Outed at his conservative law firm, attorney Chance Evans had two choices: sue his former employer for discrimination or settle out of court. Unwilling to drag his personal life through a drawn out legal battle, Chance chose to give up his high stress life and walk away from the courtroom. When his best friend, Lacey Sherwood, offered him a second chance at a brand new career as a pastry chef at her catering business, Chance didn’t look back.

Alex Farrell started his career at the very same law firm as Chance. Newly divorced, he’s looking for a fresh start. When Lacey introduces Chance and Alex, things heat up. Will their ending be bitter or sweet?

Chance quit his job as a lawyer and decided to become a pastry chef and work with his best friend in her catering company. Making delicious delicacies for weddings might not be the most glamorous thing ever, but Chance loves it. When he’s set up on a blind date with Alex, another lawyer, Chance initially isn’t too sure, but as he gets to know Alex this might just be the best thing that’s ever happened to him.

I found this to be a fun, light, super quick read. While I personally thought the start was a little bogged down with a massive amount of backstory being info-dumped, it does help explain Chance’s character and show the reader his attraction to Alex. In such an incredibly short story though, I couldn’t help but feel like there just wasn’t really time to do justice to both a proper setting up of a back-story, and some sizzling hot sex with the start of the relationship between the two men. While I think the author did a good job of balancing these two important factors in any story, I would have vastly preferred a much shorter “getting to know you” stage and a bit more sex and relationship working. Other readers might feel though that this is a far better balance than I did.

I really enjoyed the characters, I felt Chance and Alex were interesting people and just not cardboard cut outs. I also loved the secondary characters – Mikey and Lacey. There were parts of the story – particularly a huge amount of time that got jumped toward the end – where I would have loved just a little more time for the story to have been explored. I feel this really was something the author missed out on and filling the gaps was a little overlooked to my mind. But I loved the twist at the end and would have loved more description.

With fun, interesting characters and some lovely steamy M/M sex this is a great short story and a super fast read. I liked the author’s voice and will absolutely try more books by this author.
