Stevie is struggling in the lead up to Christmas, trying to make it as special and normal for her young son, Mika as possible. Since her bastard ex left them and cleaned them out life has been incredibly difficult but she’s doing her best. When her car is unexpectedly towed Deputy Kaden Hunter is called out and is astonished at how much Stevie and Mika tug on his heart. Can Kaden help make Mika’s secret wish come true?
I really enjoyed this realistic and heart-warming Christmas story. I found myself really empathizing with Stevie and respecting her strength and determination. Her instinct and determination to do the best by her son – and stand up for herself was really pleasing to read. I was impressed that she didn’t even consider giving an inch to her asshole ex and while her reluctance to take assistance from Kaden was something I could relate to, I was also pleased to find Stevie wasn’t going to let her pride stop herself from accepting his help and genuine offers of assistance – particularly in relation to Mika.
Both Stevie and Kaden each have a past and are wonderfully complicated characters. I enjoyed the pace of this story – which let them both explore and get to know each other at a slower pace, and I thoroughly enjoyed peeling back the layers on each of their histories. Considering both Stevie and Kaden’s situation I was pleased that they didn’t become sexually intimate until right toward the end of the story. Despite the heat level of the story this slowness in the sexual department certainly made a lot more sense to me and fitted better with the story. When they were intimate I found it delightfully written and very steamy and satisfying.
With plenty of Christmas cheer and a whole bunch of reality, this wonderful, warm-hearted and character-driven story was a pleasure to read and one I know I’ll enjoy again in the future.
