Hockey goalie Tarah ‘TJ’ Elliot is too busy stopping pucks to go looking for love. When her friend Natalie sets her up through Madame Eve’s 1 Night Stand service, she grudgingly agrees to go. Her ultimate fantasy comes true when Scott Alarid, one of the top scorers in the league, shows up at her hotel room. Hockey player TJ can’t possibly spend a night with him, but Tarah certainly can.

Scott’s tired of dealing with women who only like him for his all-star status. After his teammates arrange a date for him using the 1NS website, he’s delighted to find a woman who doesn’t know a thing about the sport. But, will the truth force them to put their relationship on ice?

Who knew hockey could be so sensual?

Tarah “TJ” Elliot lives her life surrounded by men, yet can’t seem to meet one. As a professional hockey player, she is unfortunately seen as one of the guys, so finding a romantic connection is difficult. That’s when TJ’s good friend sets her up with Madame Eve’s 1Night Stand service.

Scott Alarid is a big named hockey star and captain of his team. Despite professional success, what he’s really looking for is a woman who wants him for him, and not because he’s a sports figure. His last relationship ended badly, so he’s not actively looking to get into another. When his buddies set him up with a date, however, he reluctantly agrees to go, if for no other reason than to avoid hurting an innocent woman who’d otherwise be stood up.

There were many things I liked about this short tale, not the least of which was the sexual connection the two shared. They were instantly compatible and each had a mutual attraction and enjoyment of the other.

The writing was clear and easy to read, both points of view represented and the dialogue was well attributed.

The one main negative I’d have is perhaps the order of things. The couple was together for only a few minutes before their physical relationship began, but there wasn’t much of a reason for that in Scott’s eyes. Tarah admired Scott, having followed him closely as an athlete, and was obviously physically attracted to him, but Scott knew nothing of Tarah. Before dinner had even arrived (less than 40 minutes according to the story) the two had sex and he was convinced Tarah was the woman for him. It seemed the only criteria for his feeling was her sexual ability and the fact that she didn’t know he was a hockey player. Later on, the two were able to talk and get to know each other better, and at that point the hope for a future made more sense, but the speed at which Scott determined Tarah was an ideal mate seemed a little quick.

That negative aside, the rest of the story was very enjoyable. Not knowing anything about hockey myself, I was able to follow the necessary details about the game that contributed to the book and could appreciate the relationship the two shared in the sport on top of their personal relationship. If you’re looking for a tale about finding that right person at the right time, Goalie Interference, and the 1Night Stand Series are great options!
