Reviewed by FernIn the hills above the castle are caves where, rumor has it, “things” are done to men that leave common soldiers glazed with pleasure. A good king should not even think about such things. If he was caught in the caves, he could lose his crown, if not his life. But to deny forever what he is could cost him his sanity. The night the king visits the caves will either be a night of ecstasy, or a night of doom. It might also be the night he finds the other half of his soul.
The king has wants – needs – that can’t be met in his court. Just outside of his town, there are caves where the soldiers whisper of decadent things – kinky and naughty acts – are performed. With some liquid courage, the kind steals away one night and has a single, blissful night of submission and freedom. The following morning he rises, certain the previous night was some erotic, lovely dream, never to be reality.
I really enjoyed the writing style of this book. Set in the first person it’s like a snapshot into another world, and a man’s deepest, darkest fantasies. Tastefully written it is a strongly Dom/sub story not for the faint of heart. Despite the kink, there is a real connection between these men, and I was really delighted by the twist at the end. From start to finish I found this a warm, deeply emotional read with just enough spice to keep my mouth watering. A wonderful tale set in a world of kings and castles, dungeons and hidden caves. Absolutely delightful.
