On leave of absence from the police force and desperate to resolve the intense anger inside him, Ethan James escapes to the Shenandoah Mountains…alone.

During one of the worst storms to hit the area in years, he’s surprised when he opens the door to find Shanay Gold, an old friend, and sometime submissive lover, dripping wet and looking sexy as hell. So sexy, he has to keep reminding himself he’s kept her at arms-length because of the future she wants. A future he can’t give her.

When lightning sparks an old flame, desires blaze to life, and Shanay and Ethan are left with little choice but to roll with passion’s Wild Thunder.

Can best friends make the best sex? It seems they can!

Growing up, their parents were great friends which threw them together at every opportunity. As they got older and their hormones began to swirl they started doing considerably more than playing at the park on bicycles and they swapped the treehouse for the bed!

I enjoyed how this story threw me into the moment, a wild night, a storm, a woman frantic to get to the man she loved but who was living in the mountains enduring self imposed isolation after major problems at work. There wasn’t a big information dump in the first chapter, I just knew what was happening and was plunged into the icy scene, therefore I kept turning those pages. My favourite sort of opening.

When Shannay reached Ethan it is of course a more complex twist of emotions, with another woman involved and Shannay not daring to reveal her true feelings.  The tension heats up that cabin enough to melt an iceberg.

I liked Shannay and Ethan’s dialogue a lot, they really bounced off each other, and then when it got to the sex, phew, there was some serious bouncing. Well written and fast paced, Wild Thunder is a steamy short read that packs a punch with the raunch.

My only complaint is the length — when it ended I was looking for more, in fact I thought I had a few pages missing. I wanted to know what Ethan was going to do next and would have enjoyed living out those scenes.

All in all a good, quick coffee time read, with characters who are engaging and have a depth about them in a limited word count. I would definitely have read a full length novel about these two.
