Lucky’s character development was handled nicely. To be honest with you, I wasn’t the biggest fan of this character when I first met her. She had a few personality quirks that happen to be pet peeves of mine, so it took me a while to warm up to her sometimes pretty blunt point of view. My opinion of her did become much more positive as I got to know her better and she began to grow as a person, though. It was rewarding to see how she changed and how my response to her as a reader evolved as a result of that.
I found it confusing to keep track of all of the minor characters in this story. Lucky had a complicated work life that took up a lot of her attention. As interesting as I found the case she was researching, I kept mixing up the names and backstories of all of the people involved in it. It would have been nice to focus on a smaller number of clients during the course of this story so I could spend more time thinking about how Lucky spent the rest of her time.
The chemistry between Lucky and Caroline couldn’t have been better. They were suited well for each other in bed in every possible way. As unsure as I was in the beginning about whether or not their fling could ever turn into something more than that, I still kept hoping that they’d find a way to keep meeting up and maybe even find room in their lives for more than just a casual arrangement.
Caroline’s Heart should be read by fans of erotica and mysteries alike.
