, not one of the stars on the movie set. Will Lotham – my high school crush. The owner of the house where we’re filming. Illegally. In a vacation rental.

By the time the cops show up, what I thought was just a great house staging gig turned into a nightmare involving pictures of me with an undressed naked star, Will rescuing me from an arrest, and a humiliating lesson in my own naivete.

My job turned out to be so much harder than I expected. But you know what’s easier than I ever imagined?

Having all my dreams come true.

Favorite Ways to Travel by Mickie B. Ashling – Guest Blog and Giveaway

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Mickie B. Ashling, who is celebrating the release of the second edition of Impacted!. Enter the Rafflecopter at the end of the post for a chance to win a $20.00 DSP Gift Card.

*****

Thank you for hosting the blog tour for the second edition of Impacted! This novel was originally published in 2009 when I was new on the scene. It was my first foray into BDSM, and I admit there was a lot I didn’t know about the men and women who live the lifestyle. Nonetheless, it was surprisingly well received, and continues to draw new readers. This second edition offers a gorgeous new cover designed by Kanaka along with extensive edits for a more enjoyable reading experience. The characters who populate this universe are dental and medical professionals living in San Francisco. You’re probably thinking dentistry can’t possibly be sexy—but my guys are! I hope you’ll give them a try.

I was asked to talk about my favorite vacation destination but it’s difficult to choose only one location. There are so many countries I’ve lived in or visited, and each one has something special to offer. I thought I’d share my preferred method of travel instead. This mainly applies to foreign destinations.

Bus tours are extremely hectic but a good value if you want to see a lot in a short period of time. In 2013, I went on a three-week bus tour through the UK, Scotland, and Ireland with an online friend. She was one of my dedicated fanfic readers, and when I mentioned my plans, and asked if she’d like to join me, she said yes. We hadn’t met in person before but, fortunately, we got along very well and the trip was a success. I say hectic because you’re on a fixed schedule, and you need to keep up with the other members of your group, or you’ll end up with a bunch of irate travelers, or even worse, miss an important highlight of the tour if the bus leaves you behind. I did another bus tour with the same company last winter (2018) but as a solo passenger this time. If you’re single or can’t find a traveling companion, I recommend this form of travel. You’re never really alone, unless you want to be, and the tour company makes sure to include you in all the events whether you’re paired or not. Since it was a winter tour, the price was half what it would be during the summer months, and there were no lines. The only downside was the weather. It snowed on several occasions, and this caused a few plane delays, but most of the places we visited were indoors, so the elements weren’t much of an issue. The one thing I noticed between tours was my energy level. It was harder to keep up the second time around. I don’t think the weather had anything to do with it. More than likely it was my five-year age gap. I was exhausted by the end of each day.

Cruises: Cruising is my favorite way to see the world, bar none. I’ve written an entire trilogy (Open Series) that began with a cruise. The older I get the more I enjoy the convenience and relaxed atmosphere of being on a ship. All the passengers are treated the same, whether you’re a millionaire or a working girl, and it is great fun to experience the royal treatment for however many days you are on board. There’s no shortage of food or entertainment, and you set the pace. It also gives you the opportunity to see a variety of countries without being locked into a firm timeline. You can always return to the ship if you don’t like what you see. Think of it like speed dating—go back for seconds if you want more.

On his way home from vacation, Scott Gregory, a closeted sub, hooks up with the gorgeous Red, a flamboyant Dom, for a thrilling one-off at a BDSM bar. They part ways after a satisfying scene… but meet again when Robin Kennedy—Red—arrives at his new job as a dental hygienist and discovers one of his two bosses is Scott.

Robin and Scott embark on a journey of exploration into their kinkier sides and discover they’re more than compatible—they’re a perfect match. But keeping employer/employee and Dom/sub separate at the office presents difficulties, and to make matters even more complicated, the owner of the dental practice is an acknowledged homophobe.

They fall in love, but Robin chafes at all the secrecy, refusing to live in the shadows. Scott isn’t as brave; he’s desperate to protect his job and his future. Will they be able to find some middle ground… or will their entire relationship fall apart because of fear?

About the Author: Mickie B. Ashling is the pseudonym of a multifaceted woman who is a product of her upbringing in multiple cultures, having lived in Japan, the Philippines, Spain, and the Middle East. Fluent in three languages, she’s a citizen of the world and an interesting mixture of East and West. A little bit of this and a lot of that have brought a unique touch to her literary voice she could never learn from textbooks.

By the time Mickie discovered her talent for writing, real life got in the way, and the business of raising four sons took priority. With the advent of e-publishing–and the inevitable emptying nest–dreams of becoming a published writer were resurrected and she’s never looked back.

She stumbled into the world of men who love men in 2002 and continues to draw inspiration from their ongoing struggle to find equality and happiness in this oftentimes skewed and intolerant world. She admits to being an angst queen and making her men work damn hard for their happy endings.

Mickie currently resides in a suburb outside Chicago.

*****
In the Erotica genre, particularly BDSM, every story must have 1. Strong Characters 2. Lots of sex 3. Believable plot 4. Detailed descriptions 5. Consensual adults 6. A bit of discomfort.

Strong Characters, in my opinion, lead the way to a good story. If readers can’t identify with or like the main characters, they won’t keep reading. In order for that to happen, the characters, especially the main ones, need to be dynamic and well rounded. There must be more to them than just a strong sex drive!

Because I write Erotica, BDSM in particular, there obviously must have lots of detailed sex scenes. No one wants to read erotica that leaves the bedroom door closed. That door needs to be left wide open. Okay, that door and every other door! Who says sex can only take place in the bedroom!

While some of what I write dances around Fantasy, the plots must still be believable. A woman trying to make her way in the world, a friend’s betrayal, discovering something shocking about your own past, working hard against the odds to make a living. These are all plots that most people can relate to regardless of the time period or locale.

Leaving some things to the imagination is all well and good, but each story needs lots and lots of details. Does the heroine have a scar across her back and shoulder? What happened? What does it look like? Does the hero have a secret he’s ashamed of? Is that a REAL Picasso hanging in a public restaurant? Does the whiskey have undertones of honey or vanilla? Details make a story come to life.

Because of the content of what I write, all of my main characters are adults who are well aware of and consenting to every act they partake in. There’s a Non-Con (Non consensual) genre out there that is fabulous, but I write strictly consensual. The taboos I delve into with BDSM are pretty standard – bondage, spanking, blindfolds, public display, that type of thing. I also make sure to give trigger warnings. I’ve been sexually assaulted and I would hate to have a reader suffer a flashback because of something in one of my stories.

Nonetheless, I like to push the boundaries of my characters just a bit. Perhaps the heroine is new to the idea of bondage and a bit frightened. Still, she is willing to try it in order to please her dominant. Also, for a long time f/f scenes were a no-no even while m/m scenes were being celebrated. I try to throw in a few f/f or poly scenes as long as they add to the plot even if such descriptions might make some readers a bit uncomfortable.

A romance anthology unlike any other, Queens of Hearts will seduce you, romance you, make you laugh, and make you afraid with four very different stories from four different, talented authors.

‘Regina’ by Adesanya
Her name is Queen by definition, and she wears her dreads – dreads she spent half of her life growing – atop her head as her crown. Her name is Regina, and as romance sweeps through the wintry air with promises of Saint Valentine and Cupid’s mighty arrow, she finds herself entangled with a handsome man who knows all the right things to say. As a love affair blooms and romance comes into full blossom, Regina and Clive seem like a match made in Heaven. But is Regina really the woman that Clive believes her to be, or will a dark secret put an end to their cold-weathered fling?

‘All I Want is to be Happy’ by Jennifer Patricia O’Keeffe
Michael is feeling down over his life. He works two jobs, has four roommates, can’t afford a car, and he’s as single as they come. Worse yet, after winning the crown at a local drag competition, he begins comparing himself to his nemesis – Madame Vivian, whom he stole the crown from. Now, as a popular author and a missing wallet come into his life, Michael finds himself on a series of misadventures that will either help him see the silver lining of life or drive him further into his self-despair.

‘On Bended Knee’ by Anarie Brady
As the Greek goddess of Springtime and the queen of the underworld, Kora divides her time equally between her husband, sweet and gentle Aides, god of Hades and her dominant, Grant, a.k.a. Grannus, Celtic god of salt water and spa. This arrangement suited all three of them perfectly for years. However, when Hecate, Kora’s handmaiden and supposed best friend decides she’d make a better paramour for Aides, things could change drastically for everyone.

‘You Don’t Eat People You Love’ by Jae El Foster
An infection is spreading throughout the town, and it has made its way to the countryside where a party of high school seniors is underway. When the infection spreads through the party in a most savage way, Bethany and Tommy must flee for their lives before they too are either eaten like their friends or they become a part of the living dead. Will sheer determination and the love that bonds their teenage romance be enough to keep them alive, or will they face a fate that is much worse than death?

Enjoy an Excerpt from On Bended Knee by Anarie Brady

“So what are you going to do with yourself for the next six months?” Hecate had asked.

“I’m not sure. I have no doubt I’ll find something,” she’d answered lazily.

“I have a friend I think you’d really like.”

“Hecate. I’ve told you. I’m done with mortals. It’s simply too heartbreaking.”

“What do you mean? It’s not like you can’t meet up with a mortal’s shade once he’s here in the underworld.”

Kora laughed with derision. She loved Hecate dearly, but sometimes the woman’s lack of foresight maddened her. “Not for me, silly, for them. I can’t count the number of times I have broken a mortal’s heart when I leave him to return here.”

“Oh. Right,” Hecate said. “Well, that won’t be a problem with Grant. He’s a god.”

Kora raised herself to her elbows and stared at her friend. “Not a Greek god.”

“No. Celtic. His ancient name is Grannus and he’s a god of sunlight and healing waters.”

“Interesting. What’s he like?”

“Stern, actually. He takes healing quite seriously.”

“As well he should,” Kora acknowledged. She’d had her fill of gods who failed to devote enough time and effort to their realms. “And personally?”

Hecate sighed dreamily. “He’s a perfect specimen of a male. He’s all lightness. Blonde hair, blue eyes, skin the color of fresh cream.”

Kora laughed again. “Okay, so he’s handsome, but I meant what is he like in his personal life?”

“Oh. Well, he’s not all lightness there, which is why I’ve never hooked up with him. Not my style at all.”

“Meaning?”

“He likes to take charge, give orders, that type of thing. He’s definitely an Alpha male. Personally, I’m more of an Alpha female, so we just never clicked romantically.”

Now, Kora was intrigued.

READ THE BLURB

Meghan Mallory has a plan for her life and it does not involve falling in love. She doesn’t have the time nor the inclination. She’s too busy trying to save the world. But when a freak snowstorm puts her in the path of a man she has secretly been fascinated with for years, she is forced to reconsider her stance on dating. Spencer is rude and obnoxious with his bad boy swagger but then he rescues her when she gets stranded on the side of the road, like a knight in tarnished armor, and sweeps her away to his house to ride out the blizzard.

Spencer Collins likes his life just fine, thank you very much. As the owner of the lifestyle club Cuffs & Spurs in Jackson Hole, he has a bevy of available subs who are his to command – not that any of them have held his interest in longer than he can remember. When his best friend’s sister-in-law gets herself into trouble, Spencer heads out to rescue the little brat who is in need of a firm hand. But he never expects to be forced to confront the incendiary heat that has always existed between them.

As the storm rages around them, they surrender to a passion hotter than the sun. Now that he has felt her surrender, Spencer attempts to lure Meghan into his world. But will they let go of their pasts or will they allow secrets to destroy them?

READ AN EXCERPT

She lowered her forehead to the steering wheel, trying not to panic.

If she couldn’t leave her car because of the storm and no one happened by, she would be forced to wait out the weather in her car and hope like hell she didn’t freeze to death. But that was better than attempting to walk in the cold and getting stuck out in the open.

Meghan spent the next two frigid hours watching her gas gauge dip toward empty. The snow had not let up, in fact it had intensified. But the idea of staying put and possibly freezing to death once her gas ran out had little appeal. There had to be someplace nearby where she could weather the storm and ride it out. A cabin where she could build a fire… something, anything was better than this. With her courage failing, she gathered up her backpack. She had water, protein bars, and trail mix, along with some other essentials including the solar blanket she had wrapped around herself for extra warmth. She folded the blanket up and shoved it inside the pack. She could do this; trudge a mile or two in a treacherous blizzard until she found a place where she could ride out the storm. Meghan reached for the keys in the ignition to shut the car off.

Thud, thud, thud, pounded against her window. She jerked and screeched at the dark figure beyond. Staring, her heart hammering in her chest, she tried to discern whether they were friend or foe—for all she knew, he was an axe murderer. Then again, even they wouldn’t be so stupid as to be out in this crud. It was definitely a he, given the size and shape of his face, not to mention the dark swath of facial hair.

The man yanked the door open. Icy wind blasted into the small confines, competing with the heat pumping out her vents.

“What the hell are you doing, little brat?” His gruff, deep masculine bass voice shattered the stillness.

That voice. The sinful, rich, deep voice slid over her skin like a whispered caress, made her think of melted decadent dark chocolate sliding over her tongue, and caused all her girly bits to stand at attention. Him? Out of all the people who lived and worked in Jackson Hole, all the tourists who flooded the streets with their rental cars, he was her rescuer?

Spencer Collins.

The man who had been a thorn in her side ever since she and her sister had moved to Jackson Hole.

“Nothing intentional, big guy, I can assure you. Storm came up a lot faster than I expected.”

She didn’t mention she tended to get distracted like an absent-minded professor when she was taking samples and measurements and collecting data to study later. Nor that she had lost track of time and had been jolted back to awareness when the first snowflakes began to fall. Total rookie mistake on her part, and she knew it. If she had left an hour prior, she would already be sequestered at Jenna’s, warm and fed. But as it was, she had made the hike too late, with the storm kicking into gear around her.

“There’s this thing called a cell phone.”

If she wasn’t frozen clear down to her bones and didn’t need him to rescue her from the prospect of freezing to death, she would have decked the man. Spencer was acting like she was an imbecile, incapable of figuring out how to survive. She would show him. She yanked her phone from her pocket, breathing a sigh of relief that the screen hadn’t magically changed to make her look like a freaking idiot. The no service message was still displayed clearly on the screen and she waved it in front of his face. “Ha, funny man. I’m not getting any service, so if you have another idea, I’m all for it.”

“Come on. Let’s get you out of here.” He held out a hand for her to take.

“Appreciate it.” Meghan ignored the hand, shut her car off and killed the lights. She grabbed her purse and her backpack as she climbed out, bringing her body into close contact with his towering form. Rarely did Meghan ever feel short or intimidated, tending to carry the disposition of a chihuahua who thought himself an attack dog. Except with Spencer. He made her feel every lacking inch of her five-foot stature.

Top Five Drinking Establishments by Elizabeth Coldwell – Guest Blog

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Elizabeth Coldwell, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day to talk about her newest book The Leprechaun Next Door.

Top Five Drinking Establishments

Since Johnny the leprechaun in The Leprechaun Next Door works as a bartender, I thought I’d bring you my top five most memorable places to drink, past and present:

1) De Zotte, Amsterdam

An Amsterdam institution for drinkers who enjoy Belgian beer. I adored this place because it’s the home of the Trappist Cheese Tart, a combination of cheese, onions, tomatoes and pastry which has gone through more reinventions than Madonna in the years I’ve been eating it, but which is always delicious however it’s served.

2) Chumleys, New York

Chumleys was a classic New York speakeasy during Prohibition, famous for having a secret entrance that was almost impossible to find. Because of its location at 86 Barrow Street, it was claimed this was where the phrase ‘to be 86ed’ – thrown out or refused service – originated. The bar closed down after a fire and due to resident objections only reopened a couple of years ago in a much more upscale form. The several times I visited, I loved its cozy atmosphere, excellent jukebox and the owner’s Labradors, who were so fat and sleek they looked more like a pair of seals.

3) Le Petite Taverne, Paris

Another establishment which was also apparently destroyed by fire (I swear, I may have researched arson for a book I wrote, but none of this is anything to do with me…). There was something deliciously seedy about the place, they played classic rock music, which is always a plus for me, but I remember it most because it’s where I was chatted up by a little person. Unfortunately for him, I was with someone at the time (and I’m still with that person, thirty years later).

4) The Anchor, Digbeth, Birmingham
This version was as popular as buy viagra generic treatment. Kamagra Tablets Online With Various Benefits Kamagra tablets online added quality value in the treatment as it offers many benefits to the tadalafil generic india patients. The age could be anywhere between supplementprofessors.com viagra sales france 40-50. Erectile Dysfunction, also called best price for tadalafil impotence, is often linked to abuse and neglect of the children, as well.
Another place that just has a vibe, this is one of any number of good pubs in and around Birmingham. However, it stands out for me because whenever my fellow London Millers and I visit before or after a Rotherham United game, we always seem to get talking with people. I remember once having a discussion in the ladies’ room with a woman who’d managed to turn her daughter’s white beautician coat pink in the wash – it’s not the kind of conversation you usually have with a random stranger, but in the Anchor, it happens.

5) The Wanstead Tap, London

Kind of my local, though by no means the pub closest to my house, the Wanstead Tap is a bar cum beer shop cum events space built into a railway arch. It stages a lot of book readings in conjunction with the much-loved Newham Bookshop, as well as music performances and film screenings. More importantly, you can get a good pint of locally brewed craft beer – and if you prefer wine, there’s the excellent Burgess and Hall wine bar next door. Happy days all round!

Happiness might be waiting at the end of the rainbow, but will it come with a price?

Devon’s down on his luck—he’s lost his job and discovered his boyfriend is cheating on him. His neighbor, Johnny, is not only cute, he also has a big secret: he’s a leprechaun with a pot of gold… and the ability to grant wishes.
Can Devon wish his way out of the hole he’s found himself in? He’d like a new job, some revenge on his lying ex, and maybe even love. Johnny can give him what he wants, but it won’t come for free… or in the ways Devon expects. Can he trust a sexy leprechaun to help him make a new start and wish himself into the arms of the man of his dreams?

About the Author: I am Rotherham’s foremost (okay, only) writer of quality erotica and erotic romance. Though I’m now based in London, family and football take me back North on a regular basis. Indeed, if you’re ever at a Rotherham United match (I know, what are the chances?) and you spot a small blonde with a large ‘London Millers’ flag, that’ll be me. Originally from South Yorkshire, Elizabeth Coldwell has been making up stories for as long as she can remember, only now she gets to people them with hot men. When she’s not got her nose in a book, she’s reviewing or trying to stop one or both of her cats from walking over her keyboard. She spends her time following her home town football team and baking the best brownies in East London.

Syncopation by Jodi Payne and BA Tortuga – Spotlight

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Jodi Payne and BA Tortuga who are celebrating today’s release of Syncopation.

Top Five Things We Cook

BA’s Top Five

Lord have mercy. I’m a little bit of a food whore, which surprises no one at all.

I love to make dinner rolls. My recipe is Moma Sue’s recipe who got it from Granny Key who got it from Gaga… (Cool random wonder — Jodi gave me the pan I use to cook rolls. *grins*)

Let’s see…

I love making potato soup. My potato soup is the one recipe my culinary school son hasn’t changed when he grew up and moved away. He loves it, my wife loves it, my moma loves it. 😀 (the secret? Ground mustard.)

I love cooking a turkey. I’m incredibly good at it. And trust me, I’ve cooked hundreds. Salt, pepper, oil, an onion and some lemons up the turkey butt and it’s perfect. I can’t roast a chicken for love or money, but I can make a turkey my bitch.

Cornbread has to go on the list. I have had so many people ask for the recipe, but it’s something that you make by sight — sometimes it needs cream, sometimes more buttermilk or a bonus egg. Cornbread talks to me and tells me what it needs and I give it up.

Lastly, but never least-ly. Chili. I am a Texan. I make a friggin’ stunning pot of chili, y’all. No, you can’t have the recipe. My son doesn’t even have the recipe. Making chili is a little like going to church. Your prayer is private, but you can celebrate it with all your people.

Jodi’s Top 5

I am much better baker than I am a cook so I’ll give you a little of both.

Banana bread. I get requests for this all the time. I love to make it on a cold winter day as an excuse to use the oven and warm up the house. I love it, my family loves it, and it’s the easiest thing in the world to make. (Hint: Joy of Cooking, the really old one with the broken spine that was your grandmother’s.)

Spaghetti sauce. A year round favorite, I make what I call “garbage sauce” out of whatever veggies are wilting in the fridge. Mushrooms, broccoli, zucchini, onions, peppers, garlic, beans, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, basil (mmm basil), whatever. Anything you can throw in a pan and saute or puree and throw into a sauce works. Sometimes it’s tomato-based, sometimes wine or olive oil. Mmm sauce.

Brisket. Now hold on… I say this and BA shoots me a look because everyone knows that Texans make a mean brisket. Well, my wife is Jewish, and Jews make a mean brisket too, but it’s not at all, in any way, similar to the Texans. It’s more like a pot roast, done low and slow in the oven (or crockpot) with root veggies and beef broth. And then I make a gravy. Mmmm.

A selection of right here buy cialis online mixed flavours will be sent in every order. Moreover, to suit the different requirements of the viagra buy online woman. You have to exercise it 45 minutes before cialis no prescription uk sex. Thus, you also cheapest cialis without prescription lead a joyful lovely coupling life. Roasted cauliflower. I don’t know, it’s not hard, but it’s one of my favorite things ever. Olive oil, salt & pepper, roasted until brown. OMG I can sit and eat it like popcorn.

My grandmother’s brownies. Known in my family as “Gammy’s Brownies”, these things are dense and fudgy and amazing. They are not for people who like crunchy edges or nuts or anything like that. They are soft and chocolatey perfection. (Unless you’re making them in a strange-to-you pan in a strange-to-you kitchen in New Mexico at altitude for the first time… then they’re just okay. Next time they’ll be better!)

Colt Boudreaux was raised in the Louisiana bayou and is gifted with a talent steeped in the rich and soulful New Orleans blues tradition. He makes a living as a session musician, playing guitar for anyone who needs him. When his manager sends him to New York, the Cajun is as beguiled as he is baffled by the energy of the city—and just as charmed by Kyle Alexander.

Kyle is a successful classically trained ballet dancer, choreographer, and native New Yorker whose unbridled talent defies convention, and whose rebel spirit favors ink, shuns the orchestra, and is every bit as unique as Kyle himself.

They find a connection right away that inspires rhythm and movement, mood and music, both in and out of the bedroom. It’s not long before they’re as obsessed with each other as they are with their art, and they decide to work together on an improvisational piece for Kyle’s upcoming solo exhibition.

But Kyle is focused, and Colt is free-spirited. Colt’s work ebbs and flows with inspiration, and Kyle’s is rehearsed. Kyle is social and sophisticated, and Colt… isn’t. When their talents weave together, it’s magical, but will their differences destroy it all?

About the Authors: Jodi Payne takes herself way too seriously and has been known to randomly break out in song. Her men are imperfect but genuine, stubborn but likable, often kinky, and frequently their own worst enemies. They are characters you can’t help but fall in love with while they stumble along the path to their happily ever after. For those looking to get on her good side, Jodi’s addictions include nonfat lattes, Malbec and tequila any way you pour it.

BA Tortuga: Texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy’s Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her basset hounds and her beloved wife, texting her sisters, and eating Mexican food. When she’s not doing that, she’s writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting and surfing Pinterest in the name of research. BA’s personal saviors include her wife, Julia Talbot, her best friend, Sean Michael, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee.

Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to hard-core cowboys to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which was raised in Northeast Texas, but has heard the call of the high desert and lives in the Sandias. With books ranging from hard-hitting GLBT romance, to fiery menages, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head.

Enjoy an Excerpt

In a vision, Aidan had watched her fall, disappearing through a fissure in the rock as the ground gave way beneath her, her screams reverberating through his mind like the tumbling roar of an avalanche.

Although most people would’ve dismissed it as a dream, he knew the terrifying vision for what it was: a portent of a future event, which was not uncommon among his kind. Therefore, she hadn’t fallen—yet. The trouble was he didn’t know whether he was supposed to prevent the accident or rescue her after she fell.

He’d spent the last week flying over the cliffs, his keen eyes searching the jumbled boulders for any sign that she’d ever been there. Thus far, he’d found nothing. No trace of any life aside from the cliff-dwelling condors and the assorted rodents that were widespread in the remote mountains of Rhylos.

But the vision… He’d seen it four times now. This was the right place. He was certain of it. More certain, perhaps, than he’d ever been of anything.

He skimmed over the plateau before swooping down over the edge of the cliffs—jagged rock fit only as a nesting place for the huge condors, which had been named for an extinct Terran species. Some said they looked similar, and, having seen pictures, he agreed. However, these birds were even larger than the original condors had been, and they defended their nests with a ferocity few avian species could match.

His vision had been maddeningly vague. He should’ve at least known why she was there. Was she studying the condors? Or was she simply trying to find their nests in order to steal the eggs? He couldn’t think of any other reasons why anyone would venture so far from civilization to this, one of the few uninhabited regions of the planet. Neither of those reasons seemed important enough to warrant a vision. Visions came when they wished; he had no control over their timing or their topics. The only thing he could control was the wind, enabling him to don a pair of wings and create updrafts strong enough to carry him aloft.

Only Valkyrie, the Avian clone, knew of his flights. Val would’ve hidden his own talent if he’d been able to remove his wings, but his were as much a part of him as his other limbs. No genetic manipulations could undo what had already been done to him.

As Aidan flew back up the cliff face, a flash of light on the plateau caught his eye—the effect of sunlight on metal. Something was moving down there. Something he’d only seen because of his vantage point high in the sky.

And there she is…

How he’d missed her before he couldn’t imagine, especially on the open mountainside, unless it wasn’t quite as open as it appeared. As she climbed up the edge of the plateau as though ascending a staircase, the air crackled around him like a thousand tiny lightning bolts. The moment had come.

He flew lower, hovering effortlessly, letting the wind do the work while he studied her approach. A backpack and other accoutrements were strapped to her upper body. Everything she wore—from her wide-brimmed hat, leather jacket, and khaki trousers, down to a pair of dusty boots suitable for climbing—was the same color as the rocks, causing her to blend in with her surroundings in a manner that seemed strangely covert.

A visual sweep of the plain revealed no speeder or other conveyance nearby. Had she hiked into the wilderness?
When she looked up, his eyes met hers—huge, expressive, and brown—with an impact that nearly caused him to fall out of the sky.

In the split second before he shouted a warning, she slipped from view, leaving nothing behind beyond a puff of dust that feathered away to nothingness even as he plummeted toward her, his heart pounding like a drum. He chastised himself as he flew; he’d assumed he was there to save her when, in all probability, he’d actually been the cause of her misstep.

A condor’s harsh cry made him alter his route from the plateau where she’d disappeared down to the opening in the cliff face and the cavern into which she had undoubtedly fallen. He soared through the opening just as he’d seen the condors do. Unfortunately, he’d only come prepared to rescue her, carrying a knife, a length of rope, a sling made of leather straps and carabiners, and a comlink. He hadn’t counted on having to get past an angry condor with murderous talons and a razor-sharp beak.

Correction. Make that two condors and a nest full of eggs. At least he assumed there were eggs in the nest. He couldn’t see for sure, although given the female’s protective stance, he deemed it a safe bet. “Son of a bitch.

Fortunately, the female seemed disinclined to move from her position on the nest. The male, however, was already advancing on the woman’s crumpled body. Against the far wall of the cave below the crack in the plateau, she lay unmoving amid the rubble that had fallen with her. A soft moan told him she still lived.

No doubt the condor, which was easily twice her size, intended to change that.

Focusing his attention on the huge bird, he created a gust of wind with a sweep of his arm, sending the condor fluttering to the side of the cave where his nest and mate were situated between two upright slabs of rock.

Undaunted and angrier than ever, the condor hissed and began stalking toward him. Aidan really didn’t like the idea of killing or even injuring the bird, but he might not have a choice. Taking advantage of the bird’s position, which was now between him and the mouth of the cave, he created another gust that sent the bird flapping out into the open air.

One glance was enough to inform him that this woman was quite small. Val could’ve carried her easily. Never having flown with more than his own weight, Aidan wasn’t sure he was up to the task. His own physical strength wasn’t the only factor. The wings and their harness were sturdy but not unbreakable. Not for the first time, he wished his wings were a part of him the way Val’s were, although when it came to sitting and sleeping, wings large enough to enable a man to fly tended to get in the way.

Upon reaching her side, he recoiled immediately when he spotted what he took to be a snake but was actually a leather bullwhip.

He almost laughed aloud. “Who do you think you are? Indiana Jones?”
