Her rescue by the U.S. cavalry comes when she’s giving birth, and her joy at being set free is ruined by losing her son. Faced with the loss of all her loved ones, she turns to the only person who understands her plight, U.S. cavalry scout, Jacob Wells.
Jacob has led a difficult life, born of a Comanche mother and a cavalry soldier. He serves as a cavalry scout with bravery and integrity, wanting to follow in his father’s footsteps. But when a commission in the Army is within his grasp, he learns there is something more important than ambition—his growing love for Ruth.
Discouraged and grieving, Ruth turns Jacob away to start a new life in the East. She has an important lesson to learn before she can love again—the lesson of forgiveness. Can Ruth forgive all the pain and sorrow she’s suffered and open her heart to Jacob and his forever-after kind of love?
Can one forgive after suffering so much heartache? Ruth MacDonald lost her family and was later held captive by the Comanche tribe for two years. Later she was deceived by those she thought had her best interest at heart. She knows heartache very well.
This is a short novel but covers a lot. This story is about forgiveness, using caution when wanting to love and trust again but it also touches on a tough topic. Ruth is judged because she was held captive and is pregnant by a warrior of the Comanche tribe. Jacob Wells is a U.S. Cavalry scout that is looked upon as being beneath the other Army member’s because of his mixed race. Both had something in common and grew from that. They couldn’t help how they were formed or being held captive but they didn’t let that make them bitter. Their time spent together and the growth of their relationship help lighten the heaviness of the story. Their relationship brought a refreshing and sweet romance to the story.
Ruth is a strong character that held up under tremendous pressure. With her shattered heart from a horrific past event she opens up to trust only to be deceived. I did think Ruth was a little harsh at the end of the book. Even though she was hurt she didn’t have compassion for Nellie’s situation. All of the characters had it tough. Nellie and Captain Ezekiel O’Connor weren’t exempt. Their heart’s desire to have children only to be disappointed time after time tugged at my heart. Reading their story made me think about what I would do in either of the women’s circumstances.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I enjoyed the storyline and the two main characters Ruth and Jacob. I admire both for their strength and good will. I enjoyed reading their story and wanted their lives to have a happy ending. This is a well developed plot that not only hooked me but it drew me in to want to read book two in the series.
I LOVED LOVED THIS BOOK!
Historicals have always fed my soul. Hebby Roman’s new book Ruth, The Rescued Bride is no-exception . She truly engulfed every emotion with this book.
Jacob a half-breed, whose mom was Comanche and dad a soldier, is now a scout for the army stationed at Fort Concho. Riding into a raid against the Comanche has always been rough, as he still doesn’t know which side he truly belongs. But this raid will be different, he’s about to rescue a young captive who will change his life forever.
Ruth’s Family was all slaughtered by the Comanche, ranch burned down, and then she was taken captive.
She’s now running for her life with her Comanche husband , Buffalo Heart, as the soldiers raid their camp, but her running is short lived as she goes into labor.
When she awakens, she is in a home and surroundings unfamiliar to her. All she remembers is giving birth alone before she passed out.
This was truly a very well written book that will leave you believing in miracles, true love, and forgiveness toward those who have wronged others.

My review from when I read this book…☆☆☆☆☆
Hebby Roman is my favorite new author on my go to authors list for this year. This book just blew me away. It pulled me in in the first few pages by starting with Ruth going into labor at the worst time possible. I just had to know what was going to happen next. As far as I’m concerned all that consider themself a Christian need to read this book to be reminded of how as a Christian we are expected to give forgiveness to those who wrong us no matter the circumstances. Not to mention that we have to learn to forgive ourselves before we can truly be happy in our lives. A short fast read that I did not want to end. I love a good Historical Western Romance novel and this one had all my favorites things in a HWR, Indians, Half-breeds, history lessons, intrigue, a sweet romance, life lessons and relations between indians and early settlers. A must read that I could not give enough stars and it will forever be in my heart! I choose not to go into the story line because everyone just needs to read this book!
Every once and awhile you read a author that you really like and then you read a book by same author and are blown away by what you just read. Hebby Roman is just that Author!!
Her latest book Ruth: The Rescued Bride is just that book!! This book was phenomenal and so much more than just a Romance. It was a inspirational book with a message just as strong as the Good Lord’s Bible.
Can Ruth give forgiveness to the ones that so badly hurt her??? Can Ruth most importantly forgive and let go of the guilt she has unjustly put upon herself so that she can be free to love Jacob?? Jacob loves Ruth oh so much and knows firsthand what cruelty can be committed against a person. Jacob wants so much to be the man to love the hurt from Ruth!! Will Ruth let Jacob be that man?? You must read this truly WONDERFUL AMAZING book to find out!!!
Thank you for your comment, Glenda.
This book held my interest from start to finish. A story of life for youg woman who had been a captive. Life was not easy back then for women even harder for a returning captive. You will love the book.
Yvonne, I appreciate you commenting!
Thank you for reviewing my book. I appreciate it.
I love reading historical romances. Hebby Roman has started her trilogy with a bang. Ruth McDonald was held captive by the Comanche for two years, history tells us that people held captives weren’t treated well during their captivity, and when back in white society still weren’t treated nice. This story had some twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting, and at times was concerned how everything was going to work out. By the end of the story, I had gone through lots of emotion, wondering if Ruth would ever be happy again.
