As their bond grows and she begins to fall hard for him, they make plans to meet face-to-face.
With love on the line, will AJ decide to forgive him when he confesses to being part of the set-up?
After a nasty break up all AJ wants to do is wallow and allow her broken heart to mend. When her two best friends insist on a night out though, AJ finally capitulates and joins them, only to panic at the thought of even talking to some of the hunky men. Needing a massive boost in her confidence, AJ decides to give Flirt Chat – and Mathias – a go. Surely talking to a guy over the phone can’t get complicated?
I found this to be an interesting and fun short story. I found the premise interesting – a kind of “try before you buy” chat-style dating set-up. In many ways it seemed like a good idea – especially how the two people can communicate and sound each other out before actually meeting up, but I wasn’t overly convinced at the way which AJ was so readily won over. Considering the night before she’d all but bolted and been ill over simply talking face-to-face with a handsome man I found it a little unrealistic that talking to a man (with a deep, sexy voice) over the phone would be any less panic-inducing. After dis-connecting my brain however, I just relaxed back and enjoyed the ride, finding the story far more enjoyable after this.
I was a little disappointed that the conflict aspect of the story felt over-done to my tastes. While understandable it was a little too close to clichéd for me to enjoy it. When AJ, her friends and Mathias all talked through the situation though I was glad it got resolved fairly quickly. I did love, however, watching the slow, gradual progression of Mathias and AJ’s relationship blossom. Their talks and extensive “getting to know you” period helped me really feel and believe in the solidness of their relationship and the strength of their foundation. Readers looking for a hot and heavy, intensely erotic story might be disappointed that while there’s a bit of naughty phone sex, the only actual consummation between AJ and Mathias is right at the end of the story.
Light and interesting, this is a good short story with only a few hiccups for me, personally. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and characters and will be keeping an eye out for potential future stories revolving around AJ’s two best friends.
