For half-fey, half-Royal vampire Ava Gordano, keeping everyone at arm’s length has been the only way to protect them. With a vengeful enemy hunting her down, she can’t afford to bring anyone into her world, so she is none too pleased when she awakens in a cell along with Marc, a human who stirs feelings she both fears and longs for.
Marc has no idea what he’s getting himself into, but one thing’s for certain—Ava is in danger. While he pushes her to reunite with her estranged family, the desire between them is far too hot and the emotions binding them far too great for either of them to ignore. They may come from two different worlds, but Marc will march through hell and back in order to protect and claim Ava as his own.
Enter a world where vampires are split into four categories, each with their own abilities. Where shifters go through the Change in a number of weeks, not instantaneously. This is the world where we meet Ava and Marc. It starts off simple enough, but we soon get into a story that also has mystery and intrigue too. Ava was left all alone after she left her family, thinking she was doing the right thing. They have searched for her for many years, but so have others.
The attraction between Marc and Ava has been bubbling between them since Marc first entered the place where Ava worked. Once he gets involved in her world, that attraction is on fire! They only have a couple of steamy moments before the story takes over, but there is a constant pull between them.
Ava’s brothers are the rest of the series (I’m presuming for reasons given in the story), and they are each different from the others, and interesting in their own ways.
There were no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading, and the pace was smooth. You are definitely left with more questions than answers, needing the next book in the series.
For a quick-witted story with twists and turns of the paranormal sort, then I can definitely recommend this book.
